[A](give)thought (to) 想过,思考 [B](give sb. an/some)idea(of)使了解…… [C](have a good/bad)opinion (of) 对…… Teachers need to be aware of(教师应该注意)和And they also need to give serious 1 to(同时他们须认真……)。注意第二句中的两个they分别指代了第一句中的teachers和young adults,第二句中的give serious 1 to与第一句中的be aware of(知道,意识到)也应在意义上相呼应。 I gave much thought to what he said yesterday.(我对他昨天说的那番话做了许多思考);T he book gives you a good idea of life in ancient Greece. (这本书能让你对古希腊的生活有一些了解);Everyone has a poor opinion of a coward.(每个人对懦夫的印象都不好);Now I want to give you some advice. such changes在这里指的是第一句提到的the emotional, intellectual, and physical changes。

The American spymaster who built the Office of Strategi c Services i n the World W ar Ⅱand l ater l aid the roots for the CIA was fasci nated wi th information. Donovan believed in using whatever tool s came to hand i n the "great game"of espionage — spying as a "profession". These days the Net, whi ch has already re-made such everyday pastimes as buying books and sending mail, i s reshaping Donovan's vocation as well. The l atest revolution i sn't simply a matter of gentl emen reading other gentl emen's e-mail. That kind of el ectroni c spying has been going on for decades. In the past three or four years, the W orld Wide W eb has given birth to a whol e industry of point-and-cli ck spying. The spooks call it "open-source intelligence", and as the Net grows, i t i s becoming i ncreasingl y influenti al. In 1995 the CIA held a contest to see who could compil e the most data about Burundi. The winner, by a l arge margin, was a tiny Vi rgini a company call ed Open Source Solutions, whose cl ear advantage was its mastery of the el ectroni c world. Among the firms making the biggest spl ash in thi s new world is Straitford, Inc., a private intelligence-analysi s firm based in Austin, T exas. Strai tford makes money by selling the resul ts of spying (covering nations from Chile to Russi a) to corporations like energy-servi ces fi rm McDermott International. Many of i ts predi ctions are avail abl e online at https://www.360docs.net/doc/dd3465842.html,. Straiford president G eorge Fri edman says he sees the online world as a kind of mutually rei nforcing tool for both information collection and distribution, a spymaster's dream. Last week hi s firm was busy vacuuming up data bits from the far corners of the world and predi cting a cri sis in Ukraine. "As soon as that report runs, we'll suddenly get 500 new Internet sign-ups from Ukraine," says Fri edman, a former political sci ence professor. "And we'll hear back from some of them." Open-source spying does have i ts ri sks, of course, since it can be diffi cul t to tell good information from bad. That's where Strai tford earns its keep. Fri edman reli es on a l ean staff of 20 i n Austin. Several of hi s staff members have military-intelligence backgrounds. He sees the firm's outsider status as the key to its success. Straitford's bri efs don't sound like the usual W ashington back-and-forthing, whereby agenci es avoid dramatic decl arations on the chance they might be wrong. Strai tford, says Fri edman, takes pride in its independent voi ce. 41. The emergence of the Net has ________.
