Unit 4 Global warmingⅠ.阅读理解A[2020·兰州实战模拟]The effect of climate change extends beyond ruining Earth's environment and our physical safety. A report published this week suggests that climate change has a negative effect on our mental health, too.The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America(PNAS), links an increase in monthly temperatures to a rise in mental health issues. The experimental evidence stems from meteorological (气象学的) data paired with information collected from nearly 2 million randomly sampled residents in the United States. The data was collected over the span (跨度) of a decade.“We find that experiences with hotter temperatures and added rainfall each worsen mental healt h, that longlasting warming associates with an increased popularity of mental health issues, and that exposure to tropical cyclones (热带气旋), likely to increase in frequency in the future, is linked to worsened mental health,” authors of the study stated. “These results provide added largescale evidence to the growing link between climate change and mental health.”The report specifically focused on mental health outcomes due to the effects of environmental stress — such as temperature, rainfall, and tropical cyclones —but other climate changerelated issues are likely to affect mental health as well — specifically, the stress and anxiety of knowing natural disasters could be more frequent as temperatures rise.1.From the newlypublished report, we learn that the climate change may ________.A.save a lot of people's livesB.cause unbelievable disastersC.influence people's mental healthD.greatly change people's life styles2.Why did the author mention “the span of a decade” in Paragraph 2?A.To stress the importance of the study.B.To show that the study cost too much money.C.To explain the difficulties and hardships of the study.D.To indicate that the study is objective and believable.3.Where can we find some specific results of the study?A.In Paragraph 1. Global warming李仕才一、阅读理解。
What are your retirement plans? Keep working? Get more exercise? Or learn something new? You may put them on hold. There’s a chance that, sooner or later, you might have to move further than you were thinking, as far as Mars (火星).On Thursday, National Geographic will show the first ever Mars show home, giving earthlings an idea of what their life could look like on the Red Planet. Set in the notsodistant year of 2037, the iglooshaped structure could be the home of your future. It shows a house built using recycled spacecraft parts and Martian soil, called regolith, which has been microwaved into bricks. Some parts of the home are recognisable—kitchen, bedroom—but there are fundamental differences that are vital for human survival. As the Martian atmosphere is around one hundredth as thick as the Earth’s, people will need permanent shelter from the sun and society will move largely indoors. Most buildings will be connected by underground passages and the houses won’t have win dows. The homes will have simulated solar lighting, or natural light that has been bent several times.Walls will need to be 10 to 12 feet thick, to protect people from dangerous rays that can pass through six feet of steel, and a double airlocked entrance to keep the home under proper pressure.“We don’t think of our houses as things that keep us alive, but on Mars yourhouse will be a survival centre,”says Stephen Petranek, author of How We’ll Live on Mars. This is not just the stuff of scifi. “Ten to twenty years from now there will certainly be people on Mars,”Petranek says.“We’ve had the technology for 30 years to land people on Mars, but we haven’t had the will,”Petranek says. “But two main factors have completely swung public attitudes.”The private companies’ participation has forced government agencies to up their game, and influential films such as Gravity and The Martian have caught society’s eye.【解题导语】本文主要对人类未来在火星上居住作了相关介绍。

The schools and the educators made it easy for us. They thought that it was all right to be parents who take a let-alone policy. We stopped making our children do homework. We gave them calculators, turned on the television, left the teaching to the teachers and went on vacation. Now teachers, faced with children who have been developing at their own pace for the past 15 years, are realizing we’ve made a terrible mistake. One such teacher is Sharon Clomps who says of her students—“so passive” —and wonders what has happened. Nothing is demanded of them, she believes. Television, says Clomps, contributes to children’s passivity. “we’re talking about a generation of kidswho has never been hurt or hungry. They have learned somebody will always do it for them, instead of saying ‘go and look it up’, you tell them the answer. It takes greater energy to say no to a kid.”Yes, it does. It takes energy and it takes work. it’s time for parents to end their vacation and come back to work. It’ s time to take the car away, to turn the TV off, to tell them it hurts you more than them but it’ s for their own good. It’s s time to start telling them “no” again.1.We learn from the passage that the author’s mother used to lay emphasis(重点) on ______.A.learning LatinB.being well behavedC.natural developmentcation at school2.By “permissive period in education” (L1, para.2) the author means a time ______.A.when children are allowed to do what they wish toB.when everything can be taught at schoolC.when every child can be educatedD.when children are permitted to receive education3.The main idea of the passage is that _______.A.parents should leave their children aloneB.kids should have more activities at schoolC.it's time to be more strict with our kidsD.parents should always set a good example to their kids参考答案: 1.B; 2.A; 3.C解析:本文是一篇夹叙夹议文章,本文介绍了父母亲对孩子疏于管制,听其自然对孩子的学习带来的负面影响,建议父母严格要求自己的孩子。

核心素养测评二十九选修6Unit 4Global Warming(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解AThese days everyone is worried about the size of their carbon footprint. In order to reduce global warming, we need to make our carbon footprints smaller. But how much CO2 are we responsible for?A new book by Mike Berners-Lee (a leading expert in carbon foot-printing) might be able to help. The Carbon Footprint of Everything looks at the different things we do and buy, and calculates the amount of CO2they produce, including the ingredients, the electricity, the equipment, the transport and the packaging. And it’s frightening how much carbon dioxide everything produces. But all of this can help us decide which beer to drink. From Berners-Lee’s calculations, it’s clear that a pint (568 ml) of locally-brewed (酿制的) beer has a smaller carbon footprint than a bottle of imported beer. This is because the imported beer has been transported from faraway, and it uses more packaging. The local beer only produces 300g of CO2-but the imported beer produces 900g! So, one pint of local beer is better for the environment than three cans of cheap foreign beer from the supermarket.Berners-Lee has even calculated the carbon footprint of cycling to work. Nothing is more environmentally-friendly than riding a bike, surely? Well, it depends on what you’ve had to eat before. To ride a bike we need energy and for energy we need food. So, if we eat a banana and then ride a kilometer and a half, our footprint is 65 g of CO2. However, if we eat bacon before the bike ride, it’s 200 g. In fact, bananas are good in general because they don’t need packaging. They can be transported by boat and they grow in natural sunlight. So, does this mean that cycling is bad for the environment? Absolutely not. If you cycle, you don’t use your car; and the fewer cars on the road, the fewer traffic jams. And cars in traffic jams produce three times more CO2than cars travelling at speed. Cycling also makes you healthy and less likely to go to a hospital. And hospitals have very big carbon footprints! So, maybe it’s time for us all to start making some changes. Pass me a banana and a pint of local beer, please.【文章大意】这是一篇议论文。

Everyone knows that death is natural, but do you have any idea of the process of dying? Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two stages — clinical or temporary death and biological death. Clinical death occurs when the vital organs, such as the heart or lungs, have stopped functioning, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism can still be saved. Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the “breaking up” o f vital cells and tissues. Death is then unchangeable and final.Scientists have been seeking a way to prolong the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling the organism, combined with narcotic (麻醉) sleep. By slowing down the body’s metabolism (新陈代谢), cooling delays the processes leading to biological death. To show how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey called Keta. The scientist put Keta to sleep with a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began taking blood out from an artery (动脉). The monkey’s blood press ure decreased and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: clinical death set in. For twenty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees. At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. After two minutes Keta’s heart became active once more. After fifteen minutes, spontaneous (自发的) breathing began, and after four hours Keta opened her eyes and lifted her head. After six hours, when the scientists tried to give her a penicillin (青霉素) injection, Keta seized the syringe (注射器)and ran with it around the room. Her behavior differed little from that of a healthy animal.1.For a person who suffers from the clinical death _________.A. he is still very much aliveB. he cannot avoid final deathC. his most important organs are damaged foreverD. he still has the possibility of getting back to life2.Scientists try to make the time of clinical death longer in order to _________.A. cool the organismB. delay the coming of biological deathC. slow down the body’s metabolismD. bring vital cells and tissues back to active life3.The text mainly talks about _________.A. clinical death and biological deathB.an experiment on a monkeyC. the meaning of deathD. the process before death4.From the underlined sentence in the last paragraph we can know that _________.A. Keta was impoliteB. Keta was healthyC. Keta was illD. Keta was crazy【文章大意】本文要紧叙述了为了延缓生理死亡的到来,科学家尽量延长临床死亡的时刻。

Unit 4Global warming课时作业Ⅰ.阅读A(2020·山西省祁县中学高三月考)College students may find a greener campus when they return to classes this fall. Some schools are repairing older buildings and constructing new ones that are better for the environment. Other steps include adding wind and solar energy systems and planting vegetable gardens.George Washington University (GW) is a private school with 200,000 students. The university has two gardens where students volunteer their time.Over the last ten years GW has developed projects in three main areas—climate, water and eco-systems. They have begun to create projects on the ground to address climate change. They are planning on becoming carbon-neutral (平衡的) and, in fact, reducing the_footprint by forty percent by 2025, from creating solar hot-water systems on our rooftops to making our buildings much more energy efficient. The school also offers 140 different classes in sustainability (可持续性发展) and the environment.Mark Orlouski said, “We see numbers like less than 20% of school having a green building policy five years ago and now upwards of 80% of schools having a policy, which states that their new buildings will be built in a green fashion.”GW is located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington. Some neighbors say that while GW is laying to be friendlier to the environment, it could also be a better friend to the neighborhood. The school has expanded quickly and there have been tensions between students and local residents.篇章导读:本文是一篇说明文。

(建议用时:40分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020·长沙四校一模)A tiny Alaska village has experienced a boomin tourism in recent years as polar bears spend more time on land than onArctic sea ice.More than 2,000 people visited the northern Alaska village ofKaktovik in 2018 to see polar bears in the wild. The far north community lies in an area where increasingly higher temperature has sped up the movement of sea ice, the primary habitat(栖息地) of polar bears. As ice has gradually moved to deep water beyond the continental shelf, more bears are remaining on land to look for food.Polar bears have always been a common sight on sea ice near Kaktovik, but villagers started noticing a change in the mid1990s. More bears seemed to stay on land, and researchers began taking note of more female bears making homes in the snow on land instead of on the ice to raise their babies. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists began hearing reports of the increasing number of polar bears in the area in the early 2000s. As more attention was given to the plight(困境) of polar bears about a decade ago, more tourists started heading to Kaktovik.“The village had fewer than 50 visitors annually before 2011,”said Jennifer Reed, of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. “Today we’re talking about hundreds and hundreds of visitors, many from around the world each year,”Reed said. Most tourists visit in the fall, when bears are forced toward land because sea ice is farthest away from the shore. Bruce Inglangasak, a local hunter who sometimes offers wildlifeviewing tours, said he’s been offering polar bear tours since 2004. Most of his clients(客户) are from China and Europe, as well as from the lower 48 U.S. states. Many tourists stay several days in the village, which has two small hotels. The villagers have benefited a lot from that. In turn, they provide more effective protection for polar bears with financial support from tourism development.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。
