一个经常被问到的问题是：到底申phd还是申master(也就是哪种被录取的可能更大)?通常系里的网页上会出现这样几种情况：本科生可以申phd也可以申ma;本科生只能申请ma;有了ma学历的才能申phd;还有就是系里只有ma，不提供phd。
结论是：除了第三种也就是系里没有phd的情况下你申请ma以外，其他一律申请phd，而不用去管他本科学历是否有资格申phd。
原因就在于：你想学他最好的东西，那就要表达你想读phd的愿望，道理就这么简单。

experience可以罗列参加过的考察、实习。
当然，这些都应该是和专业相关的经历。
其他的内容诸如公司实习、学生会团委、班干部、无关比赛、志愿者都可以省略，只需要写和专业学术有关的东西。
在每项活动下面应该附几行文字(5号字，并且行距调小，调成最小值)说明活动的内容以及自己所承担的任务，做了哪些事情。

指的是学术论文。
如果你在申请时已经有发表的论文，那是最好的。
如果尚未发表，但你知道将会在何时发表的，可以写上accepted for
publication，后面写上要发表的刊物/时间。
如果是已经提交的，但是还不知道是否可以发表的，也可以写上去，写submitted in review。

如果你有更高级的奖项，那就全部堆上去吧;奖额高的，还可以把具体金额也写出来。

一般老师都会让你自拟一个底稿，他再润色。
推荐信篇幅不宜很长，最多不要超过A4一页。
教授的推荐信显得尤为短，而且往往越牛越短。
内容上只要突出某个特质或优点就可以，不宜面面具到，主要以谈学习态度、学术能力为主。
至于缺点，可写可不写。

文科生相比理科申请多了WS，WS中文长的会有10页左右，一万多字，翻译成英文因为要DOUBLE-SPACED，所以长度就暴增。
WS当中比较重要的就是NOTES
REFERENCES，也就是我们所说的注和参考文献。
具体的格式去图书馆找两篇英文的论文，有些搞历史的学者写的文章，注很地道，REFERENCE里面还分成SCHOLARLY
REFERENCE和ACADEMIC REFERENCE，可以好好参考一下。
老师看文章，都是先翻到最后一页看你的注释和参考文献，如果这部分比较详实，就能留下一个好印象。
至于你在文章内容立意上能否有所突破，倒还是其次的，首先就是形式上要像样，要中规中矩。
