Cultural Differences between the East and West
As we all know, the culture in the east and that in the west are very different.
In value judgment, easterners hold the value of collectivism while westerners hold the values of individualism. As the way of thinking, western people think more directly, but the eastern people more obliquely. So while solve a problem, westerners would solve it in a quite direct way while easterners would more likely to detour. Meanwhile, easterners would show their emotions and opinion in a more tactful way than westerners who show then out directly. And for mode of life, westerners prefer live by their own while easterners prefer live in groups. When talking about interpersonal relationship, westerners have much more simply interpersonal relationship than easterners. There are still many different aspects in the culture between the east and the west. And among all these, the value of judgment is one of the most obvious and important differences.
It is known that easterners hold the value of collectivism while westerners the values of individualism. That is to say, in east, one should put collective interests in the first place. That is because they believe one would not exist without nationality, society, family or other collective; so one is firstly a person in collectives, and then he is himself. Therefore, the view of oneself in the east is tiny. However, in west, one would usually pay more attention to the realization of personal interests, because in their mind, the societies are established on individual. So, unlike eastern countries, the
view of self is great in western countries.
In the past years, millions of people argue that the collectivism and individualism which one is better. They all had their own points, and as for me, they are all reasonable. In one hand, any one of us is living in the collective, on one can live without collective; and as a member of a collective, it is reasonable and necessary to attach importance to the congregate interests. But it does not necessary mean that we should give up all our rational interests, we still have the rights to pursue them. Only when our own interest against the congregate one, should we put the congregate one in the first place. In the other hand, it is right for the individualism stress the expression of individuality, independence, liberty, competition, and self-achievement.
A society should admit individual value, so that, the whole society could exert its vitality absolutely. In a word, from my point of view, these two types of value are all meaningful and have their own pros.。

中西差异英语作文Title: Exploring Cultural Differences Between East and West。

Cultural differences between the East and the West have been a topic of fascination and study for centuries. These differences manifest in various aspects of life, including language, values, social norms, and communication styles. In this essay, we will delve into some key disparities between Eastern and Western cultures, focusing primarily on China and the English-speaking world. One of the most apparent disparities lies in communication styles. In Western cultures, particularly English-speaking ones, direct communication is often valued. People tend to express their thoughts and opinions openly and assertively. This straightforward approach is seen as honest and efficient in Western societies. On the other hand, in Eastern cultures like China, indirect communication is more prevalent. People may use subtle cues, body language, or context to convey their messages, often avoiding direct confrontation or explicit statements.Another notable difference is the perception of individualism versus collectivism. Western cultures typically prioritize individualism, emphasizing personal goals, achievements, and independence. In contrast, Eastern cultures, such as China, value collectivism, emphasizing harmony within the group, family, or community over individual desires. This fundamental contrast influences various aspects of life, including decision-making, social interactions, and relationships. Moreover, attitudes towards hierarchy and authority differ significantly between East and West. Western societies often exhibit a more egalitarian approach, where individuals are encouraged to question authority and challenge traditional hierarchies. In contrast, Eastern cultures like China often demonstrate a more hierarchical structure, where respect for authority and seniority is deeply ingrained. This difference can be observed in various settings, from family dynamics to workplacerelationships.Language also reflects cultural disparities betweenEast and West. For instance, English, as a language, tendsto be more direct and concise, with a focus on clarity and precision. In contrast, Chinese language and communication style often involve layers of meaning, implicit messages, and context-dependent interpretations. This linguistic variance mirrors broader cultural attitudes towards communication and interaction.Furthermore, attitudes towards time differ between Eastern and Western cultures. Western societies typically adhere to a monochronic perception of time, where schedules, deadlines, and punctuality are highly valued. In contrast, Eastern cultures like China often adhere to a more polychronic perception of time, where flexibility, relationships, and the present moment take precedence over strict adherence to schedules.Additionally, the concept of face, or "mianzi" in Chinese culture, plays a significant role in interpersonalrelationships. Maintaining harmony and preserving one's reputation or social standing is crucial in Easterncultures like China. Thus, people may go to great lengths to avoid causing embarrassment or loss of face for themselves or others. In Western cultures, while face-saving is also important, there may be a greater emphasis on individual expression and assertiveness. In conclusion, the cultural disparities between East and West are profound and multifaceted, influencing various aspects of life, including communication, values, social norms, and attitudes. Understanding and appreciating these differences are essential for effective cross-cultural communication and collaboration in an increasingly interconnected world. By recognizing and respecting each other's cultural perspectives, we can bridge the gap between East and West and foster mutual understanding and cooperation on a global scale.。

The culture differences between the East and West

The culture differences between the East and WestAs we all know, there are so many differences between culture of the East and West that I can not list all of their different aspects. I will focus on the differences of diet custom and teaching system. For your better understand , I will set examples of China and America. It is no doubt that it is a tradition to use chopsticks for Chinese. But people in America prefer to forks and knives. This different result is based on different food they are like .Americans choose to eat beefsteak, bread, and salad, while Chinese people choose noodles, pancakes and rice. What is more, the custom of drinking tea in China and drinking coffee in America are stand out particularly .However, there is a trend that the food in both countries has been mixture. For example, the coffee and bread have introduced to China. The famous KFC is very popular at children. The gap of teaching system between China and America is big. Chinese students always complain about their homework. Too much homework has limited the time to exercise and relax. They have to recite many things as to get a high mark. Homework comes the first to them.In my opinion, the study in America is more interesting .Teachers pay attentions to training students’ sk ills in thinking in realistic life not to emphasis on the importance of memories. In a addition, the rate of going to school ,the salary of teaching ,and the job of graduates are quite different, too. I should say that China government should make great efforts to improve its teaching system. I am also expect to be one day ,the West give more cheers to our country.“Culture is the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one category of people from another.”It is inevitable that the cultural difference has impact on business. For example, when a company is having meeting, the word “table” they mention in American English means to put something on the agenda, but in British English it means to put something off the agenda. This example indicated how the culture affects the business. There are four cultural dimensions that were defined in Hofstede’s research: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and masculinity. The most significant influence in cultural difference is the power distance. “It would condition the extent to which employees accept that their boss has more power that have and the extent to which they accept that their boss’s opinions and decisions are right because he or she is the boss.”Among most oriental corporate cultures, there is hierachism reasons, great centralization, sometimes called ‘power-oriented culture’,due to the historical reasons. That is a high power distance culture that mangers make the decision and superious appeal to be entitled more privileges. Their decision always close supervision positively evaluated by subordinates. In this situation, it is not be regarded if subordinates have a disagreement with their managers.Chinese and Western cultural differences in the performance of every aspect of daily life from the greeting ,term diet and cultural differences in the way of thinking in the abstract, such as differences everywhere, from the West focus on the following colors to express the difference between Chinese and Western cultural differences in areas such as a wedding set.First, in the West to express the color differenceDifferent colors in different .languages is not expressed in the same way. The representative of China in a sense, the West has a meaning that even the "color" to understand the meaning of the contrary. In Western wedding culture and the first in the West in thinking about the differences: the Chinese people more conservative, like excitement, more old-fashioned thinking, so in the history of China for thousands of years the entire wedding customs did not change much.
