STEP BY STEP DIY FIX TV MAIN BOARD

TV Problem/ Symptoms: The TV would powers on and the Sony, LG, SAMSUNG, SHARP, PANASONIC and Vizio logo lit up and green “ power-on light came on but no picture or sounds and it automatically turn off and on again – It is a

main board problem.

1.Open the back of the TV

Remove the screws from rear cover and remove the rear cover (refer to service manual on how to remove

the back cover)

(CAUTION: When opening the TV, be sure to unplug the power cord to avoid any chance of electric shock. Electric shock can cause death!)

2.Remove the mainboard from the TV (REFER TO SERVICE MANUAL)

NOTE : The main board is the central hub of a television circuit system, contain a tuner, HDMI, USB, and S-

video port or an audio video (A/V) board. Take a picture before removing the cables and wires, to guide you

to reinstall it correctly.

3.Clean the main board using a dry brush for any dust.

NOTE: Inspect for physical damage, no components looked fried or burnt, no capacitors looked bad, and all the part looked good, If no damage then proceed to step 4, If you see any burnt or crack then you need to buy another one for replacement ( check on ebay).

4.Bake the main board in a conventional oven at 250 ºC or more for 10 minutes.

( Do not use microwave oven)

NOTE: This method is use to fix tiny cracks on solder connections due to heating and cooling for many years, by baking the main board, cause to melt the solders and flow back the connection. Before baking the mainboard, wrap an aluminum foil ( kitchen foil) around the more sensitive parts like rca connector, cable/wire adapter

connector, usb port and hdmi to prevent plastic to melt (see sample illustration below, with mark red circle)

5.Aftrer 10 minutes of baking the main board, turn the oven off/ unplug it and remove

the mainboard carefully and let if cool for 35 minutes or more

6.Install the main board and test

Note: Install the main board in the reverse order that you removed it and double

check to make sure cable are in correct location and connected properly.

7.Turn the tv on to test if it works

Note: Do not touch anything at the back after you plug the power) BE SAFE!

8.If it works turn it off and unplug the power cord and reinstall the back cover.

9.If it does not work- try baking again for 15 minute and try higher temperature. (In my

experience it works after 10min at 250 ºC pre heated )

Warning: Be safe! Always wear protective gear when working on electronics. Safety Glasses, Gloves,

etc. Attempt to repair at your own risk! Might void your warranty, and possible damage the TV.
