他山之石美国的微积分教学:1940—2004*路易斯 伏利德勒(美国) 柴 俊 张 晶译 张奠宙校美国的微积分教学在近六十年来经历了巨大的变革。

其中一些变革是高等院校扩招所引起的。

另外一些变革,特别是二十世纪八十年代后期的“微积分改革”,从一定程度上来说,是1965年以后需要教授更多学生而探索新的教学方法的结果。

这篇调查中所采取的方式,是将教学与招生联系起来,同时还对不同时期所采用的教材进行评估。

另外,在讨论中我还要引用来自其他一些数学家的评论,以及我个人对这个问题的思考。

特别要指出的是,有关上世纪四、五十年代教学的评论得益于与M e lv in H en ri k sen 教授的讨论,他是一位享有盛名、在连续函数的环领域有影响的数学家,现今已经半退休。

下面我从招生开始讨论。

因为这些高校的类型和中国的高校有所不同,我们将先简单地陈述一下这四类高校的定义,以便帮助中国读者了解美国的高等教育。

研究性大学是高等学术机构,公立、私立都有。

这些学校的很多学科都能够培养博士生。

研究性大学的本科学生主修一个(或一个以上)专业,但同时也要学习其他学科的一些课程(也就是说,他们可能要学习一些与他们的专业没有直接关系的课程)。

一年级学生采取大班上课,是这类大学的普遍情况。

为了帮助学生学习,学生有机会与助教进行单独交谈。

美国的大部分大学和学院的学生每学期要修读四至五门课程,每门课程每周上课3至4小时,共14周。

AP课程≠ AP考试AP课程分数≠ AP考试成绩AP课程与AP考试是相互独立的,学生可以在中学选修AP课程,在成绩单上获得学校AP课程的成绩;也可以在取得学校同意的情况下,不参加AP课程,自学并进行AP考试,获得AP成绩。

但从打好学科基础的角度,我们更建议修读AP课程并参加AP考试。

AP考试是一个全球统考的考试,每年5月份举行,7月左右可以查看成绩。

如果学校提供AP课程,可以通过学校AP课程老师报名;如果学校不提供AP课程,需要在每年12月-3月期间向AP考试中心报名。

学生可以自由选择是否参加AP考试,没有上过AP课程的学生也可以参加考试,但部分高中会要求所有上AP课程的学生必须参加考试。

AP考试成绩分数分为1-5分,5分为满分,4分为优秀,3分为通过。
