D.Boldness can be gained little by little.

(1)What is the first paragraph mainly about?(2)What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?(3)What does the first paragraph mainly talk about?
真题体验(2023·新高考全国Ⅰ卷D)On March 7, 1907, the English statistician Francis Galton published a paper which illustrated what has come to be known as the “wisdom of crowds” effect. The experiment of estimation he conducted showed that in some cases, the average of a large number of independent estimates could be quite accurate. This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren't always the same. Some people will tend to overestimate, and some to underestimate. When enough of these errors are averaged together, they cancel each other out, resulting in a more accurate estimate. If people are similar and tend to make the same errors, then their errors won't cancel each other out.In more technical terms, the wisdom of crowds requires that people's estimates be independent. If for whatever reasons, people's errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down. But a new study led by Joaquin Navajas offered an interesting twist (转折) on this classic phenomenon. The key finding of the study was that when crowds were further divided into smaller groups that were allowed to have a discussion, the averages from these groups were more accurate than those from an equal number ofindependent individuals. For instance, the average obtained from the estimates of four discussion groups of five was significantly more accurate than the average obtained from 20 independent individuals. In a follow-up study with 100 university students, the researchers tried to get a better sense of what the group members actually did in their discussion.Did they tend to go with those most confident about their estimates? Did they follow those least willing to change their minds? This happened some of the time, but it wasn't the dominant response. Most frequently, the groups reported that they “shared arguments and reasoned together”.Somehow, these arguments and reasoning resulted in a global reduction in error.Although the studies led by Navajas have limitations and many questions remain the potential implications for group discussion and decision-making are enormous.32.What is Paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?A.The methods of estimation.B.The underlying logic of the effect.C.The causes of people's errors.D.The design of Galton's experiment.【解题示范】第一步:阅读题干,找出关键词:Paragraph 2,快速将解题信息定位到文章的第二段;第二步:根据段落的内容,分析选项,判断概括准确的选项:根据“This effect capitalizes on the fact that when people make errors, those errors aren't always the same. If for whatever reasons, people's errors become correlated or dependent, the accuracy of the estimate will go down.(这种效应利用了这样一个事实,即当人们犯错误时,这些错误并不总是相同的。

根据上段中“Emoji can help communication feel friendlier(表情符号有助于使交流让人觉得更友好)”和后句“and emoji can contribute directly to that positive outcome(并且表情符号可以直接促成 这种积极的结果)”可知,这里陈述表达友好的表情符号能给工作场所带 来的好处。所以选项“Studies show that friendlier communication leads to a happier workplace(研究表明,更友好的沟通会带来更快乐的工作场所)” 承上启下,符合语境。

一般题干中经常会出现六个动词:infer(推断),indicate(象征,暗示),imply(暗示),suggest(暗示),conclude(得出结论,推断出)和assume(假定,设想)。
(1)It can be inferred/concluded from the text that .(2)What can we infer/learn from...?(3)We can learn from the passage that .(4)The passage/story...indicates/suggests/implies that .

these lemurs were spending most time on the ground and had an incredibly diverse diet.He wondered whether habitat reduction and limited food resource availability were driving them move to the the ground each month. But the findings showed some interesting differences.“As habitats are degraded and the climate worsens, primates that are flexible enough to adapt because of their diverse diets or live in larger groups may be more likely to shift to life on the ground,” Eppley says.“However, other species that rely on fruit diets or live in small groups are less adaptable and are less willing to leave the tree. For these species,we will still need to enforce fast and effective conservation strategies to ensure their survival.”Although moving to the ground has some advantages in certain 篇章结构题A(2015·泰安检测)It’s a safe bet that a robot made your car and your computer.Pretty soon, they could be making your bed and breakfast too.Increasingly, engineers are saying that robots are going to move out of research departments and into your panies including Sony and General Electric are working on designs for small robots.Products like the Roomba,a robot that can clean floors, are flying off the shelves. What’s behind this new robot revolution? It’s partly a matter of technology.Devices that can recognize and respond to a human voice have been developed so people can find robots with such function in the market. There are now a few different ways for robots to move around. They can walk, crawl(爬行) or ride on wheels.Robots are being made smaller and smaller. They are also becoming more and more energy-efficient.A bigger part of the story is on the demand side. From the day the television remote control was invented, people around the world have searched for new ways to be lazy.Take into consideration that more and more people can afford robots, and the time seems ripe to introduce robots to the average family. To be sure, robots that walk on two legs and talk like people are still a long way off. However, robots that do basic housework such as cleaning or gardening are sure to come out soon. One thing is certain—when these robots do come into our homes,it will change things forever.【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。

BAccording to a new US study, couples who expect their children to look after them in old age should hope they have daughters because daughters are twice as attentive as sons overall. The research by Angelina Grigoryeva, from Princeton University, found that, while women provide as much care for their elderly parents as they can manage, men do as little as they can get away with and often leave it to female family members. Her analysis of the family networks of 26,000 old Americans concluded that gender(性别) is one of the most important things that decide whether or not people will actively care for their elderly parents. In a paper presented at the annual conference of the American Sociological Association in San Francisco, she concludes that simply having a sister makes men likely provide less care.Using data from the University of Michigan Health and Retirement Study,a study which has been tracking a cross-section of over-50s for the last decade, she calculated that women provide an average of 12.3 hours a month of care for elderly parents while men offer only 5.6 hours.“Sons reduce their relative care-giving efforts when they have a sister, while daughters increase theirs when they have a brother.”“This suggests that sons pass on parent care-giving responsibilities to their sisters.”In the UK,the 2011 Census showed that there are now around 6.5 million people with caring responsibilities,a figure which has risen by a tenth in a decade. But many are doing so at the risk of their health. The census showed that those who provide 50 hours or more of care a week while trying to hold down a full-time job are three times more likely to be struggling with ill health than their working counterparts who are not carers.【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。
