Quality Control Fundamentals质量控制基本原理

Quality质量

Quality has become one of the most important consumer decision factors in the selection among competing products and services. The phenomenon is widespread, regardless of whether the consumer is an individual, an industrial organization, a retail store, a bank or financial institution, or a military defense program. Consequently, understanding and improving quality are key factors leading to business success, growth, and enhanced competitiveness. There is a substantial return on investment from improved quality and from successfully employing quality as an integral part of overall business strategy.

We may define quality in many ways. Most people have a conceptual understanding of quality as relating to one or more desirable characteristics that a product or service should possess. Although this conceptual understanding is certainly a useful starting point, we will give a more precise and useful definition.

Quality---- characteristic or property consisting of several well-defined technical and aesthetic, hence subjective, considerations; conformance to design (customer) requirement.

The traditional definition of quality is based on the viewpoint that products and services must meet the requirement of those who use them. Therefore, Quality means fitness for use.

There are two general aspects of fitness for use: quality of design and quality of conformance.

Quality by design intent refers to the various grades or levels of quality that are intentionally determined by design. All goods and services are produced in various

grades or levels of quality. These variations in grades or levels of quality are intentional, and, consequently, the appropriate technical term is quality of design.

Quality of conformance refers to how well the product conforms to specifications required by design.

Quality of conformance is influenced by a number of factors, including

the choice of manufacturing processes, the training and supervision of the workforce, the types of process controls, tests, and inspection activities that

are employed, the extent to which these procedures are followed, and the motivation of the workforce to achieve quality.

Unfortunately, this definition has become associated more with the conformance aspect of quality than with design. This is in part due to the lack

of formal education most designers and engineers receive in quality

engineering methodology. This also leads to much less focus on the customer

and more of a “conformance-to-specifications” approach to quality, regardless

of whether the product, even when produced to standards, was actually

“fit-foruse” by the customer. Also, there is still a widespread belief that quality

is a problem that can be dealt with solely in manufacturing, or that the only

way quality can be improved is by “gold-plating” the product.

We prefer a modern definition of quality:Quality is inversely

proportional to variability. Note that this definition implies that if variability in

the important characteristics of a product decreases, the quality of the product increases. As an example of the operational effectiveness of this definition, a

few years ago, one of the automobile companies in the United States

performed a comparative study of a transmission that was manufactured in a domestic plant and by a Japanese supplier.

An analysis of warranty claims and repair costs indicated that there was a

striking difference between the two sources of production, with the

Japanese-produced transmission having much lower costs, as shown in Fig.

5.1. As part of the study to discover the cause of this difference in cost and performance, the company selected random samples of transmissions from

each plant, disassembled them, and measured several critical quality characteristics.

Figure 5.2 is generally representative of the results of this study. Note that

the distribution of the critical characteristics for the transmissions

manufactured in the United States takes up about 75% of the width of the specifications, implying that very few nonconforming units would be

produced. In fact, the plant was producing at a quality level that was quite

good, based on the generally accepted view of quality within the company. However, the Japanese plant produced transmissions for which the same

critical characteristics take up only about 25% of the specification band. As a result, there is considerably less variability in the critical quality

characteristics of the Japanese-built transmissions in comparison to those built

in the United States.

There are two obvious questions here: Why did the Japanese do this? How did they do this? The answer to the “why” question is obvious from examination of Fig.

5.1. Reduced variability has directly translated into lower costs。Furthermore, the Japanese-built transmissions shifted gears more smoothly, ran more quietly, and were generally perceived by the customer as superior to those built domestically. Fewer repairs and warranty claims means less rework and the reduction of wasted time, effort, and money. Thus, quality truly is inversely proportional to variability.

How did the Japanese do this? The answer lies in the systematic and effective use of the methods described in this text.

Dimensions of Quality质量维度

The quality of a product can be described and evaluated in several ways. It is often very important to differentiate these different dimensions of quality.Garvin provides an excellent discussion of eight components or dimensions of quality. Quality improvement is the reduction of variability in processes and products. Excessive variability in process performance often results in waste. For example, consider the wasted money, time, and effort that is associated with the repairs represented in Figure 5.1. Therefore, an alternate and frequently very useful definition is that quality improvement is the reduction of waste.

Every product possesses a number of elements that jointly describe what the user or consumer thinks of as quality. These parameters are often called quality characteristics.

Quality characteristics –- Physical; Sensory;Time Orientation; can be attributes or variable.

Quality always has been an integral part of virtually all products and services. However, our awareness of its importance and the introduction of formal methods for quality control and improvement have been an evolutionary development. Table 5.1 presents a timeline of some the important milestones in this evolutionary process.

Total Quality Management (TQM)全面质量管理

Total quality management (TQM) is a strategy for implementing and managing quality improvement activities on an organization wide basis. TQM began in the early 1980s, with the philosophies of Deming and Juran as the focal point. It evolved into a broader spectrum of concepts and ideas, involving participative organizations and work culture, customer focus, supplier quality improvement, integration of the quality system with business goals, and many other activities to focus all elements of the organization around the quality improvement goal. Typically, organizations that have implemented a TQM approach to quality improvement have quality councils or

high-level teams that deal with strategic quality initiatives, workforce-level teams that focus on routine production or business activities, and cross-functional teams that address specific quality improvement issues.

高考英语翻译技巧与能力训练 高考英语中的翻译(中译英)题要求考生能应用所学过的语法和词汇来准确地表达思想,是一种要求相当高的考查形式。要求考生把中文的句子译成通顺的、语法结构正确的、符合英语表达习惯的英语句子,并能准确地传达中文句子中的每一个信息。该题型全面地考查学生英语词汇、语法等知识的综合运用能力,它对学生的动词时态、语态、名词的单复数、冠词、形容词、副词、介词等应用能力,还对学生的词组、句型、句子结构等进行了全面考查。翻译不仅在高考英语主观题中占不小的比例,而且翻译能力还直接影响考生在作文中的表现。 高考评分标准: 1.每题中单词拼写、标点符号、大小写错误每两处扣一分;2.语法错误(包括时态错误)每处扣一分;3.译文没用所给的单词扣一分。 如何才能提高中译英水准,在高考中获得理想的分数呢?考生除了必须具备比较扎实的语言基础外,关键还在于学会总结规律,找准中译英的切入点。 一、分析句子结构、寻找合适的句型 中文必须仔细读,一定要看的就是题目给我们的关键字或关键的词组,也就是我们常说的key words。尤其是最后两句翻译句子,它们大都在句子结构上提高了难度。读什么?读出句子结构:对于简单句,辨别出主谓宾,分清定语、同位语和状语;对于并列句,记住两个语法意义上独立的分句,须由连词连接起来;对于复合句,须区分定语从句,名词性从句以及状语从句。一般来说,中译英的句型可分为三大类:1.简单句;2.并列句;3.复合句;同时我们也要注意非谓语动词及其他一些特殊结构。回顾近几年的高考试题时,也不难发现试题中考了一些特殊句式。如:It句型(近几年考得较为频繁)、倒装句、with结构。 例1: 昨天我的电脑坏了。(wrong) 解析:本题考查:1)简单句There be结构;2)wrong的用法;3)中英文表达的差异。 译句:There was something wrong with my computer yesterday. 例2: 遇到困难的时候,我们需要的不是彼此埋怨,而是互相帮助。(not…but) 解析:本题考查:1)复合句:when引导的状语从句;what引导的主语从句;2)not…but结构;3)“彼此埋怨”的英文翻译。 译句:When(we are)in difficulty/When we meet with difficulties/When we have difficulties ,what we need is not to blame each other but to help each other. 例3:我们能做什么来阻止这种疾病蔓延呢?(prevent) 分析:如果有学生没有读全中文原句的话,就很有可能看成是以前所做的“我们要做些什么来阻止这种疾病的蔓延”,而译为We should do something to prevent the spread of this disease.因为这个原因而造成扣分,就太不应该了。 译句:What can we do to prevent the spread of this disease? 例4:他很有可能通过自己的努力得到驾驶执照。(likely) 译句:He is likely to get the driving license with his own efforts. 分析:有些学生一看到有可能,就会想到自己比较熟悉的possible,想当然地翻译成It is possible that…的结构。其实,学生对likely这个key word的使用也是会的,完全能够使用be likely to do或It’s likely th at…的结构。 例5:上海近几年经历了许多变化,如今已成为世界闻名的经济中心。(go through) 分析:乍一看,学生很容易轻易下笔,Shanghai has gone through…,it has become…,这已成为很多学生的一个习惯,句子和句子中随便用逗号隔开,英语不像中文,必须要考虑到句子的结构,逗号也不能随意使用。而此句中,就要想到用并列句中的连接词and来连接两个成分。

翻译是把一种语言里已经表达出来的事物用另一种语言准确流畅地进行重新表达的过程。与其他题材的文章相比,科技专业文章在内容、表达形式和风格上有很大的差别,具有科技性强、专业性强、逻辑严密、表达要求简练的特点,在翻译上力求准确全面、严谨明确和通顺简练。 1科技英语翻译遵循的基本原则 从科技文章的特点来看,大多具有以下几个特征:述说事理、逻辑性强、结构严密、术语繁多,语言严谨、数据精确。这就要求译文必须概念清楚、条理分明、逻辑正确、数据无误,尤其对定义、定律、公式、图表、结论等更应特别注意。科技英语作为特殊英语的一个分支,在词汇构成、遣词造句等方面都有其自身的特点,其语法结构不十分严密、语言习惯和汉语也有不少差别、词汇量大、词语繁多,因此科技英语翻译起来比较困难。另外,科技文章比较重视叙事逻辑上的连贯及表达上的明晰与畅达; 避免行文晦涩,避免表露个人感情,避免论证上的主观随意性。因此,科技英语翻译力求少用或不用描述性形容词以及具有抒情作用的副词、感叹词及疑问词,而是大量使用科技词汇、专业技术用语,译者应尊重客观事实,不能随意改动数据、回避不易翻译的文字,更不能加进自己的主观想象,进行自由翻译。 我国著名翻译家严复提出的“信、达、雅”三准则一直为不少翻译工作者所接受。 “信”指的是译文要忠实于原文,“达”是指译文的通顺达意,“雅”指的是译文的用词修辞。三准则体现了译文和原文信息等值这一基本要领。 “信、达、雅”的翻译准则对各种英语文体的翻译实践都具有指导意义,是衡量一篇译文好坏的标准,也同样适用于科技文献的翻译。由于科技文章特有的文体特征,与其他类文章相比,其“达”和“雅”的内涵不同,它要求在准确传达信息的基础上,使译文更加简洁明快,流畅通顺。2科技英语翻译的基本方法

1.结论与讨论 应用泡沫金属子弹撞击加载的方式研究了泡沫铝夹芯梁和单层梁的抗冲击性能,分 别讨论了子弹冲量、面板厚度和芯层厚度对夹芯梁抗冲击性能的影响。得到了梁后面板 中心点的最终挠度与加载冲量的关系,并将实验结果与理论预测相比较,结论如下:(1)泡沫金属子弹撞击加载下,夹芯梁的变形主要集中在子弹作用的中心区域。前 面板主要表现为子弹作用区域的压缩变形,其失效模式分为压入失效和侵彻失效;芯层 的变形根据破坏程度的不同可分为加载中心区域的压缩变形和接近固支端的无压缩变形;后面板的变形为非弹性大变形,中心点挠度最大,与板不同的是未观察到明显的花 瓣形变形。 (2)参数研究结果表明,泡沫铝夹芯梁后面板中心点的最终挠度随着加载冲量的增 大而增大,且呈指数函数变化。研究范围内,最终挠度随着面板厚度的增加线性减少, 但也出现了面板厚度较大的夹芯梁的最终挠度大于面板厚度较小的夹芯梁的情况,这可 能是由于脱胶或泡沫材料的不均匀性造成的。芯层厚度与夹芯梁抗冲击性能密切相关, 增加芯层厚度能显著地提高夹芯梁的抗冲击能力。 (3)实验结果与理论预测比较后发现,冲量较大时吻合较好,实验挠度处于理论预 测的内、外屈服轨迹内;冲量较小时却存在一定的差异,这可能是泡沫材料的不均匀性 及理论预测中过高估计了弯曲和拉伸共同作用阶段的影响产生的。 (4)通过一定范围的冲量研究表明,与等质量的单层梁相比,泡沫铝夹芯梁具有较高的抗冲击能力和明显的结构优势。 Conclusion and discussion The way of using foam metallic projectiles impact load studies the shock resistance of sandwich beams with core of aluminuim foam and单层梁,and respectively discusses the effects of projectile impulse, face sheets thickness and the thickness of core on the shock resistance of sandwich beams. The relationship between the final deflection of the central point of梁后面板and加载冲量is attained. The result of the experiment is compared with the theoretical prediction. The conclusions are: (1)In the situation of foam metallic projectiles impact load, the deformation of sandwich beams mainly located in the central area where the projectiles are working. The front face sheet mainly shows the compression deformation of the area where the projectiles are working,and its failure modes can be divided into: indenting failure and pitting failure. According to the different damage degree of the芯层deformation, it can be divided into 加载中心区域的压缩变形and接近固支端的无压缩变形. The back face sheet shows large inelastic deformation and its deflection of the central point is the biggest. Obvious 花瓣形deformation isn’t observed, which is different from the sheet. (2)The result of parameter study shows that the central point deflection of sandwich beams with core of aluminuim foam back face sheet increases with the increase in 加载冲量and it changes in exponential function. Within the study field,the final deflection decreases线性地with the increase in the thickness of the face sheets, but it also appears the situation that the final deflection of 面板厚度较大的夹芯梁is larger than面板厚度较小的夹芯梁. This is probably due to 脱胶或泡沫材料的不均匀性. The thickness of 芯层and the shock resistance of夹芯梁is closely related. Increasing the thickness of 芯层can notably improve the shock resistance of 夹芯梁.
