Getting to Know the W orld Outside the Campus

As the society advances, it is essential for us college students to get to know the world outside the campus. Firstly, enlarges our scope of knowledge. Secondly, it prepares us for entering the society. Finally, it makes us more aware of our duty as college students and thus stimulates us to work harder.

There are many ways for us to know the outside world. To begin with, we can watch TV, read newspapers or listen to radio. In this way, we can keep ourselves well-informed of what is going on home and abroad. Nest, we can take part in such social practices as conducting a survey and participating in community projects. These will reward us with much experience. With which we will serve the society better when we enter it .

As a college student in the modern age, I will get myself out of the ivory tower and into the real world. On one hand, I will read more frequently the newspaper so as to keep myself abreast of current affairs. On the other, I plan to find a part-time job like being a tutor or a waiter. Harmfulness of Fake Commodities

Nowadays, the market in China is swarming with fake commodities such as foodstuff, clothing, and even medicine. For one thing, our country is in its transitional stage, and the discrepancy between the rich and the poor is strikingly great. Some people envy the millionaires so much that they simply take chances to produce or sell fake goods. For another, the corresponding laws to punish such unlawful acts lag far behind, and the existing punishment is not severe enough to deter the violators.

Fake commodities are harmful to customers as well as the society. Take for example the 1998 alcohol case in Shan’xi Province. A peasant, desperate to amass mo ney overnight, added methanol to water, and thus produced liquors. The incident was a disaster to the consumers: over twenty were killed, and several hundred were poisoned. At the same time, it brought about much cost to the society to save those who had d runk such liquors. What’s more, the carry-over of the fear left people throughout the country confused and panic: they no longer have a sense of safety.
