When it comes to writing an essay, one of the most commonly used sentence patterns is the comparison sentence. Comparison sentences are used to compare and contrast two or more things, ideas, or concepts. These sentences are useful in academic writing as they help to clarify the similarities and differences between different topics. One common comparison sentence pattern is the "X is (not) as Y as Z" pattern. This pattern is used to compare the degree or level of something to another thing. For example, "The weather today is not as hot as it was yesterday." Another common pattern is the "X is (not)more/less Y than Z" pattern. This pattern is used to compare the amount or quantity of something to another thing. For example, "I have less money than my friend."In addition to these patterns, there are many othercomparison sentence patterns that can be used in writing. Some examples include "X is similar/different to Y in that..." and "While X has A, Y has B." The key is to choose the pattern that best fits the comparison you are trying to make.Overall, comparison sentences are a useful tool in writing, as they help to clarify the similarities and differences between different topics. By using these patterns effectively, you can make your writing more clear and concise.

When it comes to writing English essays, there are two main approaches that students often use: the block method and the point-by-point method. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice between the two depends on the specific requirements of the assignment and the personal preferences of the writer. The block method, also known as the subject-by-subject method, involves discussing all the points related to one subject first, and then moving on to the next subject. This method is often used when the two subjects being compared have many different points to be discussed, and when the writer wants to emphasize the differences between the two subjects. For example, if a student is comparing and contrasting two different novels, they might choose to discuss all the aspects of one novel first, and then move on to the other novel. On the other hand, the point-by-point method, alsoknown as the alternating method, involves discussing each point related to both subjects in turn. This method is often used when the two subjects being compared have many similarities, and when the writer wants to emphasize these similarities. For example, if a student is comparing and contrasting two different countries, they might choose to discuss one specific aspect, such as culture, and then compare and contrast the culture of both countries. In terms of the structure of the essay, the block method typically results in a longer essay, as each subject is discussed in its entirety before moving on to the next subject. This can be advantageous for students who struggle with organizing their thoughts, as it allows them to focus on one subject at a time. However, the block method can also make it difficult for the reader to see the connections between the two subjects, as the discussion of each subject is separate. On the other hand, the point-by-point method typically results in a shorter essay, as the discussion of each point is integrated throughout the essay. This can beadvantageous for students who want to emphasize the connections between the two subjects, as it allows for a more integrated and cohesive discussion. However, thepoint-by-point method can also be more challenging for students to organize, as they need to keep track ofmultiple points at once.In terms of the content of the essay, the block method allows for a more in-depth discussion of each subject, as the writer can devote more space to each subject without interruptions. This can be advantageous for students who want to provide a thorough analysis of each subject. However, the block method can also make it difficult for the writer to compare and contrast the two subjects, as the discussion of each subject is separate. On the other hand, the point-by-point method allows for a more direct comparison of the two subjects, as the writer can discuss each point in relation to both subjects. This can be advantageous for students who want to emphasize the similarities and differences between the two subjects. However, the point-by-point method can also make it morechallenging for the writer to provide a detailed analysis of each subject, as they need to integrate the discussion of each point throughout the essay. In conclusion, both the block method and the point-by-point method have their own advantages and disadvantages. The choice between the two depends on the specific requirements of the assignment and the personal preferences of the writer. Ultimately, the most important thing is for the writer to choose a method that allows them to effectively compare and contrast the two subjects, and to provide a clear and cohesive analysis for the reader.。

When it comes to writing a comparative essay, there are two main approaches that can be taken: the block method and the point-by-point method. The block method involves discussing one subject in its entirety before moving on to the next. This method can be effective when the two subjects are very different or when one subject is significantly more complex than the other. For example, if you were writing a comparative essay on the American and French Revolutions, you might choose to use the block method to discuss the causes of each revolutionin one paragraph, the course of each revolution in the next paragraph, and the outcomes of each revolution in the final paragraph. The point-by-point method involves discussing each subject in turn, point by point. This method can beeffective when the two subjects are very similar or whenyou want to highlight the similarities and differences between the two subjects. For example, if you were writinga comparative essay on the works of Shakespeare and Chaucer, you might choose to use the point-by-point method todiscuss their use of language, their themes, and their characters. The best method to use for a comparative essay will depend on the specific essay topic and the writer's individual preferences. However, it is important to choosea method and stick to it throughout the essay. This will help to ensure that the essay is well-organized and easy to follow.

“more/less”以及“as… as”中的第一个“as”是副词,那“than”和“as… as”中的第二个“as”是什么词性呢?

口语中,我们可以直接说“A is more beautiful than B.”这时候,“than”可以被理解为介词,而后面接的是代词的宾格(“B”作介词“than”的宾语)。

A is more beautiful thanB is . A is beautiful.B is beautiful. A is more beautiful thanB is beautiful. A is more beautiful thanB is beautiful. => A is more beautiful than B is .

12为什么要写成“A is more beautiful than B.”呢?

1. Peter is taller than John.(彼得比约翰高。

2. This book is more interesting than that one.(这本书比那本书更有趣。

)这个例子中,主语是This book,谓语是is more interesting,比较词是than,被比较对象是that one。

3. She runs faster than her sister.(她跑得比她妹妹快。

)这个例子中,主语是She,谓语是runs faster,比较词是than,被比较对象是her sister。

- taller(更高的)- faster(更快的)- cheaper(更便宜的)- more interesting(更有趣的)2.

- tallest(最高的)- fastest(最快的)- cheapest(最便宜的)- most interesting(最有趣的)在使用比较词时,要注意形容词和副词的变化规则。

When writing a comparative essay in English, there are two primary approaches that can be employed: the point-by-point method and the block method. Each approach has its distinct characteristics and strengths, which will be discussed in detail below.Approach 1: Point-by-Point Method. In the point-by-point method, the writer compares and contrasts the two subjects or topics by discussing each point of comparison in turn. This method allows for a more parallel structure, where each aspect of one subject is immediately followed by the corresponding aspect of the other subject.# Structure:1. Introduction:Introduce the two subjects or topics to be compared.Briefly state the purpose and significance of the comparison.Outline the main points of comparison.2. Body Paragraphs:Each paragraph focuses on a single point of comparison.Discuss the first aspect of the first subject.Immediately follow with a discussion of the corresponding aspect of the second subject.Analyze the similarities and differences between the two aspects.Repeat this structure for each point of comparison.3. Conclusion:Summarize the key similarities and differences discussed in the body paragraphs.Draw a conclusion about.。

“more/less”以及“as… as”中的第一个“as”是副词,那than和“as… as”中的第二个“as”是什么词性呢?

口语中,我们可以直接说“A is more beautiful than B.”这时候,“than”可以被理解为介词,而后面接的是代词的宾格(“B”作介词“than”的宾语)。

A is more beautiful thanB is. A is beautiful.B is beautiful. A is more beautiful thanB is beautiful. A is more beautiful thanB is beautiful . >>> A is more beautiful than B is.

为什么要写成“A is more beautiful than B.”呢?

She is beautiful.I am beautiful. She is more beautiful than I am beautiful .

You like her.>>> I like her more than you like her. I like her more than you.

I like her more than you like . >>> I like her more than you do .

以下是三个TOEFL阅读文章中出现过的几个例子:∙Ichthyosaurs had a higher chance of being preserved than did terrestrial creatures because, as marine animals, they tended to live in environments less subject to erosion.∙The common kestrel nests in larger flocks than does the lesser kestrel.∙This immunity has been followed by a relaxation of the defenses, and kittiwakes do not react to predators nearly as fiercely as do ground-nesting gulls.

He is bigger than a chair.

My eyes are bigger than my eyes. A is as smart as beautiful. A is smart.A is beautiful.>>> A is as smart as A is beautiful. A is as smart as she is beautiful.

所以说,“A is as smart as beautiful.”

”我们看到“A is as smart as beautiful.”

那么“A is as stupid as beautiful.”

Competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society.

)Computers are useful.Computers are complex.>>> (However,) Computers are not as useful as complex.(这句话还可以写成:Computers are not as useful as they are complex.) Computers are not as useful as complex.Computers are (much) less useful than complex.Computers are (much) more useless than complex.

He is more of a friend than a father. He is a friend.He is a father.>>> He is more a friend than he is a father.

It is very important. It is of great importance. He is more a friend than he is a father.>>> He is more of a friend than a father.

He is as much of a friend as a father. Life’s transition from the sea to the land was perhaps as much of an evolutionary challenge as was the genesis of life.让我们逆向拆解一下这句话的“炮制”过程(重点1):Life’s transition from the sea to the land was an evolutionary challenge. The genesis of life was an evolutionary challenge.>>> Lif e’s transition from the sea to the land was as an evolutionary challenge as the genesis of life was an evolutionary challenge.加上一个程度副词“perhaps”:>>> Life’s transition from the sea to the land was perhaps as an evolutionary challenge as the genesis of life was an evolutionary challenge.因为比较的是名词属性,“as”后面加上“much of”(重点9)>>> Life’s transition from the sea to the land was perhaps as much of an evolutionary challenge as the genesis of life was an evolutionary challenge.第二个句子中重复的部分省略掉,谓语动词不省略(重点2)>>> Life’s transition from the sea to the land was perhaps as much of an evolutionary challenge as the genesis of life was.第二个句子的谓语动词倒装(重点4),最终得到我们之前看过的句子:>>> Life’s transition from the sea to the land was perhaps as much of an evolutionary challenge as was the genesis of life.
