2 为什么带淋浴的卫生间等场所要设局部等电位联结？要分析卫生间设置局部等电位的原因，我们必须先了解何为电击。
电击，即通常人们所说的触电，是由于人体接触到带电部位而受到的身体伤害事件，但并非接触到带电体就一定会受到伤害，电流才是危及人体生命安全的直接因素（而不是电压），电击严重程度与通过人体的电流成正相关性。
而通过人体的电流的大小，又主要与接触电压和人体的阻抗有关。
接触电压是指人体所接触带有不同电位的两点时，这两点之间产生的电位差。
有了接触电压，就会靠人体这个电气通路形成电流。
比如，当人的一只手接触到某一带电物体，这个带电物体与人体另一部分比如脚所接触到的导电物体之间有电位差，那么就有电流通过人体；如果这个电流达到了对人体有伤害的程度，就会发生触电事故。
目前的居民住宅卫生间内一般都有带有淋浴间或浴缸，电气设备如灯、排气扇、电热水器、开关、插座等也是一应俱全。
在日常生活中，当我们发现有人触电时，首先想到的办法就是切断电源。
目前对室内一般的防电击做法是在卫生间的插座回路设置了漏电保护装置，额定漏电动作电流不大于30mA，当这些设备漏电且电流达到设定值时，漏电保护装置就会动作断开回路断路器，以达到保护的目的。
这种做法即是通过切断带电体的电源来达到电击防护的目的。
但是，虽然设置了漏电保护装置，且动作电流为30mA，但这并不意味着因此就能在发生触电时将通过人体的电流限制在30mA 以下，因为在卫生间内环境是潮湿环境，人在洗浴时自身阻抗也会大大降低，发生电击时流过人体的电流很大，尽管这个电流已经足以使保护装置动作切断电源，但在其动作切断电源之前流过人体的电流可能远远大于30mA。
在这样大的电流下，电击伤害可能在保护装置动作前就已经发生了。
另外，在洗浴时人体皮肤完全湿透，人体阻抗大大降低，沿金属管道、金属构件等传导来的较小电压就可能引起电击事故，这种电气事故不是漏电保护装置能防范的，因为这种使人伤亡的电压是沿非电的金属管道、金属构件传导的，属于非正常情况下存在的电压。
据报道在日本就曾发生过一家庭主妇将通电的电吹风掉入了浴盆里而使整栋卫生间带电的事例。
因此，仅靠漏电保护装置通过切断带电体的电源来保证人参安全是不完全可靠且不够的，必须通过第二种途径：设置局部等电位联结，降低接触电压，才是防止电击伤害的根本对策。
