Unit 1 Stay Healthy.

Lesson 1 What’s wrong, Danny?

1. Analysis of the Students

The students of Grade 9 have mastered certain vocabularies,expressions and structures. They also have the abilities of self-teaching and working in groups. Most of them are willing to express their opinions in English.

2. Analysis of Teaching Content

Lesson 1 is the first lesson in Unit 1, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject staying healthy. Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 1 mainly talks about the story that Danny’s stomach hurts and to see the doctor. It also tells us an old saying: Don’t eat too much, keep healthy.

Attention:

wake up是一个由动词和副词构成的词组。当其宾语是名词时,名词可以放在wake up中间,也可以在wake up的后面;但当宾语是代词时,代词必须放在wake up中间。

Please wake him up! 请把他叫醒!

Wake up the boy. (= Wake that boy up.) 叫醒那个男孩。

When they arrive at the hospital, Danny’s father talks with a nurse.

arrive at到达,经过努力达到

He arrived at my hometown yesterday.

他昨天到了我的家乡。

They arrived at a decision after much thought at last.

Attention:

arrive in后一般接表示大地方的名词;arrive at后一般接表示小地方的名词。

reach, get to与arrive at/in的区别

三者都有“到达”之意。所不同的事,reach是及物动词,后面可直接接表示地点的名词。get 加上to,即get to才是“到达”的意思。arrive为不及物动词,要加上介词at/in才能接表示地点的名词。

--I reached /got to /arrived in Hangzhou yesterday evening. 我是昨天晚上到的杭州。

When she reached /got to/arrived at the shop, she found the shop was closed. 当他到达商店时,他发现门关了。

Look it up in a dictionary. 在字典里查一下。

When you do not understand a word, you can look it up in this book. 当你不懂一个单词时,可以查这本书。

Can you look up a dictionary? 你会查词典吗?

Attention:

look up是由动词look和副词up构成的词组。如果他的宾语是一个名词,名词可以放在look up之间,也可以放在look up的后面;但如果他的宾语是一个代词,代词必须放在look up 之间。

Extension:

look up的其他用法:a.好转:Things are looking up! 情况正在好转!

b.寻访到,探访(某人)

Lesson 2 mainly talks about Wang Mei’s visit to the dentist. It also tells us an old German saying: Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is. It can raise Ss’ interests easily.

be afraid of害怕……,后跟名词、代词或动名词,表示害怕会发生某事或某情况,相当于be scared of.

(2)“I’m afraid+从句”表示“我恐怕……”,常用来表达不愿发生的事情。

I’m afraid I can’t go there with you.我恐怕不能和你一起去那儿。

since为连词,意为“自从……以来”,与现在完成时连用,其后可跟句子,也可跟“时间段+ago”。

have no choice but to do sth.意为“除了做某事以外,别无选择”或“只好做某事”。

I have no choice but to give up.

我没有办法,只好放弃。

Fortunately, the dentist, Dr. Hu , was very kind.

fortunately为副词,意为“幸运地”,其同义词为luckily,反义词为unfortunately/unluckily,其形容词形式是fortunate。fortunately多用作插入语,比luckily更具强调性。

She saw right away that I was scared and told me not to worry.

right away意为“立刻,马上”,其同义短语有:at once , in a minute/moment。

scared为形容词,意为“对……感到恐惧的,害怕……的”。主语通常是人,指人对某事恐惧/害怕。be scared of…意为“对……感到害怕”。

Before I knew it, my aching tooth was fixed.

aching为形容词,意为“疼痛的”,它是由ache去-e加后缀- ing构成的形容词。

pain, ache

(1)pain既可指一般疼痛,又可指剧痛。疼痛范围可以是全身或局部,时间可长可短。

(2)ache指人体内部或外部的某一器官感觉上较持久的疼痛。常与head/tooth/stomach/back等表示身体部位的词连用,构成合成词。

was fixed是被动语态形式。当谓语动词与主语之间是动宾关系时,句子就用被动语态。被动语态中谓语动词为“be+过去分词”。fix的过去分词在词尾直接加上- ed。

not…at all意为“一点儿也不,根本不”。

I don’t know about it at all.

be used to do sth.意为“被用来做某事”,属于被动语态结构。

fine是形容词,常用来表示身体好,天气晴朗。

nice形容词,常指取悦于感官的事物,含有感情色彩的好。

too, much too与too much

too用在形容词或副词前,如:

He is too careless in doing anything. 他做任何十多太粗心了。

much too太,much too的中心词是too, much修饰too,用以加强语气。

Too much的中心词是much,too修饰much以加强语气。Too much修

饰不可数名词,意为more than enough与too many相对,后者修饰可

数名词。

start与begin: 两者都可以作“开始”解。begin指“开始”某一行动或进程,与end相对;start而动作性较强,着重于“开始”或“着手”这一点,带有突然开始的意思,其反义词为stop。

这是一个义动词开头的祈使句。Let’s是let us的缩写形式,表示建议。us意为“我们”,放在动词后作宾语。
