The Origin of ChristmasChristmas is a Christian holiday that celebratesthe birth of Jesus Christ. No one knows the exactdate of Christ's birth, but most Christians observeChristmas on December 25. On this day, many go to church, where they take part in special religious services. During the Christmas season, they also exchange gifts and decorate their homes with holly, mistletoe, and Christmas trees. The word Christmas comes from Cristes maesse, an early English phrase that means Mass of Christ. The story of Christmas comes chiefly from the Gospels of Saint Luke and Saint Matthew in the New Testament. Most children believe that Santa Claus lives at the North Pole. All year he lists the names of children, both those who have been good and those who have been bad. He decideswhat presents to give to the good children. Each child hung a stocking, or sock, over the fireplace. Santa entered down the chimney and left candy and presents inside the socks for the children. On the morning of Christmas day. Each child can't wait to open his or her eyes to see what Santa has left in the stocking. Some Wishes of ChristmasMerry Christmas and a happy newyear. We wish you a merry Christmas.Wishing you a white Christmas.Don't forget to hang up the sock!Christmas CardsAnother important custom of Christmas is to send and receive Christmas cards, which are meant to help express the sentiment of the season. Americans begin sending Christmas cards early in December to friends, acquaintances, and co-workers. The post office advises customers to mail early in the season and avoid the Christmas rush. Some people heed the advice; others wait until the last minute and then are upset when their loved ones have not received the greeting card or the present which they sent.Name Class Grade。

In Britain, Christmas dinner is eaten at
noon, and the dinner usually includes roast
turkey or goose, Christmas pudding with
mince pies, and accompanied by wine. One
of the most important Christmas traditions is
receiving gifts from Santa Claus. Many
young children believe that the presents they
receive at Christmas are given by Santa
Claus, who is a jolly, white-bearded fat man
in a red suit and red hat. According to the
story, Santa Claus travels
through the air from
somewhere near the North
Pole in a sled drawn by
reindeer and comes down
the chimney to leave the
presents.

Nowadays ,Christmas is celebrated by most of people
by exchanging gifts and Christmas cards, preparing
holiday foods, and decorating homes and workplaces
with colored lights, Christmas trees and ornaments. It is
the biggest festival celebrated
in the Christian
countries of the world.
After presents are opened
on Christmas morning,
preparations are quickly underway for the Christmas lunch
where the whole family will gather and eat the Christmas
Crackers.

A traditional Christmas dinner in Britain a includes stuffed
turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce , and a variety of other
dishes. Roast turkey is the most popular main course not only in the
United States, but also in Canada,
Australia, and New Zealand.
Some families have ham
or roast goose instead of
turkey. Favorite desserts
include mince pie or pumpkin
pie, plum pudding and
fruitcake. Eggnog is a popular
Christmas beverage in many
homes.

Christmas Eve dinners are usually and quite
unsurprisingly elaborate affairs with beef roasts and
turkeys and cheese fondues and what not. People even
have seafood during Christmas Eve suppers and
experiment with various Christmas recipes. But one
particular traditional Christmas dinner component
since the 17th century would have to be the drink of
'egg nog', very strong beverage with its main
constituent being beer. Other things mixed with it were
egg yolk, lemon, cinnamon nd some sugar. However,
the French adaptation of the 'nog', adopted by the
Americans some time in the 19th century, was called
'Lait de Poule' which also had milk as an ingredient
along with the above mentioned fixings. Even today,
the constituents used in the nogs are similar with milk
being replaced with cream and liquor, such as sherry,
rum, or brandy being used, but now the mixture is
cooked over a flame and heated in order to kill certain
bacteria that may otherwise thrive in the raw drink.
