punchedinthefacebydepression,ididtheonlythingicouldthinkofatthetime.iw rotethosesamekindsoflettersthatmymotherhadwrittenmeforstrangers,andt uckedthemallthroughoutthecity,dozensanddozensofthem.ileftthemeveryw here,incafesandinlibraries,attheu.n.,everywhere.ibloggedaboutthoseletter sandthedayswhentheywerenecessary,andiposedakindofcrazypromisetothe internet:thatifyouaskedmeforahand-

givethemareasontowaitbythemailbox.well,todayifuelaglobalorganizationth atisfueledbythosetripstothemailbox,fueledbythewaysinwhichwecanharnes ssocialmedialikeneverbeforetowriteandmailstrangersletterswhentheyneed themmost,butmostofall,fueledbycratesofmaillikethisone,mytrustymailcrat e,filledwiththescriptingsofordinarypeople,strangerswritingletterstootherstr angersnotbecausethey'reevergoingtomeetandlaughoveracupofcoffee,butb ecausetheyhavefoundoneanotherbywayofletter-
