These days everyone is worried about the size of their carbon
footprint. In order to reduce global warming, we need to make our
carbon footprints smaller. But how much CO2 are we responsible for?
A new book by Mike Berners-Lee (a leading expert in carbon
foot-printing) might be able to help. The Carbon Footprint of
Everything looks at the different things we do and buy, and calculates
the amount of CO2 they produce, including the ingredients, the
electricity, the equipment, the transport and the packaging. And
it’s frightening how much carbon dioxide everything produces.
But all of this can help us decide which beer to drink. From
Berners-Lee’s calculations, it’s clear that a pint (568 ml) of

Passage1(2017·江苏卷)
Old Problem, New Approaches
While clean energy is increasingly used in our daily life, global warming will continue for
some decades after CO2 emissions(排放) peak. So even if emissions were to begin to decrease today,
we would still face the challenge of adapting to climate change. Here I will stress some smarter
and more creative examples of climate adaptation.
When it comes to adaptation, it is important to understand that climate change is a process.
We are therefore not talking about adapting to a new standard, but to a constantly shifting set
of conditions. This is why, in part at least, the US National Climate Assessment says that: "There
is no ‘one-size fits all’ adaptation." Nevertheless, there are some actions that offer much
and carry little risk or cost.

Refresh Our Environment
As the director stated on behalf of his researching group, the data of this
graph makes a clear presentation of the future environmental tendency。 On one
hand, the quantity of fuel keeps on decreasing by 9% per year while the growth of
a wide range of pollution has been a global trend。 On the other hand, the mildly
but steadily going up of the average temperature is resulting in catastrophes
like widespread floods. Without disagreement, they subscribe to the view that it
is humans’ existence and their randomly consuming energy that result in this
phenomenon.
Many people have a commitment that developing nuclear power or energy from
outer space will stop bad consequences coming about。 However, scientists and
