书面表达在英语高考试题中占20.8%的分值,计25分,它是强调英语基础知识的应用和培养学生能力的题型。
但从实际的课堂教学和学生的考试结果来看,学生在这一题型中能力较弱,失分较多,写作水平令人堪忧。
一、学生在书面表达中失分主要原因
在平时批阅学生的书面表达过程中,笔者注意到学生在写书面表达时经常会犯的一些错误并对其做出分析。
(一)审题不清,未看清或看全写作要求
书面表达这一题型是整份试卷的最后一个项目,按正常的做题顺序和速度,学生完成这一项的时间大概在30分钟,但如果前面用在阅读理解项目的时间多了的话,所能用的时间更少。
因此,学生在做到书面表达的时候,由于害怕时间不够,心里是比较急促的。
在这种情况下,审题不清、未看清或看全写作要求的问题就出现了。
如在完成2011年江苏卷的书面表达时,有的考生误将女儿给母亲拿包看成了女儿将包拿给母亲提。
又如,题目中明明要求对某一现象进行分析并根据自己的经历或感想提出解决方法,而有的学生只分析现象然后泛泛地空喊几句口号,却没有结合自己的经历或感想提出解决方法。
像这样的书面表达,最后的得分可想而知。
(二)词汇量缺乏,不能正确、恰当地使用词汇
书面表达的字数要求在150字左右,但恰恰就是这150个左右的字却难倒了我们学习英语学了6年甚至更长时间的学生中的相当一部分人。
究其原因,一方面
是因为学生平时不注重词汇量的积累。
因为平时实际生活中运用的较少,学生背单词绝大多数都是局限于教科书上Wordlist中的单词,而在平时阅读中碰见的相当一部分有价值的单词都被忽略了。
另一方面,即便是Wordlist中所呈现出来的单词,学生也未完全掌握,大多数都停留在知道汉语意思这一层面,能够被正确、恰当使用的词汇少之又少。
所以导致他们在完成书面表达时往往是词不达意,而根据汉语的句子顺序用相应的英语单词堆砌成英语句子,例如,Welcome you come to our school to visit.
(三)基本句型掌握不够好,中式英语表达比比皆是
基本句型的掌握是学好英语的关键之一,也是学生完成书面表达所必须要掌握的。
然而,不少学生基本句型掌握的不够好,导致写作文时句子结构混乱,句型错误,句子成分不齐全或出现多个谓语动词而又无连接词的语法错误。
例如,There were hundreds of students couldn’t go to school . The noise made us couldn’t focus on our studies. 此外,很多学生在写短文时容易受汉语习惯影响,所写的句子虽然语法正确,却是不符合英语表达习惯的中式英语,例如,My height is 180 centimeters and my body is healthy.
(四)篇章布局逻辑性差,未能有效地使用语句间的连接成分
要想写出一篇好的文章,考生不能把材料中所提供要点的顺序简单地当成自己文章的顺序。
然而,不少学生在写作时,完全根据材料前后顺序,将所给内容逐一翻译成英语,或者虽有一些变化,但文意不通顺。
这些都会使短文前后不连贯,逻辑性不强。
二、提高书面表达的策略
(一)确保写作时间,仔细审题,合理谋篇布局
首先,平时训练时,不能拖拖拉拉,而应限时完成,这样才能确保正式考试时迅速进入状态。
时间上确保之后,审题开始。
审好题,是书面表达的第一步,是切中题意、谋篇布局的关键。
动笔前,要花2-3分钟的时间仔细分析试题,抓住题目的关键词,将其圈点出来,使要点醒目。
审题主要是一审文体,即确定短文的形式。
二审要点和要求,确定短文的中心及要点。
短文的中心是短文的灵魂。
中心要明确,必要时可以写出提纲和主题句,即“列点”,从而防止画蛇添足的现象;其次,还要确定短文的时态、人称。
注意使用熟悉和地道的短语;再次,要使用恰当的关联词。
一般来说,如果一篇文章按第一、第二、第三或首先、其次、再次等顺序罗列要点会让人感觉层次分明、条理清晰、逻辑性强。
(二)注重词汇积累和训练,准确、恰当使用词汇
词汇的积累和准确使用对于提高学生的写作水平起着至关重要的作用,以此学生在平时应运用一些方法高效地积累和记忆。
如组词记忆,即将一个词扩展成一个词组,再延伸成一个更长的词组,例如weather—→bad weather—→bad weather of the Arctic. 再如词性转换记忆,celebration(n.)——celebrate (v.).beautiful(adj.)——beautify (v.).还有要利用课文和课外阅读材料,有针对性地积累和记忆,如将阅读中碰到的自己感兴趣的词及时摘录下来,定期进行翻阅记忆。
(三)注重句子结构的分析,写出地道纯正的英语句子
想写出纯正、地道、符合英语表达习惯的句子,先从基本句型开始。
学生可用一张小纸条把五个基本句型写下来并贴在自己课桌最显眼的地方,在平时写句子时,对着这五个基本句型写。
当然,如果一篇短文里全是简单句,分数也不会高。
这就要求学生尽量使用较复杂的句子,这还是先从分析句子结构开始。
在平时的
阅读过程中,有意识地对长难句进行句子结构分析,分析清楚之后,进行仿写,例如,The first time I watched Do the Right Thing two years ago,I was left thinking about the times I’ve experienced someone judging me based on my race or where my parents are from. 对此句进行仿写,“下一次见到他的时候,请帮我转达我的祝愿。
”(The next time you meet him, please give my best wishes to him.)
