How about having it brought to you by a robot? Thanks to Domino"s Robotic Unit or DRU, that just became a reality! On March 8, the three-foot tall robot delivered its first pizza to some lucky residents in Brisbane, Australia. The fully autonomous DRU is the result of cooperation between Domino"s Pizza Australia and Marathon Robotics. The 450-pound machine that travels at a maximum speed of 12. 4 miles an hour can traverse a distance of up to 12 miles and back, before requiring to recharge the battery. LIDAR, a laser-based sensor technology similar to the one used in self-driving cars, enables DRU to detect and avoid obstacles, while traditional sensors, much like those used in vacuum robots ensure its path is safe as it heads to its destination. The robot can fit up to ten pizzas and even has a separate cold area to accommodate drink orders. To access their food, customers have to enter the unique code provided for them by the company. This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.Scientists expect additional DRU"s to be ready for service in their various Queensland locations within the next six months. But don"t expect these super cute robots to replace humans anytime soon. According to Domino"s the DRU still needs extensive testing, which the company believes could take up to two years. And then there is also the issue of regulations. The public use of autonomous vehicles is still banned in most countries. But Don Meij, the CEO and Managing Director of Domino"s Pizza Australia New Zealand Ltd, is not worried. He is“confident that one day DRU will become an integral part of the Domino"s family. ”What"s the function of LIDAR?A、Recharging DRU"s battery.B、Keeping DRU free of obstacles.C、Helping DRU find its destination.D、Protecting DRU from bad weather. The underlined word “accommodate” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.A、holdB、sellC、heatD、showWhat can we infer about the future of DRU?A、It will replace humans soon.B、It will be applied worldwide.C、It may be banned in Australia.D、It may need some improvements.【答案】:【解析】:第12题【阅读理解】阅读理解No one enjoys hearing the sound of someone else chewing their food. Most of the time, though, it"s not that big a deal but a minor annoyance. But for a small group of people with misophonia (恐音症), the sound can be painful, causing extreme anger and deep discomfort. The most ordinary sounds of chewing and breathing can drive them crazy. Past attempts to explain the causes of misophonia have suggested everything from compulsive disorder to an easily-annoyed personality—but according to a study published yesterday in the journal CurrentBiology, the true criminal is the structure of the brain. For the study, a team of researchers led by Newcastle University neuroscientist Sukhbinder Kumar recruited (招募) 42 volunteers, of whom around half had extreme misophonia and the other half served as the control group, and played them several different noises: some ordinary; some harsh, like the sound of a person screaming; and some that were ordinary for the control group but known to be annoying for misophonics, people with misophonia, like the sound of breathing. As the participants listened, the researchers monitored them for signs of anxiety, both physical symptoms and behavioral expressions, and observed their brain activity using FMRI scans. The only significant difference in reaction between the two groups happened, during the misophonia-specific sounds, when those with the condition showed physical changes that suggested they were entering fight-or-flight mode.Misophonics had increased activity in the AIC, an area known to play a central role in the system that determines which things we should pay attention to. When the trigger sounds were played, there was not only more activity in this region but also abnormally high levels of connection to other regions.Misophonia, in other words, may be a result of misplaced attention the brain of a misophonic focuses on things that other people normally tune out (不予理会). On a related note, on behalf of misophonics and manners-minded moms everywhere: Please, chew with your mouth closed. What is the true criminal of misophonia?A、Sounds of chewing and breathing.B、Compulsive disorder.C、An easily-annoyed personality.D、The structure of the brain.Which way did researches use to carry out their research?A、Playing volunteers several different voices.B、Observing volunteers" heart activity using FMRI scans.C、Monitoring volunteers for signs of anxiety.D、Analyzing volunteers" answers to specific questions.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A、Misophonics had decreased activity in the AIC during the misophonia-specific sounds.B、The brain of a misophonic concentrates on things other people normally ignore.C、Around 42 volunteers with extreme misophonia were recruited in the research.D、Chewing food noisily is appreciated by the people all over the world. What is the main idea of the passage?A、Reasons why misophonics can"t stand even small noises.B、Misophonia may cause misplaced attention.C、We should care for misophonics.D、Symptoms of misophonia.【答案】:【解析】:第13题【阅读理解】阅读理解If you want to convince the boss you deserve a pay rise or promotion, the solution could be simple—eat the same food as they do.Psychologists have discovered managers are much more likely to instantly trust us if we choose the same dishes as them.During experiments, discussions over wages and work conditions were much more successful if both sides chose to snack on the same treats. And shoppers were much more likely to buy a product advertised on TV by someone eating a similar food to them at the time. The reason is thought to be so-called similarity attraction theory—where people tend to like others who have similar tastes or habits to themselves. But this is believed to be one of the first studies highlighting the role of food in this relationship.Researchers at Chicago University in the US conducted a series of experiments to examine food"s role in earning trust. In a test, participants were told to watch TV—where someone pretending to be a member of the public praised a certain product. The volunteers were given Kit Kat bars to nibble, while the TV people ate either a Kit Kat or grapes as they talked. The results showed viewers were much more likely to express an interest in buying the product if the TV showed the other person eating a Kit Kat too.The researchers added, “Although similarity in food consumption is not a sign of whether two people will get along, we find consumers treat this as such. They feel more trusting of those who consume as they do.It means people can immediately begin to feel friendship and develop a bond, leading to smoother transactions from the start.”Harley Street psychologist Dr.Lucy Atcheson said it was already known that wearing similar clothes could instantly create trust. But this was the first report that food had the same effect. She said, “This is reallyinteresting. It makes sense as people feel they have common ground and can trust the other person. That means negotiations are more likely to be successful.”According to the passage, customers are likely to buy a product from a dealer who ________.A、has the same taste as themB、advertises his products on TVC、reduces the price of his productsD、pays attention to the quality of his productsThe experiments conducted by researchers at Chicago University show that ________.A、food plays an important role in earning people"s trustB、bosses like employees that have the same taste as themC、people who have similar tastes to their boss"s earn moreD、people have less interest in buying products advertised on TVWhat can be inferred from the passage?A、People who eat similar food are more likely to trust each other.B、People will get along with each other if they like to eat similar things.C、The effect of wearing similar clothes hasn"t been proved by researchers.D、People are more likely to make friends with those wearing the same clothes as them.Which of the following sayings can be an example of the similarity attraction theory?A、Honesty is the best policy.B、All good things come to an end.C、Birds of a feather flock together.D、Where there is a will, there is a way.【答案】:【解析】:第14题【翻译】毕竟,当我为人生选择一个方向时,也失去了(选择)其他方向的可能性。

By using infrared (红外线的) imagery they discovered that the hidden man under the painting was a man with his face resting on his hand. Now the question that scientists at The Phillips Collection hope to answer is simple. Who is he?The finding of the hidden man in The Blue Room leads to new research about the 1901 painting, which was created by Picasso in Paris at the start of his blue period of unhappiness. Researchers discovered that the hidden man was painted in a reworked composition by Picasso. They are sure that it is not a self-portrait. They think it might be the Paris art dealer Ambrose Villard who hosted Picasso’s first s how in 1901, but there’s no record or evidence to prove this, so the research continues.Hidden pictures have been found under other important Picasso paintings, such as La Vie and Woman Ironing. A technical analysis of La Vie at the Cleveland Museum of Art also found that Picasso reworked the painting's composition. And scientists found a portrait of a man under Picasso's painting Woman Ironing at the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan.Dorothy Kosinski, director of The Phillips Collection, said more new knowledge about Picasso’s paintings can be discovered through high-tech cooperation (合作) among museums. "Our audiences are curious about the high tech research because it can help them know more about the paintings. It's giving thema doorway to make them understand Picasso's paintings more," she said. Pop art emerged from the foundation of abstract art in the 1950s, first gaining recognition in Great Britain, then establishing itself in the United States in the 1960s.In the 1930s and 1940s,abstract art was greatly popular, but people began to hate this art form. Most abstract art produced in this era could be found in art galleries or the homes of the elite(名流), not in the homes of everyday people. Pop art sprung onto the scene as the people's art. Some art critics say pop art is a rebellion against abstract art ; others say it is an extension of abstract art. You can see elements of abstract art in many pop art prints, especially those that consist of a collage of images. However, some pop art pieces have nothing to do with abstract art, looking more like a photo of a popular consumer item, which impressed people deeply.Richard Hamilton and Eduardo Paolozzi were two of the first contemporary pop art pioneers recognized in Great Britain. They were a part of the Independent Group, an organized group of British artists who wanted to challenge ruling modernist approaches to culture. They recognized the value of modern advertising and comic book images. They used these popular images in art as a social commentary, often building irony and humor into their artworks, thus creating a new form of art. These pieces were mass-produced and sold at affordable prices. When pop art took off in the United States, it expanded to include a celebration of kitsch and the common images found in movies and television. Andy Wharhol is perhaps the most famous American pop art artist, known for his prints of the actress Marilyn Monroe, the singer Elvis Presley and of Campbell's soup cans. Andy Wharhol was inspired by images from advertisements and common consumer items. He also made a series of paintings which showed images of car accidents.1.Why did people dislike abstract art?A.People found it hard to understand.B.Ordinary people couldn’t afford it.C.People disliked enjoying it in galleries.D.It wasn't based on everyday life.2.What impression do pop art works leave on people?A.They are a rebellion against abstract art.B.They have many elements of abstract art.C.They are created so real.D.They are products of advertisers.3.The Independent Group was set up to _______.A.introduce a new art form to the worldB.develop modern advertising furtherC.create new comic book imagesD.make British culture better known4.Which of the following is NOT the subject that Andy Wharhol once explored?A.Famous people.B.Material goods.C.Death and disaster.D.Politics.5、Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing. com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the hook will have an adventure, travelling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, "The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both."Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossers to keep them updated aboutwhere their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the "real" and not the virtual (虚拟).The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries.1.Why does the author mention book groups in the first paragraph?A.To explain what they are.B.To introduce BookCrossing.C.To stress the importance of reading.D.To encourage readers to share their ideas.2.What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.The book.B.An adventure.C.A public place.D.The identification number.3.What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it?A.Meet other readers to discuss it.B.Keep it safe in his bookcase.C.Pass it on to another reader.D.Mail it back to its owner.4.What is the best title for the text?A.Online Reading: A Virtual Tour.B.Electronic Books: A New Trend.C.A Book Group Brings Tradition Back.D.A Website Links People through Books.6、 "A good book might clarify something you knew little about, transform your world view, or move you in ways you didn't think possible. The Soul of an Octopus (章鱼) delivers on all three," the magazine New Scientist commented. After writing about birds, pigs and tigers, US naturalist Sy Montgomery decided to choose these multiped animals as the subject of her latest hook, The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness."Here is an animal with poisonous liquid like a snake, a beak (喙) like a parrot, and ink like an old-fashioned pen. It can weigh as much as a man and extend (延长) as long as a car, yet it can pour its baggy, boneless body through an opening the size of an orange. It can change colour and shape. It has a tongue covered with teeth. It can taste with its skin," Montgomery explained to National Geographic on why octopuses inspired her. What Montgomery is able to show in The Soul of an Octopus is that octopuses are creatures that exhibit personality, intelligence and emotion, despite having nervous systems completely different from our own. She uses different experiments to show that they possess consciousness as well as individual personalities. For example, based on her research, she finds out that Octavia, an octopus caught in the wild, is friendly and good at multitasking. And Kali, another octopus, which has been living at the New England Aquarium, is playful and loves exploring.Montgomery is a good storyteller. Through her study of, and communication with, these extraordinary creatures she shares what she learns from both science and her experiences. Her skillful writing presents facts together with personal description, which makes the book very informative but easy to read.1.Why is The Soul of an Octopus thought highly of?A.Because it is talking about a multiped animal.B.Because it mainly explores consciousness and wonders.C.Because it compares octopuses with birds, pigs and tigers.D.Because it offers new knowledge and changes your viewpoints.2.Octopuses impress Montgomery greatlybecause .A.they have unique physical functioningB.their liquid can be used as good inkC.they behave more like snakes and parrotsD.their bodies can be shrunk (收缩) to the size of an orange3.What does Montgomery think of octopuses according to Paragraph 4?A.They are friendly with each other.B.They are similar to humans in a way.C.They communicate with humans well.D.They have different nature from humans.4.Which of the following best describes the book?A.Vivid but unreal.B.Scientific and readable.C.Boring and ridiculous.D.Interesting but fictional.7、 When her five daughters were young, Helene An always told them that there was strength in unity (团结). To show this, she held up one chopstick, representing one person. Then she easily broke it into two pieces. Next, she tied several chopsticks together, representing a family. She showed the girls it was hard to break the tied chopsticks. This lesson about family unity stayed with the daughters as they grew up.Helene and her family own a large restaurant business in California. However, when Helene and her husband Danny left their home in Vietnam in 1975, they did n’t have much money. They moved their family to San Francisco. There they joined Danny’s mother, Diana, who owned a small Italian sandwich shop. Soon afterwards, Helene and Diana changed the sandwich shop into a small Vietnamese restaurant. The five daughters helped in the restaurant when they were young. However, Helene did not want her daughters to always work in the family business because she thought it was too hard.Eventually the girls all graduated from college and went away to work for themselves, but one by one, the daughters returned to work in the family business. They opened new restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Even though family members sometimes disagreed with each other, they worked together to make the business successful. Da ughter Elisabeth explains, “Our mother taught us that tosucceed we must have unity, and to have unity we must have peace. Without the strength of the family, there is no business.”Their expanding business became a large corporation in 1996, with three generations of Ans working together. Now they are a big success.1.Helene tied several chopsticks together to show _____.A.the strength of family unityB.the difficulty of growing upC.the advantage of chopsticksD.the best way of giving a lesson2.We can learn from Paragraph 2 that the An family _____.A.started a business in 1975B.left Vietnam without much moneyC.bought a restaurant in San FranciscoD.opened a sandwich shop in Los Angeles3.What can we infer about the An daughters?A.They did not finish their college education.B.They could not bear to work in the family business.C.They were influenced by what Helene taught them.D.They were troubled by disagreement among family members.4.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.How to Run a CorporationB.Strength Comes from PeaceC.How to Achieve a Big DreamD.Family Unity Builds Success8、 The style of writing poetry differs from person to person, long or short meters» three or four lines to a stanza. But the great thing is, no matter how a poem is written it still holds great emotion. Some common techniques are used in poetry.Onomatopoeia(拟声) is one of the easiest ways to learn and use. The definition of onomatopoeia is a word copying a sound. For example,“buzz”,“moo” and “beep”. This can be used in a variety of ways, giving the reader a “hands on” feel. One technique that you might be familiar with is alliteration(头韵). This procedure is used by starting three or more words with the same sound An exampleof this would be “The crazy crackling crops”. The three words don’t have to have the exact same beginning to have this effect. The next style is assonance(谐音). It is defined as a repetition of vowel sounds within syllables with changing consonants. This is also used in many different situations. One woul d be “tilting at windmills”. Notice the vowels within each syllable that sound the same.Rhyming is probably the most well-known technique used. However, unlike popular belief» it does not need to be within a poem to make it a poem.As for similes(明喻),they are often used within poetry. They are an expression that compares one thing to another. A paradigm of this would be “The milk tasted like pickles”. This method is used in all forms of poetry and generally has the words “like” or “as”.The last but not least style is metaphor(隐喻). A metaphor is a word or phrase used one way to mean another. Metaphors are sometimes hard to find and it takes some thinking to figure out, but they give writers more power to express their thoughts about a certain situation. In fact, not only is it found within the story, the story itself is a metaphor of memory and the constant reminder of the narrator's loss.To have a full grasp of poetry, onomatopoeia, alliteration, assonance, rhyming, simile and metaphor should be household words.1.To write a poem, you ________.A.needn't start with three exact same sound wordsB.should pay more attention to vowels and consonantsC.have to use the words such as “like” and “as”D.should use one word to refer to another meaning2.According to the text, the use of onomatopoeia makes ______.A.poems sound more like a poemB.readers experience a lifelike feelingC.the writer expresses himself in a free wayD.readers have difficulty understanding a poem3.Which of the following mean s “a word or phrase used one way to mean another”?A.Alliteration.B.Rhyming.C.Metaphor.D.Assonance.4.The underlined words “household words” may refer to words that________.A.describe the life of people at homeB.are used by family membersC.are connected with a homeD.are very well-known9、 Food serves as a form of communication in two fundamental ways. Sharing bread or other foods is a common human tradition that can promote unity and trust. Food can also have a specific meaning, and play a significant role in a family or culture's celebrations or traditions. The foods we eat—and when and how we eat them—are often unique to a particular culture or may even differ between rural(农村的) and urban areas within one country.Sharing bread, whether during a special occasion(时刻) or at the family dinner table, is a common symbol of togetherness. Many cultures also celebrate birthdays and marriages with cakes that are cut and shared among the guests. Early forms of cake were simply a kind of bread, so this tradition hits its roots in the custom of sharing bread.Food also plays an important role in many New Year celebrations. In the southern United States, pieces of corn bread represent blocks of gold for prosperity(兴旺) in the New Year. In Greece, people share a special cake called vasilopita. A coin is put into the cake, which signifies(预示) success in the New Year for the person who receives it.Many cultures have ceremonies to celebrate the birth of a child, and food can play a significant role. In China, when a baby is one month old, families name and welcome their child in a celebration that includes giving red-colored eggs to guests. In many cultures, round foods such as grapes, bread, and moon cakes are eaten at welcome celebrations to represent family unity.Nutrition is necessary for life, so it is not surprising that food is such an important part of different cultures around the world.1.According to the passage, sharing bread ______.A.indicates a lack of foodB.can help to develop unityC.is a custom unique to rural areasD.has its roots in birthday celebrations2.What does the coin in vasilopita signify for its receiver in the New Year?A.Trust.B.Success.C.Health.D.Togetherness.3.The author explains the role of food in celebrations by ______.ing examplesB.making comparisonsC.analyzing causesD.describing processes4.What is the passage mainly about?A.The custom of sharing food.B.The specific meaning of food.C.The role of food in ceremonies.D.The importance of food in culture.10、 Life can bring us down from time to time. At some point, you may find yourself in what you will consider as your darkest hour. As you try to find your way out of that bad situation t you should try to remind yourself that there is always still a reason to be grateful. If you look at your situation now and compare it with that of someone else who is in much deeper trouble than you, I am sure that you’ll find something to be thankful for. We all have our share of problems. But complaining about them only makes us blind to the fact that there are miracles happening around us every day. When all your needs are met, then you should be content and happy. If you have a roof over your head, some decent(像样的)clothes to wear, enough food on the table, a comfortable place to sleep in clean water to drink and you are free to make your own choices, then you should be happy and grateful. Many people around the world, especially those who are at war or those in very poor countries would give anything to be in your shoes.Even if you lose all your money or possessions and your heart is broken for some reason, as long as you are still alive and energetic, then every material thing you have lost can be regained again. If you have a few good friends to support or help you, then be glad because true friends are hard to find. As long as you have someone to love and someone to love you back, then you are a very fortunate person. Remember to be patient and trust that things will get better.1.What are we advised to do when life lets us down?A.To try to keep calm.B.To imagine a better future,C.To realize things could be worse.D.To fight against the bad situation bravely.2.What is the result of complaining about the bad situation?A.Ignoring something good.B.Creating a far worse situation.C.Taking everything for granted.D. Failing to share the pain with others.3.What does the underlined part ” in your shoes" in Paragraph 3 mean?A.In your honor.B. On your behalf.C. In your situation.D. In touch with you.4.Which can be the best title for the text?A.Patience is a virtueB.Why you should be gratefulC.How to deal with hard timesD.A friend in need is a friend indeed11、 Conflict is on the menu tonight at the cafe La Chope. This evening, as on every Thursday nigh t, psychologist Maud Lehanne is leading two of France’s favorite pastimes, coffee drinking and the “talking cure”. Here they are learning to get in touch with their true feelings. It isn’t always easy. The customers-some thirtyParisians who pay just under $2 (plus drinks) per session-are quick to intellectualize(高谈阔论), slow to open up and connect. “You are forbidden to say ‘one feels,’ or ‘people think’,”Lehanne told them. “Say ‘I think,’ ‘Think me’.”A cafe society where no intellectualizing is allowed? It couldn’t seem more un-French. But Lehanne’s psychology cafe is about more than knowing oneself: It’s trying to help the city’s troubled neighborhood cafes. Over the years, Parisian cafes have fallen victim to changes in the French lifestyle—longer working hours, a fast-food boom and a younger generation’s desire to spend more time at home. Dozens of new theme cafes appear to change the situation. Cafes focused around psychology, history, and engineering are catching on, filling tables well into the evening. The city’s “psychology cafes”, which offer great comfort, are among the most popular places. Middle-aged homemakers, retirees, and the unemployed come to such cafes to talk about love, anger, and dreams with a psychologist. And they come to Lehann e’s group just to learn to say what they feel. “There’s a strong need in Paris for communication,” says Maurice Frisch, a cafe La Chope regular who works as a religious instructor in a nearby church. “People have few real friends. And they need to open up.” Lehanne says she’d like to see psychology cafes all over France. “If people had normal lives, these cafes wouldn’t exist,” she says. “If life weren’t a battle, people wouldn’t need a special place just to speak.” But then, it wouldn’t be France.1.What are people encouraged to do at the cafe La Chope?A.Learn a new subject.B.Keep in touch with friends.C.Show off their knowledge.D.Express their true feelings.2.How are cafes affected by French lifestyle changes?A.They are less frequently visited.B.They stay open for longer hours.C.They have bigger night crowds.D.They start to serve fast food.3.What are theme cafes expected to do?A.Create more jobs.B.Supply better drinks.C.Save the cafe business.D.Serve the neighborhood.4.Why are psychology cafes becoming popular in Paris?A.They bring people true friendship.B.They give people spiritual support.C.They help people realize their dreams.D.They offer a platform for business links.12、 Research shows that childhood friendships are important indicators of future success and social adjustment. Children’s relationships with peers (同龄人)strongly influence their success in school, and children with fewer friends are more at risk of dropping out of school, becoming depressed and other problems.Making and Keeping Friends Is More than Child's PlayWhen 6-year-old Rachel returned to school on a recent Monday morning, her eyes immediately scanned the playground for her friend Abbie. "Though they were only separated by a weekend, the girls ran right into each other’s arms and hugged,’’recalls Rachel’s mother Kathryn Willis of Gilbert. “It was like a scene from a movie.,,Most parents instinctively (本能地)know that having friends is good for their child. Experts agree that friendship is not simply child's play, but a powerful predictor of social adjustment throughout life.A Skill for Life“Childhood friendships serve as a very important training ground for adulthood,”says Dr. Robbie Adler-Tapia,psychologist with the Centre for Children’s Health Life Development at the East Valley Family Resource Centre.Researcher William Hartup stales,44Peer relations contribute significantly to both social and cognitive (认知的)development.” Hartup concludes that the single。

语 篇 提 能 阅读理解 A (2014·吉林高二检测) It's 5:00 in the morning when the alarm (闹钟) rings in my ears. I roll out of bed and walk blindly through the dark into the bathroom. I turn on the light and put on my glasses. The house is still as I walk downstairs while my husband and three kids sleep peacefully. Usually I go for a long run, but today I choose my favorite exercise DVD, Insanity. Sweat pours down my face and into my eyes. My heart races as I face my body to finish each movement. As I am near the end of the exercise, I feel extremely tired, but a smile is on my face. It's not a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit. Some people enjoy shopping, smoking, food, work, or even chocolate. But I need exercise to get through each day. Some shake heads when they see me run through the town. Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother's chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my “no thank you,” or by my choice to have a salad. Over the years, I have learned it's okay to just say “no.” I shouldn't feel sorry for refusing food that I don't want to eat. So what drives me to roll out of bed at 5:00 a.m.? What gives me the reason to just say “no” to ice cream? Commitment. A commitment to change my life with a way that reduces daily anxiety, increases self-confidence and energy, extends life and above all improves my body shape. This is the point where a smile appears on my face as I look at myself in the mirror or try on my favorite pair of jeans that now fit just right. It's through commitment and sweat that I can make a difference within myself inside and out. 1.Why is there a smile on the author's face in the morning? A. Because she sees her family sleeping peacefully. B. Because she finishes her favorite exercise. C. Because she enjoys the interesting DVD. D. Because she feels a sense of achievement. 答案与解析 D 细节理解题。由第一段最后一句“It's not a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit.”可知作者脸上的微笑是一种成功的微笑,因为自己挑战了身

体的极限。 2.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2? A. She doesn't treat others politely. B. She likes to make others surprised. C. Others don't understand what she does. D. Others try to help her by offering her food. 答案与解析 C 推理判断题。由第二段“Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother's chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my ‘no thank you,’”可以推断出别人不太

理解作者的所作所为。 3.What does the underlined word “commitment” in the last paragraph mean? A. Good health. B. Firm belief. C. A strong power. D. A regular habit. 答案与解析 B 词义猜测题。由画线词后面的句子可知画线词意为

“坚信”。 4.What can we learn about the author from the text? A. She acts in a strange way. B. She wants to look different from others. C. She aims to develop a good body shape. D. She has difficulty getting along with others. 答案与解析 C 细节理解题。由最后一段中“above all improves my

body shape.”可知作者加强锻炼,克制饮食的目的是为了保持好的体形。 B Even though we have more choices of what to eat than forty years ago, the average diet of the average British is less healthy. In fact, according to recent research, British pets, eating specially prepared tinned food, have a healthier diet than most of their owners. Health ministers were shocked at recent figures which show that Britain has the third worst record in Europe for heart disease. Cancer is also a growing cause of illness and death. This has led to the government's movement to encourage healthier eating habits. Health ministers believe we should take a lesson from America, where death rates from heart disease have fallen. The American public is now realizing the link (联系) between the diet and good health. The movement will encourage the eating of less animal fat, salt and sugar that are eaten at present. It will show the goodness of eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. The Health Department is going to publish a book which will give help on what food to eat and what not to. Discussions are being held between the government and food makers. Following these talks, food will be labeled (贴标签) so that users can clearly see how much fat, sugar there is in the food products they buy.
