西班牙斗牛节bullfighting festival

History of bullfighting
With regard to the ancient origin of the Spanish bullfight, there appears a number of different sayings. Some argue that it comes from the festivities of the ancient Minoan (克里特文明的)culture on the island of Crete 2000 years before Christ; others dispute that by the similarity between the Spanish bullfight and Roman circus combats. Regardless of the different presumptions, the roots of the Spanish bullfight has firmly lay buried under layers of different peoples who invaded the Iberian Peninsular (伊比利半岛)(now Spain and Portugal), bringing their respective cultures with them.

History the festival
matadors with a big cloak
Every year from July 6 through 14, hundreds of thousands of revelers, dancing to traditional pipe bands, pack into the center of Pamplona(潘普洛纳) to kick off Spain's most famous bull-running fiesta in honor of the Navarre (纳瓦拉) capital's patron saint, San Fermin(圣佛明). Spain stages more than 3,000 fiestas a year--everything from fire walking to goatthrowing--but nine days of partying and running with the bulls at Pamplona still triumphs in terms of spectacle and recklessness.

Spanish bullfighting should be banned Bullfighting as a traditional custom in Spain has a long history. It is often called a blood sport by its detractors but followers of the spectacle regard it as a fine art and not a sport as there are no elements of competition in the proceedings. The matador is regarded as a brave man, and worshiped by the whole country of Spain. In their eyes, the unique crowds have decorous, brave souls, and perfectly combine technology, physical strength and the gentle together. Nevertheless, it nowadays raises strong protest from the public. And from my point of view, bullfighting will be banned sooner or later for the following several reasons.First and foremost, it is normally fatal for the bull. It is criticized by many animal rights activists, referring to it as a cruel or barbarous blood sport, in which the bull suffers severe stress and a slow, torturous death, and now the against voice is getting louder and stronger, raising the concern of animals. Many of my friends, when they watch the tragic scene, they will be full of sadness, and think it’s so lamentable. Each of us should realize that we all live in a society where men and animals should have equal rights. We should not be the conqueror of animals, but the friends of them. However, reviewing the history, how can we hurt our friends without any sense of sin or regret? How can we have the heart continuing to do this without human virtue? How can we even view it as a noble tradition? As Confucius says, "what you do not want done toyourself, do not do to others". Animals are so precious for us; they are part of the world and have their own freedom, so what we should do is to protest and love them, not hurt them.Secondly, it is dangerous for the matador. Sometimes when I see these tragic scenes, I think that those matadors deserve it even to death as they indeed lose their humanity. However, in fact, my true feeling is that I really pity them. During bullfighting, some matadors even have been gored many times, so their bodies were marred by many ugly scars. The more horrific of bullfighting injuries, such as the May 2010 piercing of matador Julio Aparicio's chin by a bull's horn. Some are even killed by the bulls. Just because bullfighting is seen as a symbol of Spanish culture, matador can earn money in this way; they devoted themselves to it at the cost of their life. How can the world be so hard to them? Therefore, it is not their fault, but the fault of our whole human beings, so what we should do is to value human rights and gives them a pleasant life. Thirdly, it is a protest against the behavior of human civilization. Bullfighting is a particular product of a particular stage in history. At that time, the bullfight is more of a ritual which is judged by aficionados based on artistic impression and command, and bullfighting is seen as a symbol of Spanish culture. However, with the development of history, human civilization has entered another stage of development. Barbarism is not suitable to the development of the human race any more. Just likemuch other culture dross, they are the remains generated in the progress of human, and they will finally die in the way of human civilization. Therefore, in order to create a new, harmonious, civilized society, what we should do is to abandon the dregs, rather than inherit.Last but not least, it has caused many problems. On one part, it may damage human spirit. Can you imagine that your children, who are very naïve and lovely, when they see the cruel sanguinary scene, can they still be innocent? At this rate, it may cause many irreconcilable conflicts. On the other part, it leads to extravagant squander on resources. As we all know, Spain has faced a big challenge during the Economic crisis, and Bullfighting is financed with public money. During the economic crisis, Spanish bullfighting audiences are shrinking as the unemployment rate grows and anti-bullfighting calls increase. Therefore, how can Spain spare much more to invest bullfighting without caring its people’s life? If Spain continues to view bullfighting as a symbolic culture, those who hate brutal things may keep arm's length with Spain and it may be looked upon by many other Justice areas. In the end, even though many supporters of bullfighting regard it as a deeply ingrained, integral part of their national cultures. Bullfighting should be banned as it is normally fatal for the bull but it is also dangerous for the matador; it is a protest against the behavior of human civilization and has caused many problems. If we want to live a moreharmonious life, just ban it!。
