成都市2016高考英语阅读类专题练习(3)及参考答案

【2013界广东省惠州市三模】Engineering students are supposed to be examples of practicality and rationality (理性), but when it comes to my college education I am an idealist and a fool. In high school I wanted to be an electrical engineer and, of course, any reasonable student with my aims would have chosen a college with a large engineering department, many famous professors and lots of good labs and research equipment. But that's not what I did.I chose to study engineering in a small liberal-arts (文科)university that doesn't even offer a major in electrical engineering. Obviously, this was not a practical choice; I came here for more noble reasons. I wanted a broad education that would provide me withflexibility and a value system to guide me in my job. I wanted to open my eyes and expand my vision by communicating with people who weren't studying science or engineering. My parents, teachers and other adults praised me for such a wise choice. They told me I was wise and grown-up beyond my 18 years, and I believed them.I headed off to the college and sure I was going to have an advantage over those students who went to big engineering "factories" where they didn't care if you had values or were flexible. I was going to be a complete engineer: technical expert and excellent humanist all in one.Now I'm not so sure. Somewhere along the way my noble ideas crashed into reality, as all noble ideas finally do. After three years of struggling to balance math, physics and engineering courses withliberal-arts courses, I have learned there are reasons why few engineering students try to reconcile engineering with liberal-arts courses in college. The reality that has blocked my path to become the typical successful student is that engineering and the liberal arts simply don't mix as easily as I supposed in high school. Individually they shape a person in very different ways. The struggle to reconcile the two fields of study is difficult.

Surprisingly, these people live largely by their own laws and their own social customs. And yet, people in this area are in fact French citizens because it has been a colony(殖民地) of the French Republic since 1946. In theory, they should live by the French law is often ignored or unknown, thus making them into an interesting area of “lawlessness”in the world. The lives of these people have finally been recorded thanks to the effects of a Frenchman form Paris called Gin. Gin spent five months in early 2015 exploring the most remote corners of this area, which sits on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, with half its population of only 250,000 living in its capital, Cayenne.“I have a special love for the French Guianese people. I have worked there on and off for almost ten years,” says Gin. “I’ve been able to keep firm friendships with them. Thus I have been allowed to gain access to their living environment. I don’t see it as a lawless land. But rather I see it as an area of freedom.”“I wanted to show the audience a photographic record touching upon the uncivilized life,”continues Gin. “I prefer to work in black and white, which allows me to show different specific worlds more clearly.”His black-and-white pictures present a world almost lost in time. These pictures show people seemingly pushed into a world that they were unprepared for. These local citizens now have to balance their traditional self-supporting hunting lifestyle with the lifestyle offered by the modern French Republic, which brings with it not only necessary state welfare, but also alcoholism, betrayal and even suicide. 学.科网28. The French Republic.DA warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety. The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night. Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer. While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.32. 高中英语真题-2016高考英语阅读理解和单项选择选练(2)

高中英语真题:2016高考英语阅读理解和单项选择选练(2)阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Wilderness“In wilderness (荒野) is the preservation of the world. ” This is a famous saying f rom a writer regarded as one of the fathers of environmentalis m. The frequency with which it is borrowed mirrors a heated d ebate on environmental protection: whether to place wilderne ss at the heart of what is to be preserved. As John Sauven of Greenpeace points out, there is a strong appeal in images of the wild, the untouched; more than anythi ng else, they speak of the nature that many people value mos t dearly. The urge to leave the subject of such images untouc hed is strong, and the danger exploitation (开发) brings to such landscapes (景观) is real. Some of these wildernesses also perform functions that humans need—the rainforests, for example, store carbon in vast quantities. T o Mr. Sauven, these “ecosystem services”far outweigh the gains from exploitation., a visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute, takes the opposing v iew. He acknowledges that wildernesses do provide useful se rvices, such as water conservation. But that is not, he argues, a reason to avoid all human presence, or indeed commercial and industrial exploitation. There are ever more people on the Earth, and they reasonably and rightfully want to have better l ives, rather than merely struggle for survival. While the ways of using resources have improved, there is still a growing nee d for raw materials, and some wildernesses contain them in a bundance. If they can be tapped without reducing the services those wildernesses provide, the argument goes, there is no f urther reason not to do so. Being untouched is not, in itself, a characteristic worth valuing above all others.I look forward to seeing these views taken further, and to their being challenged by the other participants. One challenge tha t suggests itself to me is that both cases need to take on the q uestion of spiritual value a little more directly. And there is a p ractical question as to whether wildernesses can be exploited without harm. This is a topic that calls for not only free expression of feeling s, but also the guidance of reason. What position wilderness s hould enjoy in the preservation of the world obviously deserves much more serious thinking.1. John Sauven holds that .A. many people value nature too muchB. exploitation of wildernesses is harmfulC. wildernesses provide humans with necessitiesD. the urge to develop the ecosystem services is strong2. What is the main idea of Para. 3?A. The exploitation is necessary for the poor people.B. Wildernesses cannot guarantee better use of raw materials .C. Useful services of wildernesses are not the reason for no e xploitation.D. All the characteristics concerning the exploitation should be treated equally.3. What is the author’s attitude towards this debate?A. Objective.B. Disapproving.C. Sceptical.D. Optimistic.4. Taxi, the underground, driving…in London these means of transport are expensive. As a student on a budget, I couldn't afford the 30 pounds (around 300 yuan) fare for a taxi. Even a bus was one pound and 20 pence (about 12 yuan) for a single ticket. I didn't need to travel this way anyway. I had Mabel-- my London bike. When I moved to Beijing, like every foreigner, I was delighted to discover I could take a cab for cheaper than a single journey on the subway. But something was wrong. I missed Mabel. That was when I met Mandarin Mabel also known as Mandy, my Beijing bike.In many ways, Beijing is made for: It is a flat, easy land compared with hilly London. The cycling city's north/south/east/west square structure is also easier to travel than London's unplanned, twisting streets. However, Beijing comes completely with its own dangers. The rules of the road are flexible. Bikes, cars, passers-by all float up and down ways in both directions.Compared with London's terrible cycle paths, in Beijing, every road has huge, wide cycle ways. But cars, taxis and motorbikes see no reason why they shouldn't use the cycle ways as a shortcut, and why they shouldn't announce you to get out of their way when they do.Beijing traffic is more good-natured. In London, the road is an active war. People shout, quarrel and beat on each other's windows. In Beijing zone, drivers never get actively angry. In fact, often they ignore cyclists. Obviously that means it's up to the cyclists to see them.Mandy is a tree Beijing bike. It is nearly broken, it makes loud noises every time you rideon it, and I have had to make several emergency repair stops for it.But cycling round Beijing on a sunny day is a joy. It is just me, Mandy and the city.41. What can we conclude from the first paragraph?A. Bicycles are the most popular means of transport in London.B. To save money, the author used travel around by bus in London.C. The expense of public transport makes some people want to buy a bike.D. The author didn't travel around London because of lacking a bike.【答案】C【解析】推理判断题。
