Or maybe40universes exist, pressed tightly against each other.Getting an idea of the universe’s true shape may help astronomers find out whether it has an edge. What comes after that could be an even great mystery.Section ADirections:For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A,B,C and D.Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.Back in1930,the economist John Maynard Keynes predicted that with technological change and improvements in productivity,we’d only be working15hours a week by now.But while working hours have41by26%,most of us still average42.5hours a week. One of the things Keynes underestimated is the human desire to42with our peers—a drive that makes most of us work more than we need to.“We don’t measure productivity by how much we’ve harvested anymore,”says Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, visiting scholar at Stanford University.“Overworking has been part of Western society since the Industrial Revolution. When some predicted that automation would create an extra amount of43time,needless to say, that didn’t happen.”Thanks to computerization and globalization in the1980s,managers could demand more of employees under the 44that jobs could be given to someone else.So the45piled on.And we took it,exhausted, but taking up the burden all the same. The psychologist Barbara Killinger writes in Workaholics:The Respectable Addicts about how we 46sacrifice our own well-being through overwork for“success”.But far from delivering productivity, value,or personal fulfilment, overwork has been proven to lead to burnout, stress, greater risk of heart disease and even shorter lifespans.47,we carried on—until COVID-19came along.Besides making us work longer hours from home,COVID-19has also48the move towards the adoption of automated machine, especially for jobs requiring much interpersonal contact—from Amazon developing delivery drones (无人机)to self-driving cars.By2050,Michael Osborne,a professor of machine learning at the University of Oxford, predicts that at least40%of current jobs will be lost to49.There are50.Jobs that involve complex social interactions are beyond current robot skills:so teaching, social care, nursing and counselling are all likely to51the AI revolution. As are jobs that rely on creativity. The same also goes for52jobs,according to Osborne, due to the large number of different objects cleaners encounter and the variety of ways those objects need to be dealt with.Interestingly, areas of the workplace traditionally dominated by women won’t be so easily adopted by AI.Robots are unlikely to53in the“work”of taking care of children, preparing lunchboxes and doing the laundry. Those whose work falls outside the caring, cleaning or creative field will still work in future,just54.In about 60%of occupations,it is estimated that a third of the tasks can be automated, meaning changes to the way we work.A large-scale study has predicted that over the next20years,although7million jobs will be taken over by AI,7.2million new ones will be55as a result. So we will work in future:we just don’t know what we’ll be doing yet.41.A.declined B.increased C.continued D.kept42.A.disagree pete C.cooperate D.identify43.A.working B.tough C.leisure D.active44.A.fantasy B.influence C.threat D.impression45.A.joy B.cash C.ambition D.pressure46.A.excitedly B.willingly C.dramatically D.hopefully47.A.Otherwise B.Still C.Furthermore D.Therefore48.A.speeded up B.followed up C.prepared for D.planned for49.A.overwork bour C.automation D.science50.A.dreams B.models C.expectations D.exceptions51.A.cause B.cease C.survive D.undergo52.A.caring B.cleaning C.curing D.coaching53.A.assist B.exist C.believe D.understand54.A.hardly B.differently C.unfortunately D.probably55.A.lost B.recovered C.substituted D.createdDirections:Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.(A)1I was always a reader.2As a kid,I walked to the library several times a week and checked out so many books and returned them so quickly that the librarian once snapped,“Don’t take home so many books if you’re not going to read them all!”3“But I did read them all,”I said.4But I had stopped reading gradually.I joined book clubs that I never attended.I requested a library book everyone was reading, only to return it a week late, unread, with fines.5Then I met David. When I asked him about his last book, his face lit up and his fingers danced.6David read much more than I did, about a book or two a week.He preferred history and nonfiction, while I loved fiction writers.7On our seventh date,David and I visited the library.8“I have a game,”he said, pulling two pens and Post-its out of his bag.“Let’s find books we’ve read and leave reviews in them for the next person.”9We wandered in the library for an hour.In the end,we sat on the floor among the poetry, and I read him some.He listened, then asked,“What is it you like about that one?”10That summer,as we picnicked outside,I said,“If I tell you something, will you not judge me?”David paused and raised his eyebrows.11“I’ve only read one book this year,”I said.12“But it’s June,”he said.13“I know.”14“Well,read a book!”15The next time I visited a bookstore, his charge to“read a book”echoed in my head.I picked up a book solely for its poetic title.16I had a hard time getting into it.The narrator was an old man.Whenever I was tempted to give up on it,I thought of David.I pushed through the first two chapters and discovered a new narrator in the third.I loved the alternating points of view.I carried the book to work.I read at lunch and on my walk home.17“How’s your day?”David texted.18“Good.A little tired,”I replied.“I stayed up late and finished my book.”19I tried to make it sound casual, but I was proud of myself. It was not a competition, but I felt him pushing me to be more of the person I used to be and more of who I wanted to be.20I asked David once what he liked about me.21He paused, then said,“I see the world as a more wonder-filled place with you.”22By the end of that year,David suggested we visit the library again. He asked if I remembered the game we played on our first visit.23“I remember,”I said.24He pulled a book from the shelf, dropped to one knee, and opened it.Inside, his Post-it read:“Karla,it has always been you. Will you marry me?”25His proposal had rested between the pages of The Rebel Princess for over a year.26“Yes,”I said.56.The word“snapped”(paragraph2)most probably means“_____”.A.talked to someone voluntarilyB.spoke to someone impatientlyC.gave someone a suggestionughed at someone heartlessly57.Which of the following may best illustrate the author’s reading habit when she first met David?A.Carrying books around without opening them.B.Only reading the books everyone recommended.C.Avoiding sharing books when going to book clubs.D.Often forgetting to return the books already read.58.According to paragraph19,why was the author proud of herself?A.She finished reading a book she didn’t like.B.She had read more books than David did.C.She did what she thought to be difficult.D.She had kept to her taste in poetic titles.59.What was the main change that David brought into the author’s life?A.He introduced a new library and a fun game to the author.B.He encouraged the author to read more fiction and poetry.C.He helped the author finish reading an entire book in a day.D.He motivated the author to rediscover her love for reading. Can you stand on one leg for10seconds?Balance could be a matter of life and death. The World Health Organization estimates that684,000fatal falls occur each year, making falling the second leading cause of unintentional injury death. Some of these falls are caused by more serious conditions–but many aren’t. According to George Locker,a long-term practitioner of tai chi,a loss of balance is a medical problem that can’t be treated with drugs or surgery, despite its effects.Increasingly, efforts are being made to remedy(补救)the balance problem among the groups already most affected by it.Tai chi, practiced by an estimated50million people in China,is an option.Studies have shown that as little as eight weeks of practice can improve older adults’scores on the Tinetti test—a commonly used measure of competence in basic tasks such as rising from a chair and walking—as well as reducing fear of falling.Longer periods of study show further benefits.Whatever activity you choose, the lesson is to work on your balance before you need to,not after it becomes an issue. As Locker puts it: everyone’s told to save money for their retirement, and nobody’s taught to save their balance. But both are difficult to get back once they’re gone.60.What does George Locker think of a lack of balance?A.It is costly to get treated with drugs and surgery.B.It is a minor issue that doesn’t affect one’s overall health.C.It is a problem without any medical solution.D.It is a problem that can be easily fixed by exercising.61.Which of the following best illustrates the Medium Level practice?A. B. C. D.62.What is the lesson conveyed in the passage regarding balance and health?A.Balance is the top leading cause of sudden death from injuries.B.It is essential for those affected by balance issues to seek help.C.Tai chi is the most effective way to improve one’s balance.D.It is wiser to work on balance as early as possible.Just15minutes a day of practice can be beneficial, but do more if you have time. Starting earlier helps:try the exercises below on a hard, level surface.Easy Level:Standing on one leg—with your hands resting on a work surface if you’re feeling unsteady—see how long you can maintain your balance.Do this one while you’re brushing your teeth. Medium Level:For this movement, start from standing and take a big step forwards, bending your front leg until your trailing knee just brushes the floor. Then push off your front leg and return to a standing position.Hard Level:Try step-ups on to a step or box:put one foot on to a box and push through that heel to step up so both feet end up together. To ensure you aren’t using your trailing leg to help, keep your toes off the ground on that foot. The concept of dynamic pricing is simple—and easy for businesses to implement.Whether it’s a Friday-evening flight,a hotel during the holidays,or a taxi ride in a downpour,we have all been burned by higher-than-normal prices due to excess demand.Raising costs when businesses are busiest is the norm across the travel industry.Perhaps the most well-known example of this is within ride-share companies, which have used surge pricing for years to charge riders when demand for cars rockets relative to the number of drivers available.Outside travel, online stores are increasingly using this dynamic pricing, too, says Vomberg.“On alone, millions of price changes occur within a day, corresponding to a price change of about every ten minutes for each product.”While consumers might not always pick up on these variations in price,Vomberg says time-based dynamic pricing will likely become a competitive standard at least in online markets.“AI-enabled tools can suggest the best prices via machine learning algorithms(算法).They can also track and learn competitor and customer responses to price changes,”he says. Now,surge pricing is happening in stores including bars and supermarkets as well.“Physical businesses are adopting electronic shelf labels that enable real time price adjustments depending on the time of day, stock levels and whether items are approaching their sell-by date,”says Sarwar Khawaja, chairman of the Oxford Education Group. He says this technology is likely to cause prices in bars that use these signs to increase during the rushes of dinner, weekends or holidays,or for supermarkets to adjust prices throughout the day or week, depending on volume of shoppers. The current economic climate is also driving the need for these pricing technologies. While creating competitive prices is always key to healthy profit margins,Khawaja says dynamic pricing enables businesses to optimise their pricing depending on the financial situations of their customer base.“Businesses can offer discounts during downturns, while increasing prices in better off areas,”he says. The changes, however, may not sit well with consumers.“Dynamic and surge pricing will likely expand to more industries and more companies in the long term, but just because a product may be popular does not mean that customers are willing to turn a blind eye to being charged more,”says Khawaja. He adds surge pricing can cause customers to lose faith in a company if they believe they are being overcharged.“Perhaps dynamic pricing of a drink in your favourite pub might be a step too far for loyal customers.”63.Which of the following best explains“dynamic pricing”in paragraph1?A.A system of deciding what the prices should be.B.A means for companies to find target customers.C.A method that helps promote sharing economy.D.A strategy of offering discounts to attract clients.64.It can be inferred from Arnd Vomberg’s comments that online stores__________.A.offer the most competitive pricesB.make profits by changing prices in real timeC.confuse customers by changing pricesD.rely too much on machine learning algorithms65.According to the passage, why do physical businesses adopt dynamic pricing?A.To match supply and demand during peak hours.B.To lift customer experience and encourage loyalty.C.To maintain consistent pricing across all products.D.To compete with online stores and businesses.66.Which of the following best predicts how customers may react to the expansion of dynamic pricing?A.Turn to whatever offers the lowest prices.B.Protest against it for being too annoying.C.Refuse to give in and are likely to resist.D.Take it for granted and accept it altogether.Directions:Read the passage carefully.Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once.Note that there are two more sentences than you need.A.Focus on the one thing you are doing.B.Habits like these which encourage you to multitask make you mentally exhausted and unproductive.C.Make sure that you also take breaks in your monotasking, because that’s what helps your brain to stay focused.D.So it’s a win-win for everyone!E.The little information we do take in when we’re multitasking is more difficult to remember at a later stage.F.You feel so good that you believe you’re being effective and further encourages your multitasking habit. Why Do You Find It So Hard to Not Multitask? Most of us do multitasking almost daily. But it’s time to change that.Your attention is already being pulled in millions of directions daily,so you really don’t need to add multitasking to the list.Let’s take the smartphone for example. On average you check your phone110times a day—that means you’re spending23days every year glued to your smartphone! How productive do you think that makes you?67But it’s hard to let go of these habits because you’ve conditioned your brain to send misleading signals to your body. Research has shown that when you multitask“successfully”,you activate the reward mechanism in your brain that releases dopamine, the happy hormone.68This rush can also make you overly optimistic, which means you are less careful about the work you do and more likely to make mistakes.Multitaskers basically get addicted to this rush which leads them to believe they are being effective when in fact they’re not.You can find healthier, more balanced dopamine releases through ticking things on your to-do list through mono-,or single-tasking too.Since our brains can only effectively focus on one thing at a time, this is the way for you to accomplish more in less time.Research has suggested you’re50%quicker on average to accomplish a task if you monotask, and you’re also50%less like to make errors.69You’ll also be able to appreciate things on a deeper level and get more enjoyment from them when you’re focused. If you’re chatting to a friend over coffee while checking your phone, you’re not making the most out of your time with your friend! Now you’re probably desperate to find out how to get rid of this multitasking habit so you can find real productivity. There is no easy answer. You simply have to commit to it and have the self-discipline to stick to one task at a time.Just say to yourself:When I walk,I walk. When I talk to someone,I talk to someone. When I read,I read. It’s as simple as that.70And like that, you’ve mastered monotasking.Directions:Read the following passage.Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than e your own words as far as possible.71.Will Plant-based Protein Continue to be an Appetizer in Food World?A good vegan milk needs to look like milk and taste like milk, whether it’s a fatty version, preferred by bakers,or a skimmed one, favored by the health-conscious.For years, manufacturers of plant-based protein have had trouble hacking this delicate imitation game and it seems that they are winning back a bit.The global revenues(收益)from alternative proteins could reach$290billion by2035and that is a cautious estimate. However, can it last?Unlike those early products, which were neither terribly tasty nor particularly nutritious, cleaver(剁肉刀) processing improves textures, additives boost taste and a pinch of specially engineered peas and beans adds nutrient in the latest products.Still,ultra-processed substitutes seldom match animal proteins in nutritional value.Animal products, including milk, are better for children’s bone development, though lab-grown versions of meat or dairy are becoming more nutritious.Meanwhile,green-minded consumers are realizing that plant-based does not necessarily mean sustainable in that it still takes a lot to obtain raw materials.Farming almonds(杏仁)to make a milk-like drink, for example, uses huge quantities of water.Plant-based proteins are also a tough sell in giant markets like India, where diets are already rich in plants and vegetables,or Nigera, where meat-eating is a sign of wealth. That limits their global appeal. All these suggests that alternative proteins have far to go to replace the animal kind. The limitations may be weighing on the firms involved.Oatly’s market value has fallen by about80%since its listing, partly because of production difficulties. That of Beyond Meat, whose burgers feature in McDonald’s latest menu,is down by90%from its peak.Plant-based foods may no longer be only an appetizer in diets, but their maker remain one in food business.Directions:Translate the following sentences into English, using the words given in the brackets.72.我听说你的表弟是个不折不扣的“社牛”,是吗?(hear)73.长颈鹿皮肤上橙棕色的斑点使它们可以在野外隐藏自己。

养狗的英语作文

养狗的英语作文Owning a dog is an experience that can bring immense joy and fulfillment to one's life. These loyal companions offer unconditional love, companionship, and a sense of security that few other things can match. In this essay, I will explore the various aspects of dog ownership, from theinitial decision-making process to the daily routines and long-term commitments involved.Firstly, deciding to bring a dog into one's family is a significant decision that requires careful consideration. Prospective dog owners must evaluate their lifestyle, living situation, and the amount of time they can commit to caring for a pet. Dogs come in various breeds, each with its own set of characteristics, energy levels, and needs. Researching and choosing the right breed that aligns with one's lifestyle is crucial.Once a dog becomes a part of the family, the responsibilities begin. Daily walks are essential for a dog's physical health and mental stimulation. This routine not only provides exercise but also strengthens the bond between the owner and the dog. Training is another important aspect that should start as soon as the dog arrives. Basic commands such as "sit," "stay," and "come" are not only useful but also contribute to a dog's good behavior. The financial aspect of dog ownership should not beoverlooked. Dogs require regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, and possibly grooming, depending on the breed. Unexpected health issues can also arise, and it's important to be prepared for these costs. Additionally, providing a safe and comfortable living environment, including proper toys and bedding, is part of ensuring a dog's well-being.Socialization is another key element in a dog's life. Exposing a dog to various people, animals, and environments helps to create a well-rounded and confident pet. This process should start early and be done gradually to avoid overwhelming the dog.Lastly, the emotional rewards of owning a dog are immeasurable. Dogs have a unique way of sensing their owner's emotions and can provide comfort during difficult times. Their playful nature can bring laughter and light-heartedness into everyday life. The loyalty and companionship a dogoffers can significantly enhance one's quality of life.In conclusion, owning a dog is a rewarding yet demanding commitment. It requires time, patience, financial planning, and a genuine love for animals. 狗狗安抚作文英文版英文:Dogs are amazing creatures that can provide comfort and solace to their owners. As a dog owner myself, I can attest to the fact that my furry friend has been a constant source of support and love in my life. When I am feeling down or stressed out, my dog has a way of sensing it and will come over to me and nuzzle me until I feel better. It's almostas if he knows exactly what I need. One of the ways that dogs can provide comfort isthrough their physical presence. Just having a dog nearby can have a calming effect on a person. Studies have shown that petting a dog can lower a person's heart rate andblood pressure, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety. This is why therapy dogs are becoming more and more popular in hospitals and nursing homes. They can provide comfortand companionship to patients who are going through adifficult time.Another way that dogs can provide comfort is through their unconditional love. Dogs don't judge their owners or hold grudges. They are always happy to see you and will greet you with wagging tails and wet kisses. This kind of love and acceptance can be incredibly healing, especially for people who may be going through a difficult time.In addition to providing comfort, dogs can also be trained to perform specific tasks that can help their owners. For example, some dogs are trained to detect changes in their owner's blood sugar levels, which can be incredibly helpful for people with diabetes. Other dogs are trained to assist people with disabilities, such as guiding the blind or alerting their owners to the presence of allergens.Overall, dogs are amazing creatures that can provide comfort and support to their owners in a variety of ways. Whether it's through their physical presence, unconditional love, or specialized training, dogs have a way of making our lives better.中文:狗狗是令人惊奇的动物,它们可以为主人提供安慰和慰藉。

烈性宠物伤人的事故频频被报道英语作文

烈性宠物伤人的事故频频被报道英语作文全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Dangers of Ferocious PetsMy name is Billy and I'm 10 years old. I love animals and really want to get a pet one day. But after reading about so many attacks by ferocious pets in the news, I'm starting to get scared. It seems like every week there are stories of vicious dogs mauling people or exotic snakes escaping and killing someone. What's going on?I think a lot of grownups are getting pets that are way too wild and dangerous to have at home. They see ferocious animals on TV or at zoos and think it would be cool to own one. But these beasts are not meant to live in houses and apartments with families. They are wild animals with powerful jaws, venomous bites, and killer instincts. One of the worst cases I read about was a couple in Ohio who owned a bunch of deadly snakes, alligators, and other scary reptiles. Can you imagine? Their house was like a jungle with all these scaly predators slithering around. Well, one night thesnakes got loose and killed the wife by crushing and biting her. The husband had to shoot one of the snakes to get it off his dying wife's body. How horrifying is that? Then there was the story in Connecticut about the lady who owned a 200-pound chimpanzee named Travis. She treated the chimp like a person, dressed him up in clothes and brought him everywhere. But chimps are not people, they are crazy strong animals that can turn aggressive in a split second. One day, Travis went totally berserk and ripped the face and hands off his owner's friend who had just arrived at the house. By the time police arrived, the crazed chimp had also badly mauled his owner. Ultimately, police had to shoot and kill the out-of-control animal.I love monkeys and think they are super funny and cute. But after what happened with Travis the chimpanzee, I would never want one as a pet. Chimps are unpredictable and can snap without warning. Their strength and sharp teeth make them way too dangerous to have around kids or really anyone.Unfortunately, it's not just exotic pets like snakes and primates that are causing serious injuries and deaths. Regular dog attacks by breeds like pit bulls happen every single day and the results are often tragic. Just a few weeks ago, a pack of roaming pit bulls broke into a woman's yard near myneighborhood and killed her two little lap dogs right in front of her. She tried to stop the attack but the pit bulls were so aggressive, they began biting her too until neighbors could beat them away with shovels. The poor woman is still recovering from her bite wounds in the hospital.Everyone knows pit bulls were originally bred for blood sports like bear-baiting and dogfighting. So it's no surprise they can be extremely ferocious and unpredictable. Still, many families get them as guard dogs or just because they look tough and intimidating. But too often, these muscular dogs turn on their owners, especially around kids when the pit bull's prey instincts kick in.Just last month, an 8-year-old boy was horrifically mauled by his family's pit bull terrier mix when he gave the dog a harmless hug. Within seconds, the dog bit huge chunks from the child's face and head. By the time the screaming parents could pull the dog off, the boy was permanently disfigured and may lose an eye. That's the risk you take by having an attack-bred dog around little kids.Even friendly dog breeds can unexpectedly snap and turn vicious though, especially if they aren't trained properly. My friend got his ear torn off by his neighbor's labrador retrieverafter just wandering into their yard. Now he has to wear a fake rubber ear that looks really silly.I know some dog lovers will say that owners are to blame for not training their pets better or keeping them confined. And it's true there are loads of very gentle, well-behaved dogs that never bite anyone. But why take the risk at all by owning a breed capable of inflicting devastating injuries with a single powerful bite? To me, it's just not worth the danger to have an animal in your home that could turn on you at any second if triggered.Lately, I've also noticed coyotes prowling around my neighborhood more and more, probably because their habitats are being taken over by housing developments. Just last week, a coyote attacked and severely injured a woman who was walking her dog on a trail behind our community. Animal control has encouraged people to stay inside after dark when the coyotes come out to hunt.So between vicious pet attacks, wild animal encounters, and all the deadly exotic animals that people foolishly try to keep as household companions, it's becoming a dangerous world for us regular kids just trying to go about our lives. I love dogs and most other animals, but I'm definitely going to think twice about getting any pet besides a cute little hamster when I get older. My parents always warn me to stay away from any dog that seems aggressive or is roaming the streets without an owner. I've learned to give animals their space and not approach them, even if they seem friendly. Because you never know when one of them might turn into a ferocious beast without warning.I hope communities can pass stricter laws about owning dangerous dog breeds and wild animals. Too many innocent people are being horribly injured or killed by these ferocious pets. At the very least, owners need to be more responsible about keeping their aggressive animals properly confined and trained. Animals are unpredictable and act on primal instincts that humans can't control. So we have to control them through strong regulations before more tragic maulings occur. That's my view as a 10-year-old kid just trying to feel safe walking around my own neighborhood. I don't want to live in constant fear of being attacked by someone's vicious pet any time I go outside. Hopefully grownups will start being smarter about the types of animals they bring into our communities before more people get hurt or killed. Because these ferocious pet incidents are getting way out of hand lately and kids like me shouldn't have to worry about being some wild beast's next victim.篇2Pets Attacking People - A Scary ProblemHi, my name is Billy and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to talk about a very serious problem - pets attacking and hurting people. It seems like every week there is a new story on the news about someone getting bit, scratched or even killed by a dog, cat or other animal that was supposed to be their friend and companion.Just last month, an 8-year-old girl in my town was badly injured when her family's pit bull terrier suddenly turned on her and started mauling her. The little girl needed over 100 stitches and had to go to the hospital. Her parents said the dog had never been aggressive before. But then one day, for some unknown reason, it just snapped and went berserk. How scary is that?Wild Animal InstinctsI think one of the main reasons pets sometimes attack is because they are just acting on their wild animal instincts that are still inside them. Dogs and cats used to be wild beasts, hunting to survive in the forests and jungles. Although we havetamed them as our "best friends", that savage side is always there, buried deep down.If a dog gets startled or thinks you are a threat to its territory or food, those feral, vicious tendencies can quickly resurface. Same with cats - they may seem sweet and cuddly, but those claws and fangs are designed to shred and kill prey. If they get overly excited or anxious, that killer instinct can come out in an instant.Poor TrainingAnother big cause of pet attacks is poor training by owners. Dogs need to be taught proper behavior from an early age through firm discipline and socialization. You can't just let them run wild with no boundaries or rules. If they are not trained to know their place in the pack and respect humans as the leaders, they won't have any self-control.A lot of times I think people get dogs, especially big powerful breeds, and don't know how to properly raise and handle them. The dogs end up becoming aggressive because they were never taught the right way to act. Improper training sets them up to be ticking time bombs waiting to explode.Bad BreedingInproper breeding can also lead to pets with violent, unstable personalities that are prone to lashing out. If dogs are badly inbred or bred just for looks without considering behavior, you can end up with neurotic, mentally ill animals. Their wiring gets all screwed up and they overreact to everything in aggressive ways.Careful, selective breeding with good moral breeders is so important to make sure you get a stable family pet, not a psycho fur missile! I feel really bad for the poor pups who are bred by shady breeders only looking to make a quick buck. Those dogs face a lifetime of struggles with their screwy brains and personalities.Cruel OwnersWhile some pet attacks are just unlucky situations where the animal snapped for no obvious reason, in a lot of cases the owners are to blame for being cruel, neglectful or abusive to their pets. If you treat a dog or cat horribly, smacking it around or leaving it caged up alone all the time, of course it is going to get vicious and resentful towards you.A mistreated animal sees humans as terrifying threats and starts operating in self-defense mode 24/7. It's always waiting for the next beating or punishment, so it decides to strike first inaggression. No one should be surprised when a severely abused pet lashes out - it's simply tragic that any animal has to live in those conditions of cruelty.Preventing the ProblemSo what can be done to stop these frightening attacks and make sure our furry friends stay reliably friendly? First off, if you are getting a pet, make sure you are fully prepared and committed to properly training it with love and patience. Don't just get a dog or cat on a whim without doing your research first on how to care for it.If you have kids, you need to teach them from day one how to gently interact with pets and read their body language for any signs of stress or aggression. Even very young children need to learn that pets are living creatures that can get scared or provoked into biting if you hurt them or don't treat them nicely. As owners, we have to be in charge and show our pets that we are the ones calling the shots through calm, assertive leadership. Pets need clearly defined rules and boundaries so they understand their place and don't try to become "alpha" over the human owners. At the same time, pets should never be harshly disciplined with cruelty or violence. Hitting a dog or cat will only reinforce its fears and aggressive tendencies. Positive reinforcement of good behavior works so much better than intimidation and abuse. If you suspect your pet was bred or raised in poor conditions that caused mental instability, be very cautious and alert around it at all times. An unstable animal can never be fully trusted not to snap into attack mode without warning. Muzzles or other protective gear may be necessary for the safety of you and others around an unpredictable pet.Lastly, owners need to be extremely responsible about properly containing their pets and not letting them roam free unsupervised. Way too many attacks happen because of dogs or cats getting loose and then encountering innocent bystanders who look like prey to the animal's wild brain. Keep your pets secured on leashes or behind fences at all times when outside. The Sad RealitiesAs much as we love our animal companions, we have to be honest - pets are still animals with wild natures that can never be 100% tamed or trusted, no matter how domesticated. There is always an inherent risk when bringing a dog, cat or other creature into close contact with humans. While responsible, humane training and treatment can minimize aggression, nothing can ever eliminate it altogether. Pets don't have human levels of reasoning - when their prey drives or self-preservation instincts are triggered, they revert to pure animalistic responses that often result in violence towards people. As unfortunate as it is, some individual pets that have tasted human blood or become hopelessly uncontrollable may need to be humanely euthanized before they seriously injure or kill someone. As much as that outcome hurts owners, public safety has to be the top priority when dealing with a proven dangerous animal that cannot be rehabilitated. The Bottom LinePets enriching our lives through companionship and cuteness is one of the joys of childhood. But we must always remember that underneath those soft furry exteriors, our beloved animal friends still possess the ability to seriously wound or even kill if their wild sides take over. Respect for their predatory natures through responsible ownership is crucial.I hope that by bringing more awareness to this issue of pets attacking humans, we can prevent more tragic incidents from occurring. Being prepared, educated owners who train ouranimal family members with both kindness and appropriate discipline is the key to allowing us and our furry pals to coexist together in safety and harmony.篇3Scary Stories About Mean PetsA lot of kids love having a pet. Pets can be really fun to play with and they make great companions. Whether it's a dog, cat, hamster, bird, or something else entirely, having a little furry (or feathery or scaly) friend is the best! But you know what's not so great? When pets attack people and hurt them badly. Unfortunately, that seems to be happening more and more these days.Just last week, I saw on the news that a lady got bit by her neighbor's pit bull when she was out walking her own dog. The pit bull apparently broke through the fence and went crazy, biting the lady over and over until someone could pull it off her. She had to go to the hospital and get a bunch of stitches! The news said she might have some really bad scars from all the bites too. How scary is that?A few months ago, there was another incident where a little boy got scratched up pretty badly by his family's cat. I guess theboy was playing kind of roughly and pulled the cat's tail, which obviously isn't very nice. But still, the cat went berserk and scratched at the boy's face over and over until his parents could grab the cat and lock it in another room. The little boy's face was all bloody and swollen. They had to take him to see a doctor too.And lets not forget about that crazy story from a while back about the lady in New York who got her friend's pet python wrapped around her and it started squeezing her! Can you imagine?? She had to go to the hospital because she had trouble breathing from how tight the snake was squeezing. The snake's owner got arrested for not being more careful. Owning an enormous pet snake just seems like a terrible idea if you ask me.I've even heard some smaller pets can be dangerous too if they get really upset and bite someone. Like those little rodents that some people keep as pets - ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. Their bites might not look too bad at first, but they can actually give you diseases if the pet hasn't had all its shots! My friend's aunt had to take antibiotics once after getting bit by their pet hamster. Yuck!So why does this keep happening? Why are there so many stories on the news and online about pets viciously attackingtheir owners or innocent people? Well, I have a few ideas based on what I've learned.First of all, some pets are just naturally a bit more aggressive and territorial than others. You have to be really careful with dogs that were bred to be guards or hunters, like pit bulls, rottweilers, German shepherds and so on. Those types of big, powerful dogs can do a lot of damage if they get frightened or feel threatened in any way. Even a smaller dog that thinks it's protecting its territory might get defensive and bite. That's why dog trainers always say you have to be the "alpha" and show your dog who's boss in a calm, firm way.Cats might seem more cute and cuddly, but they have sharp claws and teeth too. If you do things to annoy or scare them, like pulling their tail, they'll probably scratch or bite to protect themselves. That's just their natural instinct as a predatory animal. I've heard that "declawing" pet cats, which is when you have a vet surgeon remove their sharp claws, can actually make them more likely to bite since they don't have their claws to defend themselves anymore. Then you've got the really exotic pets like big constrictor snakes, monkeys, large lizards, and stuff like that. Those kinds of animals are basically just wild creatures that don't really makegood domesticated pets, in my opinion. They're not tame and predictable like a dog or a cat. Plus, they're often pretty powerful and could really hurt someone without even meaning to, like that poor lady who got squeezed by the python! Unless you're a trained professional, I don't think people should be allowed to keep reptiles and other exotics as household pets.Another issue that causes pets to attack is when they aren't trained or socialized properly when they're young. If a dog isn't taught good behavior and obedience from an early age, it can become aggressive, territorial, and unwilling to listen to commands as it gets older and bigger. Nobody wants a big badly-behaved dog that could turn on them!Poor treatment and abuse can make pets lash out too. If an animal is neglected, yelled at, or hurt by its owners, it may become vicious as a way to defend itself against more mistreatment. It's like the animal gets convinced thatbiting/scratching/attacking is the only way to not get abused. Obviously that's a really sad situation for the pet.So what can we do about this problem? Well, I think there need to be tougher laws about owning certain breeds of powerful dogs and exotic animals that have the potential to be dangerous. The laws should require special training, licensing, and safety inspections to make sure the owners are responsible and equipped to handle that type of pet properly. Because let's be honest, owning a pet tiger is way different than owning a goldfish! For more typical household pets, the solution is educating owners - both kids and adults - about proper pet care. We need to learn how to properly socialize, train, and handle each type of pet in a calm, humane way that doesn't make them aggressive. Pets require a lot of patience, exercise, and commitment to care for them correctly. Finally, I think there should be harsher penalties for pet owners who are criminally negligent and let their aggressive pets get loose and hurt people. It's OK if it was a true accident. But if the owners knew their pet was dangerous and didn't take the right precautions, they deserve to be fined or maybe even go to jail if their pet really hurts someone. At the end of the day, pets should be fun companions that make us happy - not vicious animals that attack us! I really hope we can get better about preventing these kinds of scary incidents. Because as much as I love animals, I don't want to get mauled by someone's out-of-control pet. Let's start being way more responsible about pet ownership and safety. Who's with me?。

10 Things Dogs Really Want Their Owners To DoWe need dogs and they need us. The problem is that very often, we neglect to give them their basic needs. They were originally wolves about 100,000 years ago and about 15,000 years ago, they became domesticated animals. They are truly man’s best friend as they have hunted, guarded, nurtured and cared for humans ever since then. The dogs themselves thrive on being loved, protected and when they can help humans in distress. Dog brain scans now help us understand how dogs react to smells and odors. In the town where I live, there are countless dogs but it is very rare to see them being exercised. They are used exclusively as guard dogs but as they yap and bark at anybody and everybody, I do not think they are very useful at all! They have certainly not been trained in any way and they are often left outside in unpleasant climate conditions. What can help a dog to be healthy, happy and feel wanted? Here are 10 things that dogs really want their owners to know.“Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail.”- Kinky Friedman1. They want a safe and comfortable living environment. Some dogs like the Siberian husky and the German shepherd can be quite happy living outside in a doghouse, even in a cold climate. But experts are now telling us that, although dogs always lived outside for centuries, there are now more risks. Just think of dangerous gardening tools, pesticides, poisonous snakes, nasty neighbors and so on. But the biggest threat comes from extreme weather so a dog can freeze to death in winter or get heat stroke in the torrid summer. Dogs like to be outside at times but the best solution is to make sure they have their own space inside.2. They do not want to be trapped in a parked car.How many times have you seen a dog suffer in a parked car? I bet, lots of times. Watch the video where the veterinarian tries it out for himself. Although the windows are opened one or two inches, the temperature rises from 97°F to 117°F after 30 minutes. As dogs cannot perspire, they suffer terribly and they also feel helpless because they are not in control of the situation. The rule is never leave your dog in a parked car in warm weather.3. They want to be taken out for exercise. They need exercise and a change of scene. Every dog needs a daily walk and if you cannot do it, try to find a dog walker. Exercise helps the dog to keep fit, avoid digestion and behavior problems. Vary the route and allow the dog to explore all thenew smells. Being left in the yard is not enough because the dog will not run up and down like an athlete in training!Keeping them isolated and confined can lead to all sorts of behavior problems. I have just l ooked out of my window at my neighbour’s dog and their garden has been ruined by his destructive digging. He is very rarely taken out for a walk.4. They want to socialize.Exposing the dog to other dogs and people is a great way to socialize them. But make a few mistakes here and your dog will end up being either too aggressive or very shy. The dog needs to get used to other dogs so that she behaves well at dog fairs, community events and when meeting other dogs during exercise. Frenetic and noisy kids should be avoided and also the owner should try and get the dog used to men with beards, women with long skirts, different floor textures, mixed weather and strange smells. These are all part of your dog socialization program. An extreme case scenario is where you have a dog fight on your hands or where he or she might bite a child. Usually, the dog is overwhelmed and the owner might claim that he was working on socialization for the dog.5. They need boundaries, just like kids.Call it what you like: training, management or guidance, but every dog needs this. We tend to forget that a dog has the brain of a two year old child and therefore needs boundaries, rules, manners and consequences. Experts say that the training sessions should never last more than 10 minutes and they should always end on a high note, with the dog having done it right and getting a reward. The rewards for the dog and the owner are great. You have a calmer and more cheerful pet.6. They want to eat well.Just like us, they love their food. Some people are convinced that giving dogs raw meat is just what they would have had when they were like wolves. The fact is that a dog’s digestive system has evolved since then and is no longer equipped to process this raw meat. There is a real danger of getting salmonella or suffering from E. coli which is no joke. A balanced diet of fat, carbs and protein is best. Also, most dogs do best with eating in the morning and the evening.7. They need brain training.Maybe you thought that dogs just need physical exercise for a healthy body. But the dog also has a brain which can be stimulated through games, toys and other devices. They want to investigate and discover using their brains and senses. You may wantto play with her. But when she is on her own she would like to have a safe chew toy, for example. There are doggie board games and puzzles now available. Exposing your dog to new situations, sights and smells, such as going to the car wash, is also a good way to enrich her existence. Any activity which will help her focus, think and solve problems will make her a smarter and happier pet.8. They need to earn a reward.Every time you comfort a dog when he is afraid, this is interpreted as a reward and the fearful behavior becomes reinforced so it will happen with sickening regularity. Much the same goes when we give him a treat which he has not earned at all. It is recommended that you ask him to fetch something or sit before he actually gets the treat. There are now work-to-eat toys which can conta in the dog’s food. He has to work out how to open these to eat by pawing or nosing it. Some of the more popular ones are called Buster Cube or Dog Pyramid.9. They do not want too much talk.People talk to their dogs all the time and they do not realize that body language is far more effective than mere words. As we said above, the dog has a brain like a two year old child. We have to use the right body language though. A classic example when we talk too much during training. If we want the dog to stay and not come towards us, we tend to put up our hand. The dog interprets that as an invitation to come forward! It is much better to use our body language more effectively and to talk less.10. They do not want to be hugged! What could be more natural than to hug a dog affectionately? Actually, dogs hate being hugged. The reason is a simple one. Dogs have no arms and see this as an attempt at dominance on your part. But you only want to be affectionate. It’s not on. The dog will feel threatened or afraid.Dogs will sometimes tolerate hugs from kids because they know them well but otherwise, this is often when dog bites happen. Look at what happens when a child tries a hug. The dog may lick her lips or pull her ears back against her head which means she is not happy at all. If you want to express your love, try rubbing her back near her tail and don’t pat her head. She does not like it!更多英语学习:企业英语/。
