I don't love reading as much, but I'm okay at it.Finally, at noon it's time for the lunch break! I head to the cafeteria with my best friend Jessica. We load up our trays with pizza, salad, a chocolate milk carton, and an apple for dessert. The pizza is kind of greasy and floppy, but it tastes pretty good when you're really hungry!After lunch, we have special area classes like art, music, P.E., and Spanish. I especially love art class because I get to work on cool projects like painting, drawing, or making little sculptures out of clay. I'm not the best artist, but I have a lot of fun with it. Today we got to work with watercolor paints and make spring scenes.At 3:00, it's finally time to hear that final bell ringing, letting us know we're free for the day! I gather up my things and head back outside to wait for the bus. It comes by 3:20 and I spend the ride home chatting with my friends about our days.When I get dropped off at my house at 3:45, I head inside to have a snack. Some days I'll have an apple with peanut butter or a handful of pretzels and a juice box. Then I change into comfier clothes and head into the backyard to get started on my homework. I like to take advantage of the nice weather while I can!I spend about an hour working on assignments for math, reading comprehension, spelling words, and any other worksheets or projects I need to wrap up. Once that's all done, I get to enjoy the rest of the afternoon relaxing or playing until dinner at 6:My mom and dad both get home from work around 5:30, so I'll hang out with them for a bit first. Sometimes we'll watch a little TV together or I'll show them what I worked on that day at school. Other times, I'll just go ride my bike or play outside if it's still light out.For dinner, we'll either cook something at home or pick something up if my parents don't feel like making a whole meal.My favorite is when we get take-out like pizza, Chinese food, or burgers and fries! No matter what though, we always eat together as a family at the dining room table.After dinner, I get a little more free time before getting ready for bed around 8. I'll read, play games, or just veg out watching shows. I have to take a shower and get my pajamas on by 8:30 though.Then it's time for bed! I'll read out loud to my parents or little brother for 20 minutes or so before turning the lights out by 9. Get ready for an exciting journey!It all starts when my annoying little alarm clock blares that dreadful noise at 6:30am. I sluggishly roll out of bed, my eyesbarely open. The first thing I do is stumble over to my dresser and put on my comfy bunny slippers. They're the best!Next up is getting dressed for school. I usually just throw on my uniform - a polo shirt and khaki pants. My mom is always fussing that my shirt isn't tucked in properly. Moms, am I right? Once I'm dressed, I head downstairs for the most important meal of the day - breakfast!My favorite breakfast is pancakes, but my mom likes to mix it up. Sometimes it's eggs and toast, other days it's oatmeal or cereal. Whatever it is, I'm definitely hungry and eat it up quickly so I have time for my favorite part of the morning.After gulping down my breakfast, I rush back upstairs to my bedroom. Why? Because this is when I get to play on my iPad for a little while before school! I've been really into this awesome game called Subway Surfers lately. Have you played it? It's so hard but so addicting!At around 7:30, my mom yells up the stairs that it's time to get going. I grudgingly put down my iPad and get my backpack ready. I always double check that I have my homework, pencils, books, and snacks for the day.The school day itself is pretty routine. My first class is math, which I actually really like even though lots of kids think it's boring. Next up is language arts, where we read cool stories and learn about grammar. Writing essays is my favorite part!Around 11:30, the best time of the day arrives - lunchtime! I always get super hungry by that point. My friends and I love to trade food from our lunchboxes. My mom packs me a sandwich, a juice box, carrots, and usually a cookie or chips for a treat.After lunch, we have science class which is awesome. My science teacher really makes it fun by letting us do experiments and projects. Once science is done, we have history and I have to admit, that one can be a little dry sometimes. But I'm glad I'm learning about how the world became what it is today.Finally, the last class of the day is gym, which is the perfect way to get your energy out before going home. Ms. Jackson, the gym teacher, has us run laps, play sports and do exercises. I'm not going to lie, by the end I'm dripping in sweat! Good thing I bring an extra shirt to change into.Once the final bell rings at 3pm, I beam with joy because it's time for after-school activities! On Mondays, I have soccer practice. Tuesdays are reserved for Girl Scouts. Wednesdays I attend a coding club. Thursdays are dance classes, and Fridays Iget to go home early since there's no activities scheduled. Phew, it's a lot to keep track of!No matter what activity I have, my parents always come pick me up around 5pm. By that point, I'm exhausted and starving again. We swing by a drive-thru or pick up take-out on the way home so no one has to cook dinner. My favorite is getting Taco Bell!When I get home, I know I have to get started on my homework right away. Putting it off is just asking for trouble later. Math and language arts assignments come first since those are the core classes. Once I power through those, I can take a little break to watch some TV or play on my iPad again.Around 8pm, I start getting ready for bed. I take a shower or bath, brush my teeth, put on my pajamas, and make sure my backpack is all packed up for the next day. I groan and pull the covers over my head - I'm definitely not a morning person! But mom is pretty persuasive. She reminds me that we'll be late for school if I don't get a move on. So I eventually roll out of my cozy bed.After getting dressed in my favorite jeans and t-shirt, I head to the kitchen for breakfast. My little brother Tommy is already there munching on cereal. He's only in 2nd grade so he gets to sleep in a little later than me. So unfair! For breakfast, I have a bowl of oatmeal with fresh blueberries and a glass of orange juice. Yum!At 7:30am, we all pile into mom's car and she drives us to school. Tommy and I like to play "I Spy" games in the car to pass the time. When we get to school at 8am, mom drops us off in the drop-off lane. For our writing exercises, we've been practicing descriptive paragraphs. I find it really satisfying when I can paint a clear picture with just my words.At 10:45am, it's time for recess! Sophia and I spend most of recess on the playground chasing each other around and making up games. Sometimes we also hang out by the soccer field and analyze the latest gossip going around our friend group. Who has a crush on who, whose mom is letting them get their ears pierced, that sort of thing. Seemingly trivial but it all feels so important at this age!After recess, I have science class. We're learning about simple machines like levers, pulleys, and wedges. I really enjoy the hands-on experiments we get to do. Last week, we had a contest to see whose lever could lift the heaviest object. My team's lever lifted an entire dictionary! I was so proud.The lunch bell rings at 12:15pm. Finally, time to eat! I'm usually starving by this point. My mom packs me a nutritious lunch - a turkey and cheese sandwich on whole wheat, an apple, carrot sticks, and a pack of crackers. For a treat, she includes a pack of fruit snacks which is my favorite. I eat my lunch at the long tables in the cafeteria surrounded by my loud and rambunctious classmates. It's a nice half hour to relax and recharge.In the afternoon, I have history class where we're learning about Colonial America. I find the stories of pilgrims, patriots, and pamphleteers really interesting! I love imagining what life must have been like back then without modern technology and conveniences. For our next project, we have to create a replica of an old colonial home. I'm really excited to get creative with it.Finally, it's time for P.E. class at 2:30pm. We're doing a unit on basketball skills right now. I'm not the most athletic kid but I still have fun trying my best. I've actually gotten pretty good atdribbling! Sometimes they let us play games at the end of class which is my favorite part. Games of knockout can get super competitive!The final bell rings at 3:15pm. Thank goodness, I made it through another day! I meet up with Tommy again and we wait in the pick-up area for mom's car to come around. Once we get home, I immediately change into comfortable clothes - leggings and an oversized t-shirt.I spend the next couple of hours working on any homework I have. I actually don't mind homework too much as long as I can work on it before I get too tired and distracted in the evenings. Mom helps explain anything I'm stuck on. Around 5:30pm, we have dinner as a family. We go around the table sharing our "rose and thorn" of the day - the best and worst parts.After dinner, I have a little bit of free time before bed. Sometimes I read, sometimes I facetime my friend Ava, sometimes I get started on that big history project. At 8pm, it's time to get ready for bed which includes taking a shower and laying out my clothes for tomorrow. Finally, I crawl into my fresh sheets utterly exhausted from my jam-packed day. I fall asleep almost instantly, ready to re-charge and take on another day tomorrow.Well, there you have it - a typical day for a 5th grader!
