As a non-native English speaker, I often struggle with communicating effectively in English. However, I have found that there are certain strategies that have helped me improve my language skills.Firstly, I make sure to read as much as possible in English. This includes books, articles, and even social media posts. By exposing myself to different styles of writing, I am able to expand my vocabulary and learn how to structure sentences more effectively.Secondly, I practice speaking English with native speakers whenever possible. This can be intimidating at first, but it is the best way to improve my pronunciation and learn how to use idiomatic expressions correctly. I have found that using online language exchange platforms or attending conversation groups in my community are greatways to find native speakers to practice with. Finally, I try to immerse myself in English as much as possible. This means watching TV shows and movies in English, listening to English music, and even thinking in English. By surrounding myself with the language, I am able to absorb it more naturally and improve my overall language skills.

Online Social NetworkModern people will be no stranger to online social network. Facebook, Renren and Kaixin001 are probably the most populous networks among Chinese netizen. In these networks, people interact with each other, be it a stranger or a friend, and have a lot of fun in the virtual world. This phenomenon could be a result of the fast development of the Internet and people's great interest of the virtual world. I think it is a very good new platform for people to keep in touch. But it should not be overused. Firstly, some people are addicted to it, which makes them want to get online 24 hours a day. When people spend too much time on one thing, they will naturally have not enough time for study and for work. Secondly, online social network change people's behavior of interacting with others. In virtual world, you just click the mouse and type in words instead ofhaving a face-to-face talk. This will not benefit people's long term friendship, and even harm their interpersonal relationships in real world. On Job HoppingIt seems that nowadays, very few young people are willing to stay in a job position for long, let alone for the whole life. They change jobs constantly. This results from several factors. Firstly, young people like freshthings, and it is easy for them to be fed up with old routine work. So when they stay in a position for a while, the excitement will fade out. They are quite realistic and not willing to waste time in a job they are not interested in. Thirdly, some young people are not satisfied with current salary, believing they deserve better pay. In my opinion, constant job hopping will not benefit young people in their career development. Every job has its own merits and young people can certainly learn something from it as long as they are patient and wise enough. Every job experience is valuable down the career path and young people shall be able to make the most of it. Living with Parents after GraduationWhich will you choose to deal with your accommodation problem after graduation, living with parents or renting a room on your own? Quite a number of people prefer to rent a room on their own; however, more and more people choose to live with parents. There are several reasons for that. First, because of high housing prices, most people can't afford to buy a house after graduation. What's more, with their limited incomes, the graduates feel stressed with the high housing rent and living costs. Living with parents can save them lots of money which they may spend on housing and daily expenses. Finally, many people have been accustomed to depending on their parents and they can't take care of themselves. Personally speaking, I'd rather rent a room to live my own life, though living with my parents may help save much money. I also suggest that those who are so dependent on parents should learn to be independent as early as possible. What Is More Important What Is More Important: Character or Academic Achievement? What is the criterion to judge the performance of a student? Some believe that the exam marks should be the first standard concerned. A student's first priority is to study well, and academic achievement can show the result of a student's efforts and capability. But some disagree by holding that good character should beconsidered first when talking about the performance of a student, as character shows that whether a student has correct basic moral value and proper behavior. As far as I am concerned, sound character is more important in judging a student's performance. Firstly, good exam marks can not be everything as that won't follow a student's whole life. But sound character will be the only thing that lasts for long. Secondly, if a student has very poor character, good marks will be meaningless. When the student has grown up, his academic achievement will probably be used for wrong purpose. I, therefore, believe that we should reform the education system and care more for students' character cultivation. Is It Better to Buy or Rent The price of housing has kept increasing in recent years, which causes a big headache for people living in cities.A lot of people cannot afford to own a real estate property, so they choose to rent instead of buying an apartment. This group of people does not want to bear burden of mortgage so that they opt for a practical solution. Renting an apartment makes them have a place to stay and thus they can focus on work as well as personal life. Some other people, however, believe that an apartment owned by themselves makes them feel safe and relieved, so they are willing to sacrifice some other aspects of life to borrowmoney from the bank to buy an apartment. As far as I am concerned, to buy or to rent is all aboutit will be better to rent first and wait for the good timing when the price is going down to buy.。

It is with great pleasure and a touch of nostalgia that I stand before you today to deliver my final speech at the end of this academic year. As we come to the end of this chapter in our lives, it is fitting to reflect on the journey we have undertaken and the lessons we have learned. Today, I would like to share with you my thoughts on embracing the future, a journey that we are all embarking on as we leave the confines of college.First and foremost, let us take a moment to appreciate the unique experience that college has offered us. We have spent the past few years in an environment that is both challenging and nurturing. We have been exposed to a vast array of knowledge, ideas, and perspectives that have broadened our horizons and shaped our understanding of the world. From rigorous academic pursuits to diverse social activities, college has been a melting pot where we have grown both intellectually and personally. One of the most significant lessons that college has taught us is the importance of adaptability. As students, we have had to navigate through a multitude of changes, be it the transition from high school touniversity, the diverse cultural backgrounds of our classmates, or the ever-evolving academic landscape. These experiences have equipped us with the ability to adapt to new situations, to think critically, and to problem-solve effectively. In the world outside of college, change will continue to be a constant, and our ability to adapt will be the key to our success. As we look towards the future, it is crucial to recognize the importance of lifelong learning. College has been a foundation upon which we can build our knowledge and skills, but the journey does not end here. The world is constantly evolving, and new technologies, methodologies, and ideas are emerging every day. We must remain curious and open-minded, always seeking to learn and grow. Whether it be through further education, self-study, or professional development, lifelong learning will enable us to stay relevant and competitive in the ever-changing job market. In addition to adaptability and lifelong learning, another essential quality that we have acquired during our time in college is resilience. The road to success is often fraught with obstacles and setbacks, and college has prepared us to face these challenges head-on. We have learned to pick ourselves up after failures, to persevere through difficult times, and to find strength in adversity. These qualities will serve us well as we navigate the complexities of the real world. Now, let us talk about the future. As we leave the familiar surroundings of college, we are stepping into a world filled with opportunities and uncertainties. The future is a blank canvas, and it is up to us to paint it with our own colors. Here are a few thoughts on how we can embrace this journey:1. Set clear goals: The future can be daunting, but having a clearvision of what we want to achieve will help us stay focused and motivated. Whether it is a career, personal growth, or a combination of both, setting specific goals will guide us towards our desired outcomes.2. Network and build relationships: The connections we make during college and beyond will be invaluable in our future endeavors. Buildinga strong network of friends, colleagues, and mentors will open doors and provide support when we need it most.3. Embrace change: Change is the only constant in life. By embracing change and being open to new experiences, we can navigate the future with confidence and adaptability.4. Take risks: Success often comes from taking calculated risks. We must be willing to step out of our comfort zones, to try new things, and to learn from our mistakes.5. Maintain a balance: As we pursue our goals, it is essential to maintain a healthy balance between work, personal life, and well-being.A balanced life will enable us to be more productive and fulfilled. In conclusion, as we embark on the journey of the future, let us carry with us the lessons we have learned during our time in college. Let us embrace adaptability, lifelong learning, and resilience as we face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Let us set clear goals, build strong relationships, and take calculated risks. And most importantly, let us maintain a balance that allows us to thrive both professionally and personally. As we leave this university, let us do so with pride, gratitude, and excitement for the future that awaits us. We are the graduates of this institution, and we have the power to shape our own destiny. Thank you for this incredible journey, and I wish each and every one of you the best of luck as we move forward into the next chapter of our lives.Thank you. Ladies and Gentlemen,Good evening. As we approach the end of this academic year, I find myself reflecting on the journey that has brought us to this point. This journey has been marked by challenges, triumphs, and countless lessons that will undoubtedly shape our futures.Firstly, let me express my gratitude to the faculty, staff, and administration of this university for their unwavering commitment to our education and personal growth. Your dedication has been instrumental in creating an environment where we have been able to explore our passions, expand our horizons, and prepare for the complexities of the modern world. The theme of my speech is "Embracing the Future: The Role of Higher Education in Shaping Our World." As we stand on the precipice of new beginnings, it is crucial that we understand the transformative power of higher education and how it equips us to navigate the future with confidence and purpose. The Transformative Power of Higher EducationHigher education is not merely about acquiring knowledge; it is about cultivating critical thinking, fostering creativity, and nurturing a sense of global citizenship. In today's rapidly changing world, these qualities are more important than ever.1. Critical Thinking: One of the most significant gifts of higher education is the development of critical thinking skills. This abilityto question, analyze, and evaluate information is essential in a world where misinformation and bias are prevalent. We must learn to think critically to discern fact from fiction and to make informed decisions that impact our lives and the world around us.2. Creativity: In an era of technological advancement and automation, creativity remains a crucial human trait. Higher education encourages us to think outside the box, to innovate, and to find new solutions to the challenges we face. Whether we pursue careers in the arts, sciences, or business, creativity will be the driving force behind our success andthe key to unlocking new possibilities.3. Global Citizenship: The world is more interconnected than ever before. Higher education instills in us a sense of global responsibility and a deeper understanding of the diverse cultures and perspectives that make up our global community. As future leaders and influencers, we must beequipped to work collaboratively across borders and to address theglobal issues that affect us all.Shaping Our World: The Challenges and OpportunitiesAs we embrace the future, we must also acknowledge the challenges thatlie ahead. Climate change, economic inequality, and politicalinstability are just a few of the issues that demand our attention and action. However, with these challenges come opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and positive change.1. Climate Change: The urgency of addressing climate change cannot be overstated. As future professionals, we have the opportunity to develop sustainable practices, promote renewable energy sources, and advocatefor policies that protect our planet for future generations.2. Economic Inequality: Economic disparities continue to widen, creating social and political tensions. We must work to bridge these gaps by promoting economic opportunities, advocating for fair labor practices, and supporting initiatives that empower marginalized communities.3. Political Instability: In a world where political divisions seem to grow wider by the day, we must strive to be agents of unity and understanding. By fostering dialogue, promoting empathy, and working towards common goals, we can contribute to a more stable and peaceful world. The Role of Universities in Preparing Us for the FutureUniversities play a vital role in preparing us for the future byoffering a comprehensive education that encompasses intellectual, social, and personal development. Here are some key ways in which universities contribute to our readiness for the challenges ahead:1. Interdisciplinary Programs: By offering interdisciplinary programs, universities enable us to gain a holistic understanding of complexissues and to develop a diverse skill set that is adaptable to various career paths.2. Internships and Practical Experience: Hands-on experience through internships and co-op programs allows us to apply our knowledge in real-world settings and to build valuable professional networks.3. Community Engagement: Universities often engage with local communities through service-learning programs, research initiatives, and public service projects. These experiences foster a sense of social responsibility and prepare us to be active and contributing members of society.4. Mentorship and Support: The mentorship and support provided byfaculty and peers can be invaluable in guiding us through our academic and professional journeys. These relationships help us to grow and to develop the confidence to face the future with courage.ConclusionAs we prepare to graduate, we must remember that the true value of our education lies not in the degrees we earn, but in the knowledge, skills, and values we have acquired. As the final exam for the general English course approaches, I find myself reflecting on the progress I have made over the past semester. It has been a challenging but rewarding experience, and I am proud of how much I have improved my English language skills. One of the biggest challenges for me was speaking in front of the class. I have always been a bit shy, and speaking in a second language only added to my nerves. However, with the help of my classmates and the encouragement of my teacher, I have become much more confident in my speaking abilities. I have learned to use idiomatic expressions and colloquial language to make my speech more natural and engaging. In addition to speaking, I have also worked hard on improving my writing skills. I have learned how tostructure essays and use a wide range of vocabulary to express my ideas clearly and effectively. I have also become more familiar with academic writing conventions, such as citing sources and formatting references.Overall, I feel that I have made significant progress in all areas of English language learning. I am now able to express myself more fluently and accurately, both in spoken and written form. I am confident that this improvement will serve me well in my future academic and professional endeavors.

1Learning English at college is different from learning English at middle school. In middle school, we learn English mainly for the entrance examination for college, while the purpose of learning English at college is quite different. We study foreign languages now to improve our ability to work in the future and especially to communicate with foreiguers. How can we learn English well at college? Firstly, you should try your best to enlarge your vocabulary. Only in this way can you read more smoothly and understand others well. Secondly, you should pay more attention to the listening and speaking ability in learning English. While talking with foreigners, if you cant understand them, and do not know how to express yourself, the talking will be very difficult. And the last point is that you should improve your English whenever and wherever you can.Obviously, there is still a long way for us to go to learn English well. As a proverb says, Never too old to learn. There are so many methods to learn English. So long as you keep on studying, your English will surely be improved. 2In general, knowledge gained from books has a wider range than that gained from experience. We now live in a world that typophile is no longer exorbitant, and that printed matters are readily available. In libraries, we can learn nearly everything only if we have already acquired basic reading skills, philosophy, history, literature, physics, mathematics, chemicals, biology, geography, anthropology, and the list will go on. Unlike the experience of an individual that is limited by the range of that individual, books seem to have almost no limitation. Sitting in the local library, we virtually can travel everywhere through an interesting geographic encyclopedia, and certainly, with nearly no expense at all. On the other hand, it can be argued that sometimes knowledge gained from experience is much deeper and more comprehensive than that gained from books. It is quite true that not every thing is contained in books. How to deal with personal finance, how to cope with current social trends, even how to most effectively organize our own mind, and numerous other things can seldom be found thoroughly and comprehensively discussed in books, we have to gain the knowledge by our own experience. And the sad news is that even some knowledge that is contained in books usually needs further comprehension, mainly through experience. As to which source is more important, the answers vary. Some knowledge can be acquired only through books. It's hard to imagine we can have a good understanding of history without reading books. On the other hand, some knowledge can be obtained only through experience. When we try to learn to swim, merely a detailed manual of swimming skills, even abundantly filled with illustrations, is at most useless. We have to jump into the water and then gain the knowledge with experience. We have to use books and experience as source simultaneously to get what we want to know. Take learning physics for example, both books and experiences are equally important sources, and examples as such are numerous. Therefore, I think whether one source is more important than the other depends on circumstances.

Studying in university is a whole new experience. You get to meet so many different people from all walks of life. It's like a big melting pot of ideas and cultures. And the best part is, you get to learn from each other. The workload can be pretty intense, though. I mean, there's always something to read or write or study for. But hey, that's what we signed up for, right? It's all about pushing ourselves and expanding our knowledge. One thing I've learned is that time management is key.I used to be a major procrastinator, but now I've realized that if I want to stay on top of things, I need to be organized and disciplined. It's not always easy, but it's definitely worth it in the end.Living away from home for the first time can be a bit overwhelming. Suddenly, you're responsible for everything– cooking, cleaning, laundry, you name it. It's a crashcourse in adulting, that's for sure. But it's also a great opportunity to learn independence and self-reliance.The social scene in university is unlike anything else. There are so many clubs and organizations to join, events to attend, and parties to go to. It's important to find a balance between having fun and staying focused on your studies. It's all about finding your tribe and making the most of your time here.Overall, university is a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. There are highs and lows, but it's all part of the journey. I wouldn't trade this time for anything, though. It's shaping me into the person I want to be, and I'm grateful for every moment of it.。

1According to a survey,in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is primarily caused by the following factors.First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only children of their families. They are the apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. In addition, with the improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tend to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending. From my point of view,a college student,as a pure consumer, should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.
