中国日报社21世纪杯英语演讲

中国日报社21世纪杯英语演讲The 21st Century has ushered in a new era of globalization and interconnectedness. As the world becomes increasingly integrated both economically and culturally nations must strive to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives. This sentiment is at the heart of the China Daily 21st Century Cup English Speech Contest a prestigious event that provides a platform for young people to share their visions for the future and celebrate the power of language to bridge divides. For many participants the journey to the contest stage begins with a profound personal connection to the themes of cross-cultural exchange and universal human values. Xu Mei a university student from Guangzhou reflects I have always been fascinated by the rich tapestry of global cultures. Growing up I was surrounded by the ancient history and traditions of China but I was equally enthralled by the opportunity to learn about the customs and beliefs of other nations. When I heard about the 21st Century Cup I knew it was a chance to voice my passion for international cooperation and understanding.Xu Mei's sentiments are echoed by Wang Tao a high school student from Beijing who says the contest allows him to explore his dual identity as a Chinese citizen and a global citizen. As someone who has had the privilege of studying abroad I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of cultural exchange. I believe that by sharing our unique perspectives and life experiences we can foster greater empathy and breakdown harmful stereotypes. The 21st Century Cup provides a platform to do just that.Indeed the contestants views reflect a deep well of optimism and belief in the ability of young people to shape a more harmonious future. For Liang Wen a young professional from Chengdu the speech contest represents an opportunity to amplify the voices of youth on the world stage. Our generation has grown up in a time of unprecedented technological advancement and societal change she explains. We have a unique vantage point and a fresh vision for addressing global challenges like climate change poverty and conflict. The 21st Century Cup allows us to articulate these ideas with confidence and clarity. At the same time the contestants recognize that cultivating cross-cultural understanding is a lifelong journey that requires open minds and a willingness to listen and learn. As Xu Mei notes Mutual respect and empathy are not achieved overnight. They are the product ofsustained effort to bridge divides and find commonalities. The 21st Century Cup encourages participants to embark on this journey by honing their communication skills and broadening their perspectives. For the judges of the contest this educational mission is paramount. We are not simply looking for eloquent speeches says Li Jing the head judge. We want to see evidence that the contestants have deeply engaged with the themes of the competition and developed a nuanced understanding of diverse global contexts. The most compelling presentations will not only showcase linguistic prowess but also demonstrate a sincere commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue. This commitment is on full display throughout the competition as contestants take the stage to share their visions. Some speak passionately about the role of technology in creating a more interconnected world while others explore the enduring importance of face-to-face interactions and cultural exchange programs. Many touch on the imperative to address urgent global issues through collaborative action.Regardless of their specific focus each participant brings a unique personal story that resonates with the audience. Liang Wen for instance recounts her experience growing up as the child of migrant workers in urban China and how this shaped her understanding ofinequality and the need for greater social mobility. Wang Tao meanwhile reflects on the profound impact of his study abroad experience in the United States where he gained a deeper appreciation for diversity and the richness of multicultural societies. These deeply personal narratives are woven together with carefully crafted arguments and persuasive rhetorical techniques to create speeches that are as intellectually stimulating as they are emotionally compelling. The judges are consistently impressed by the contestants ability to thoughtfully engage with complex global issues and communicate their ideas with passion and eloquence. At the same time the competition provides an opportunity for the participants to learn from one another and expand the horizons of their worldview. As Xu Mei observes I was humbled and inspired by the diverse perspectives shared by my fellow contestants. Listening to their stories and ideas pushed me to reflect more deeply on my own beliefs and assumptions. This cross-pollination of ideas is a key goal of the 21st Century Cup fostering mutual understanding through the exchange of knowledge and experiences.Ultimately the significance of the competition extends far beyond the individual contestants. As Li Jing explains the 21st Century Cup is part of a broader effort by China Daily to promote global connectivity and intercultural dialogue. In an era of increasingpolarization and nationalism these values are more important than ever. By highlighting the perspectives of young people the contest sends a powerful message about the indispensable role of youth in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.For the participants the 21st Century Cup represents a transformative experience that will have a lasting impact on their personal and professional trajectories. Many past winners have gone on to pursue careers in fields like diplomacy international development and global business leveraging the skills and networks they gained through the competition. But beyond these tangible outcomes the contestants share a deep sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to making a positive difference in the world. As Liang Wen so eloquently states I believe that our generation has a unique responsibility to serve as ambassadors of goodwill and champions of universal human values. Through events like the 21st Century Cup we can demonstrate the power of open and respectful dialogue to bridge divides and Find common ground. It is my hope that the voices raised on this stage today will continue to reverberate long after the competition has ended inspiring others to join us in this vital mission.。
A Scene to Remember第八届“21世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛

第八届“21世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛冠军——顾秋蓓,上海外国语大学Gu Qiubei, Shanghai International Studies UniversityA Scene to RememberGood afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, ③the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Diana Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so manynew problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur - natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges are devastating Nepal. Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica. Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these appalling facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding our resources. Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 2002 the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our eco-environment.Now every year, many local eco-environmental protection organizations are receiving donations - big notes, small notes or even coins - from housewives, plumbers, ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and invalids. Some of them cannot afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who aresuffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care,③Because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to be remembered, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. Diana Fossey because it is with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our eco-environment that we are taking our next step into the world. And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our minds, there's always a scene to remember, ①a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.Thank you very much.。

21世纪杯学生比赛英语演讲稿范文21世纪杯学生比赛英语演讲稿范文篇1East and West have metrunner-up: Rui Cheng gang, Foreign Affair CollegeHonorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:Kipling said:“ East is east, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet!” But now, a century later, they have met. They have met in business. They have met in education. They have met in the arts. Some would argue that these meetings leave us with a choice between East and West ,but I believe the best future lies in the creative combination of both worlds. We can make Western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. We can enjoy the best of all worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own. But, do Western styles and values threaten our identity?History makes it easy for us to think so-perhaps too easy. Some people seem to think that adopting Western customs, such as a bride wearing white-which has long been a color of mourning in China, instead of the traditional Chinese red for her wedding, is another submission to foreign intervention,--a betrayal of our heritage, they say. They fear that as we become “globalied”, we will no longer be Chinese.I do not agree.History teachers that a strong and confidentnation is at ease in hearing from the outside world. The wedding of Eastern and Western cultures, whether in white gowns or red, brings us variety. It is a rich banquet of special foods from all over the world. As an amateur gourmet of Chinese cuisine, our superb flavours delight me.But my Chinese taste appreciates food from any land.I even allow the convenience of McDonald's a place in my life without giving up my good taste. My grandfather taught me to hum tunes of Beijing opera from the time I was very young; they are deep in my spirit, part of my soul.I love Beijing opera, because it always reminds me of who I am.But I am also a fan of modern pop music, the No.1 fan of Spice Girls on campus.of course, it goes far beyond food, music and dance. It goes into values and ways of thinking about the world.Once upon a time, or so my teacher told me, a Chinese boy and an American girl had a squabble. Both wanted to keep a bunny rabbit they had found in the garden.Surely you've seen a rabbit sunning himself in the grass.Nothing is more lovable, nothing more natural. No wonder they wanted him. The Chinese boy played his er-hu. Happiness and joy, longing and passion, filled theair. The little rabbit swayed gently and began to move his ears in the direction of the music. He liked what he heard. The girl then took out her violin and played it to produce beautiful melodies of her own.The rabbit began to bounce in her direction. So intent were the children on their own musicthat neither paid the other any attention. The competing melodies confused the little rabbit and he did not know which way to turn .Unable to attract the little creature, both children gaveup ;they walked away, in different directions, leaving the rabbit. . .alone.But, what if they listened ,what if they really heard each other's music, instead of always playing their own tunes? When I hear the music of a violin ,rich with the joys of men and women who came together and sang and danced.. . I hear echoes of the music of the grass lands, of the hills, of the rivers...of my own native land.Is music mine and yours, or is it ours? What I want to hear is the er-hu and the violin played together, in rhythm and in tune. Together, we can produce new and beautiful music, rich withtextures and sounds that can only be made in harmony. The rabbit sits in the grass in the ever-warming sun. Waiting for us to play, waiting for the symphony to begin. Will he have to wait forever? The choice is ours . Thank you.尊敬的评委、女士们、先生们:吉卜林说过,“东方是东方,西方是西方,两者永不聚!”然而如今,在一个世纪之后,东西方相聚了。
