DAU. Degeneration《

Communism is basically a religion. The Marxist, Leninist, Stalinist religion without a God. Which is a messianic religion. It has a holy book, it has a church. It has a head of the church. It has all kinds of rites, rituals.你是伟大的You, the Great Ones,我欢迎你I welcome you在山间在岩壁from the mountains, from the rocks.你是命运的主宰You lords of destinies. Give this man heart, give him mind.净化他Purify this man.造物主啊You who created everything,盼你能听到我的声音may you hear me赐予他呼吸and give him breath. I'm addressing these words to you, hear them.愿你能听到May you hear them. There are in the Communist Party, in many ways,在许多方面和某些邪教仪式一样the same thing that happenend in some heresies. It's the belief that you have to make things worse才能使其变得更好in order to become better.先毁掉一切To destroy things才能创造变革in order to create the revolution. This is the Institute, which was constructed in 1938.很壮观It's very impressive. So, we have two inhabited buildings here. The one on the left and the one on the right. The left one is the shared apartment for the scientists和访客提供的共享公♥寓♥who work here permanently, and also for the guests这些是非常完善的基础设施This is a kind of an infrastructure, very developed,所以人们无需进城so that people wouldn't need to go to the city. For instance, we have a cafe, a barbershop here. Now we should proceed to the security department. As we are on the territory有准入限制研究所区域of the restricted access Institute. 你们已经进入了一个You have arrived有准入限制的研究所at a restricted, secret Institute我们致力于为苏联提供国防方案which works on defence solutions for the USSR.USSR:Union of Soviet Socialist Republics 苏维埃社♥会♥主♥义♥共和国联盟简称苏联你们在这里听到的任何讯息都是Any pieces of information which you will receive here 国♥家♥机♥密♥are considered state secrets. 清楚了Very clear. Are you ready to sign an agreement保密协议了吗to preserve the state secrets? Take a look at this. 这样可以了This is all.谢谢Thank you very much. Today is the first day of our extensive conference旨在讨论我们研究所的一项全新课题dedicated to a rather new issue for our institute这是一个非常新颖的跨学科的研究which is very current, interdisciplinary reasearch.是综合了自然科学and the synthesis of natural sciences与人文科学and the humanities. I would like to note that我们今天的来宾有各自的宗教信仰our guests today are not solely religious practitioners. 迪尼神父Father Daniil同时也是莫斯科神学院的教师also teaches at the Moscow Theological Academy拉比·史坦夏茨是and Rabbi Steinsaltz is a professor耶路撒冷大学的教授at the University of Jerusalem. Naturally, we can be rather sceptical接下来听到的内容持怀疑态度about what we're going to hear today. I would like to say, that our guests do not intend向我们的学术团体证明上帝的存在to prove to our academic community that God exists. The idea is to familiarise us with the concepts of Man 在犹太教和东正教中关于人的概念in Judaism and Orthodox Christianity. I'll now give the floor to Father Daniil.来吧Go ahead.谢谢Thank you. First of all, I must thank the Institute's directorship 邀请我来在这里向你们for inviting me to talk to you,向科学界做演讲the scientific community. I'm very pleased to be here.就像主任说的As the director said,我不想把我的演讲变得像是I don't want my lecture to be seen as什么传教工作一样some kind of missionary work. It's more of a simple heart-to-heart. The spiritual practice of Christianity maintains人类无法做出纯粹的善行that people cannot commit acts of pure goodness. They don't have the powers within themselves做出纯粹的善行的力量to commit purely good acts. Any good deed we do always contains总是参杂着不纯洁的元素an element of something impure. It could be through pride, or out of jealousy. It could be praising yourself, "Look how good I am". So this presence of something that isn't pure or good 存在于每个人的正面行为中is found in every human act of goodness. I have difficulty understanding good and evil. If we're touching on this topic,我认为最大的威胁是任何一个人都会断言I'd say the main danger is that any person can claim 自己有评判善恶的能力the ability to judge what is good and what is evil. This ability to judge is, for me, much more dangerous 比明确的善恶标准的存在或缺失than the presence or absence要危险得多of well-defined criteria for good and evil. So it's a question of the criteria of good and evil? Not just about these criteria,还有我们是否能够承担起but whether we're able to take on the responsibility评判善恶的责任for saying what is good and what is evil. Of course, from a human perspective我们没有办法去准确定义这些概念it's impossible to define these concepts precisely. We can still assume that by "God" we mean someone一个能做出这种纯粹的绝对的善行的人who can commit that pure and absolutely good act,我们凭直觉断定这种人真的存在that we intuitively know, does exist. If we put it like that? So your understanding of God is ethical? As a source of the absolute good? Ontologically, the existence of God seems strange特别是对于数学家来说for a mathematician, in particular. It sounds like an ill-understood definition. The absence of a definition. But how can man find salvation in abstract concepts? God is an abstract concept in any case. God cannot stay abstract when he becomes very concrete. You just said that God is an unattainable absolute good. For us it sounds like an abstract notion. We're used to work with abstract ideas in a concrete way. If a person could commit a good act by himself,他既不需要信仰也不需要教堂和上帝he would need neither religion, nor church, nor God. But he doesn't have those powers. They always come to his aid from the outside,作为上帝的存在和支持他的标志as a sign of God's presence and support. That's how it is. People have a tendency to talk. And they have to talk, people have a tendency to talk. 还有这种倾向And the tendency. And to give names to things. But usually they don't know what they're talking about. We are speaking about atoms and about electrons. We don't know what atoms are, really. And we don't know what electrons are. There was a great physicist that said:"就我而言当我想象电子的时候""For me, when I envision electrons,""它们是在空间中不断移♥动♥的小红球" "they're small little red balls moving in space." He knew this is not true but he said:"我别无他法""I cannot do otherwise." Now, if I am a modern-time scientist,我不会关心什么是电子I don't care what an electron is,我不会关心它们是怎么移♥动♥的I don't care what is the movement,如果一个离子移到另一边会发生什么What happens if one of the ions moves to the other side. I can make a formula and I can apply it properly. I know how they operate.在某种程度上To some extent. I've come to a world基本概念不再重要的世界in which basic notions are no longer important. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying there's a change. It's a change in understanding. It's also a change... That was what I'm writing about. Comparing it to other ways of thinking,一些同样从鲜为人知的知识开始的思维方式相比that also don't begin with well-known pieces of knowledge. But you begin with things不知道是什么的事物开始that you really don't know what it is. In a certain way, religions do it all the time.我们谈论上帝We speak about God. If you are a theologian you surely don't know what God is. In one of our holy books it says,它可能听上去不太好it doesn't sound perhaps nice." No kind of thinking can understand God."" Only the inner will of the heart can understand God." I'll put it in a slightly different way. The question about the existence of God,和"谁是万物之源"的问题as much as it has to do with the question of一样重要"Who was the source of all things?",在某种程度上这是一个科学问题it is, in a certain way, a scientific question. If I say, "What is the purpose of all things?"它就变成了截然不同的问题it becomes a very different question. The purpose is always in the future,所以我不能科学地处理这些问题so I can't deal with it scientifically. I can even say that I don't have any scientific proof 证明这些目标是存在的that the purpose exists.但是这些问题确实存在But the question exists. From the question of the smallest children:"这个目的是什么为什么""What is the purpose? What for?" Let me just put it in a more... I would say, in a sharper way. When you begin to ask this question, somehow已经无意识的you are already, without willing it,跨进了宗教领域in the realm of religion. Doesn't mean you're in the realm of a specific religion, Christianity, or Judaism, or Buddhism,但是你确实进入了宗教领域but you're in the realm of religion. That's your definition of religion? Religion by definition deals with this kind of... Anything that deals with this is a religion. Look, if within the time and space,共♥产♥主义在许多方面是一种宗教in many ways, communism is a religion. I'm not saying that I adhere to this religion. You may like it, you may believe in it. You may even call it scientific, if you want to,但是它是一种宗教but it is a religion. This religion also has the notion of a purpose. Because that's the innermost part of it, which is:"社会应该向什么方向发展""To what direction does society have to go?" Not, "Where does it go?" But, "What is the necessity to develop in the future?" We were just getting over the notion研究所里都是亲戚这个观念of being almost relatives here in this Institute,因为我们已经住在这里很多年了since we're living here for so many years,门对门窗对窗door to door, window to window.我理解I see.好了这些就够了No, it's enough. In some places, they would say, "This is un-Russian". You sit and talk and you don't have anything to drink. I knew an old man. He always drank and he used to drink only pure alcohol. So, later on he was an old man,他被发现患有一种疾病they found out that he has a malady. He has water in the lungs. He complained and said, "I never drank water in my life""那这些水是哪里来的""How did it come?" Then he says, "These are the 4 percent in the vodka." Let's drink to the fun. Comrades, Dau wishes you all a good night. According to your definition, I'm a religious person? In my religion, the absolute value is knowledge. The rest is relative and the absolute sin would be lying. 歪曲的信息你知道吗Distorting information, you know? Right. Something like that, yes. Knowledge is also in this society a position. You know what's interesting? In this country, the Soviet Union,虽然不明显但是我有一种强烈的感觉it's not obvious, but a very strong feeling,科学在这里几乎就像是一种宗教that science is almost like a religion here. I know, it's very highly respected. I don't know if it's good or bad, that's how things are. Look, being a scientist is a definition in itself. Being a scientist doesn't mean you're a better person. 对No. Because of that, you may be a scientist也可能同时是一个差劲的人and a lousy human being. But the value judgement here is that成为有学问的人要比The value of being knowledgeable is more成为一个好人更有价值than the value of being a good human being. I know that, I know it. Let me really be insistent here. The vodka is getting warmer and warmer. 好的很好Yes, very good.非常感谢你Thank you so much. I decide where everyone goes. Some are scientists, others are... I'm already almost 100 years old. Find your place in the pecking order. If you're a waiter... Then it's your vocation, right? No smoking in the grounds of the Institute. 这里写了It says there. Lean back. One more bolster. The young geniuses will visit you now . They will ask you some questions. Will you be glad to see them? Will you be glad to see them? Anyway, Dad, it's clear you're feeling better now. You know that Comrade Dau lives here. The famous scientist and academic. Let's go up and see him. And you'll get better acquainted with him. And he'll answer your questions.丹尼斯就出生于这间公♥寓♥ Denis was born in this flat. We've had some very happy times here.我们走吧Let's go. How did your love of physics begin? Your love of physics, Dau, was it from childhood? 我想说I just think... How did your love of physics begin? Maybe my parents influenced me. They are also involved in science. So from a young age我就认为我会从事物理或数学方面的工作I thought I'd work in physics or maths. We might need your help, Nora. What's your name again? Dau, Edik will ask a question now. What would you would sacrifice for science? And what should any scientist be prepared to sacrifice? Where do you draw the line?或者是没有底线吗Or is there none? I don't think Dau ever gave it much thought.你知道吗You know? He just lived and worked. He lived and worked as best he could.谢谢Thank you. My father made drafts for the nuclear bomb. It's a difficult question, but I thought... Is his car crash connected in some way?某种神秘的方式吗In a mystical way? Yes, as if God punished him. I don't think so. 还要几个杯子How many more cups? How old are you, Denis?17岁Seventeen. Are you afraid of death? I think about that a lot,我现在越来越不怕死了but I fear death less and less now. I've never had the fear of death.我害怕过I have. I haven't thought about life after death.你可能现世受苦You may suffer here,但死后就没感觉了but after you die, you don't feel anything. I've always been afraid of it.所以为什么害怕So why be afraid? I live over here, but over there there's nothing at all. But there's no You anymore. You can't even feel that you don't feel anything. You won't even be able to think about it. I regret now. I won't regret in the afterlife. So, you're afraid to lose your feelings over there? Yes, that there's just nothing at all. Nothing. I do want to retire. So I train up new staff.你要进来吗You coming in here?对Yes.吃饭吗To eat?对Yes.请进Come on in.你好Hello.小伙子们让让Let me through, guys. Shall we move the tables together?阿霞来吗Is Asya coming? I'll call you back later, alright? Did you order the cheese croquettes? 没No. The kids are here to eat.孩子们可以吃阴♥茎♥ The kids can suck a dick. I can't go on like this. I could make some sandwiches. Yes, we had a late delivery today. It'll be at least thirty minutes. We've nothing but beer.不要吗No? May I have a Kosmos bar, please? We've got a lecture now.有课A lecture? We'd like to eat before the lecture. Put a double on my bill. 我不能这么做Ich kann so nicht. First thing in the morning? Yes, to lift my spirits. You tired? Not enough vodka? Have you not had enough vodka? Fucking pour some for a friend. 你在工作You're at work. And I'm having fun. And you can drink at work? You can and I can't? I'm Head of Personnel. Fucking disaster is what you are.太他妈棒了That's fucking amazing.把我的帽子给我Give me my hat. Why the fuck you need it? You feel better when you're pissed, don't you? Of course, I like my drink. I get it, you hogged the vodka, yes? Ivan, enough of this circus.什么What?去工作Get to work.我们去做饭吧Let's get frying.再见波利史See you, Palych.开始吧Get started. And you Palych, don't distract them. Enough of these private parties.去食堂Go to the canteen. I don't want any singing and dancing here我很严肃没开玩笑Seriously, I'm not joking. Could you stew some perch or salmon? Gordienko is asking, he has a weak stomach.轻食吗A light dish?炖点鲈鱼和蔬菜Some perch and vegetables.没问题Yes, alright.这是一个流形We have the manifold该圆的圆心是固定的and the circle fixes the point. So you have a strong force有很强的力on the tangent space. Accordingly, this space of dimension 2n成为群U(1)becomes a representation的表示of the Group U(1). In this representation everything is rotating. Because if you have a vector like the circle acting on it, 你会得到一条穿过这里的定点直线you get a line of fixed points passing through here. The vector will be tangent to this line. So we get an irreducible representation. Reducible but without trivial components.我明白了I see. Every representation of the Abelian group like U(1)每个表式都分♥裂♥成不可约表式splits into irreducible representations. And the second fact is:如果V不等于零If V is not equal to zero,则每个等变闭形式then every equivariantly closed form都是等变精确的is equivariantly exact. What do you mean by "not zero"? Where it's not zero, it is equivariantly exact. But this infinitesemal vector field that we take, 不是来自一维群吗doesn't it come from a one-dimensional group? 群U(1)有一些限制U(1) has some restrictions. Therefore it can be anything. This sort of a miracle happens very rarely. It's like a harmonic oscillator,除去不需要的物质removing unwanted matter. Go in, I'll just get some fresh air.进展顺利吗How are things?还不错Not bad. We've spoken with the young people.有好苗子吗Are they any good?有They are. There's work to be done. We need to work with them. I want to give you a lecture.讲吧Go on then.很短大约40分钟A short one, around forty minutes. A lecture on the meaning of friendship, love, and respect. 你们这些年轻人You young people. You have a unique opportunity to start a revolution我们这代人搞砸的革命which our generation fucked up. Right? So if you make it happen. If you make a real revolution happen... Like the one that once caught us up in its current. You know, I'm already finished. Hooray. A revoluton is what we need, you understand?每天Every day.每天Every day.每分And every minute.革命在你心里A revolution within yourself. No, it has to be on the outside. For fuck's sake, outside, get it? It often ends very badly on the outside. Like fuck we need it. The revolution must be, what do they call it?流动的Flowing, flowing.是吗Yes?他是不是还在演讲Still speaking, is he?我们顺时针轮流Alright, let's go clockwise.还是逆时针吧Let's rather go anti-clockwise. Give the floor to the director. Trifonov, you're being asked. 既然这样In that case. I'd like to drink to those经历了革命who lived through the revolution.反♥革♥命♥ 反反复复的革命The counter-revolution, the counter-counter-revolution 但仍保持人性的人and still managed to stay human. To those who stay human despite what surrounds them. 说实话To be honest,当我被水包围when I'm surrounded by water. I try to become a fish. When surrounded by water, I try to become a seaweed. But you shouldn't be like that. 你不该这么做因为You shouldn't, because...看着我的眼睛Look into my eyes.你们知道You know what... Not many people survived those times. People are what need to be overcome.人很无聊People are boring.我想跳舞I want to dance.我看出来了I see that. When I was dancing, you were just standing. Most of them are drinking wine. They're intelligent people, Komsomol members. How can you allow this? It's better to relieve your stress somewhere else, 没有伏特加没有任何东西的地方without vodka, without anything. It's all the West's influence.但这里是莫斯科But this is Moscow. We need to set them straight. As Head of Personnel you allow this? But it's good to dance with the youngsters. You should've opposed all this. 别碰我Don't touch me. Alright, but hide your straps.什么What? What, you don't like it?我喜欢I like it. Why? Shall I get naked? I'll like it whatever. I'll go like this.随便你As you wish. Fine, I won't hide the straps.
