这是一项长期而又琐碎的工作。
但是作为初学者我们只有积累大量的纯正语句和词汇才能在需要的时候能够根据自己的需要调出合适的语句，它还可以帮助我们在头脑中建立这门语言的模型帮助我们形成语感。
如果我们能有一个好的记忆方法，或者换句话说如果我们会记单词、词组和语法，这将对学任何一门语言来说都是一个很强的优势。
一、背单词的第一步就是学会它的读音。
正确模仿磁带中的标准发音，反复地、大声地读，有时读只要会读了，一遍就可以将单词记住。
因为发音就是由组成单词的字母决定的。
有些字母只能发某个音、有些发音一般就是某些固定的字母组合的发音。
读顺了，读熟了，一边读一边也就能把字母写出来了。
根据发音记单词还有一个很大的好处就是可以帮助检查是否有拼写错误。
平时学生经常容易错或混淆的一些单词，只要能按发音记肯定错不了。
如free 和feel, tried和tired,quiet和quite, broad和board等。

音发音非常好把握，发/p/这个音的一定是字母p, 再举几个例子：/b/-b, /t/-t或tt, /g/-g, /v/-v或f, /r/-r, /j/-y. 辅音中也有几个字母组合发同样的音，但是并不难记。
如:
/k/-k,c,q,ck,ch; /m/-m,mm,mn; /n/-n,nn,kn等。
平时记单词时多留意就自然能记住了。
另外也不能不注意到一些单词中有字母不发音的如hour这个单词中h不发音。
government中n不发音。
bomb 中，后一个b不发音。
拼写时也千万不能漏了。
二、要仔细理解思考，初次接触一个单词时，要看清每个发音，形成正确的印象。
要在理解后记住词性，这对实际的应用会很有帮助，在记词性的过程中还要思考具体的用法或相关的语法。
如遇到名词的话我们要想想它可数还是不可数，这关系到在用的时候加不加、能不能加a或s。
课本上单词表中出现的单词都会给出出自哪个单元或者哪一页，预习时读完单词带着问题去看课文，看看在课文中这些词是怎么用的，基本上可不可数是容易看出来的。
而且预习一遍自己思考得出的东西，更加容易记住。
三、最好是把单词放在例句或者文章中记忆。
仅仅记住的单词的拼写、词义和词性，对于这个单词的掌握来讲是不完整的。
单词的用法不仅要看词义词性，还要看搭配。
有些单词有同义单词，几个单词的中文意思相似，但是其包含的一些细微的差别决定了并不是随便用哪个都可以，要根据需要选词。
举个例子，几个表示“花”的动词初中阶段常考，但是很多学生还是常常搞不清楚。
这几个词分别是spend, take, cost。
而用起来个个都不同：sb. spend 钱/
时间doing / on sth.; it takes sb.时间to do; sth. cost sb. 钱。
也就是说spend用于钱或时间都可以，意思是某人花钱或时间做某事或在某事、物上，动词要用doing。
take只能用于时间，主语是it或者是某件事。
cost用于某物花了某人多少钱。
所以当我们翻译时不能看到“花”字就随手写一个想到的，而要考虑到他们内在的区别。
如果能在语篇中记忆，就有了实在具体的例子，单词的具体用法不会模糊也不是死记硬背了。
以后在任何情况下遇到学过的单词都是一种复习，反复强化，单词便能从瞬间的、短暂的记住变为永久的记住，即使遗忘也可以在很短的时间内重新拾起来。
四、是要有检查和反馈。
一方面，只背不查那自己的印象中还是自己记下的东西，要和正确的单词做比对，仔细核查才能知道是否正确无误地将单词背出来了。
如果记错了还有一个更正的机会，改变原有的错误印象。
另外一方面，记住的东西会在不同的时间段后会有不同程度的遗忘，反复检查可以帮助记忆。
五、尽量在课堂或生活中运用。
每一次的运用都是对大脑的一次刺激，都会留下印象，积极地参与和思考能让自己对所学的东西留下更加深刻的印象也更不容易遗忘。
所以有些学生课堂上老师教读一遍，讲解一遍，自己在脑海中就迅速理解。
出现不同形式的练习后积极解答便得到了巩固。
通过完成家庭作业中的习题也能得到反馈，知道自己是否会用。
所以他们不需要额外花多少时间，只是利用好了课堂时间以及统一的学习资料。
生活当中也有很多学以致用的机会，广告牌、标识语、英文电影或歌曲等等总会碰到自己认
识的，在生活中碰到更是容易记住。
即使遇到新单词也不妨把他们记下来扩大词汇量，要知道单词是知道的越多越好。
六、了解一些常用或者常见的前缀及后缀，巧背单词。
一方面
同一个词缀在不同的单词中发音是一样的或者相似的，记下他们的拼写能将单词化长为短。
如后缀-ness，当我们记kindness, sadness, happiness ……这些单词的时候我们只需要记住前面的词根即可，而这些词根往往又是我们已经学过的或者并不难的一些单词。
另外一方面，不同的词缀作用不同，一些可以改变词义，如dis-, un-, im-, in-, ir-等有“不”的意思。
like(喜欢)加上dis后变为dislike 就是不喜欢的意思。
honest(诚实的)，dishonest(不诚实的)。

些词缀可以改变单词的词性，上面提到的kind, sad, happy这些
形容词加上后缀-ness后变为名词，意思也相应的由原来的形容词
的意思变化为名词而已。
掌握词缀后对记忆单词真的是大有好处。
因为我们只要知道了词根的意思就可以根据它们直接来猜测单词
的意思，虽不一定能猜的百分之百精确，但是猜个大概还是不成问题的。
会学习则能学的比别人轻松。
如果想要花更少的时间但是取得
比别人更好的效果就要去研究适合自己的方法。
当然再有方法也需要坚持。
英文单词就如汉字一样数量很大，常用的就数以万计，总数更是多。
全部记住是不太可能，但是常用单词记住越多，对于英语学习越有帮助。
只要在学着英语，就应勤记巧记单词。
