After the elections, Patrickwentto the former Prime Minister'shouse.When he asked if ne lived there, the policeman on dutytoldhim that si nce his defeat,the ex-Prime Minister had gone abroad.On the following day, Patri ck wentto thehouse again. The same policeman was just walking slowly past thee ntrance,when Patrickasked the same question. Though a little suspicious thistime, the policeman gave him the same answer.The dayafter, Patrick went to the house once moreand askedexactly the samequestion.This time, thepolicemanlost his temper.'I told you yesterdayandtheday before yesterday,'he shouted,'Mr.Lane was defeated in theelections.
