As someone who has always found inspiration in powerful speeches, I'm thrilled to recommend a remarkable speech that has deeply impacted me: Steve Jobs' 2005 commencement address at Stanford University. In this speech, Jobs shares three stories from his life, each illustrating an important lesson he learned along the way. 。
The first story is about connecting the dots, whereJobs talks about how seemingly unrelated experiences in his life, such as dropping out of college and taking a calligraphy class, later played crucial roles in the development of Apple's groundbreaking design aesthetic. This story taught me the importance of trusting that the dots will connect in the future, even when they seem disjointed in the present. The second story revolves around love and loss, as Jobs discusses his dismissal from Apple and how it led him to create his own ventures, including NeXT and Pixar. Heemphasizes the significance of persevering through adversity and finding fulfillment in one's work, regardless of setbacks. The third story focuses on death, with Jobs reflecting on his own mortality after being diagnosed with cancer. He urges the graduates to live each day as if it were their last and to pursue their passions fearlessly. This part of the speech resonated with me on a profound level, reminding me to prioritize what truly matters in life.Overall, Jobs' speech is a masterclass in storytelling and inspiration. His words are not only eloquent but also deeply personal, making them all the more impactful. Whenever I need motivation or guidance, I revisit this speech to remind myself of the importance of staying true to my dreams and embracing life's challenges.

Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots.
I dropped out of Reed College after the first six months but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife, except that when I popped out, they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking, "We've got an unexpected baby boy. Do you want him?" They said, "Of course." My biological mother found out later that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college.

After leaving Apple, Jobs founded NeXT Computer in 1985, with $7 million. A year later, Jobs was running out of money, and with no product on the horizon, he appealed for venture capital. Eventually, he attracted the attention of billionaire Ross Perot who invested heavily in the company. NeXT workstations were first released in 1990, priced at $9,999. Like the Apple Lisa, the NeXT workstation was technologically advanced, but was largely dismissed as cost-prohibitive by the educational sector for which it was designed. The NeXT workstation was known for its technical strengths, chief among them its object-oriented software development system. Jobs marketed NeXT products to the financial, scientific, and academic community, highlighting its innovative, experimental new technologies, such as the Mach kernel, the digital signal processor chip, and the built-in Ethernet port. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web on a NeXT computer at CERN

香港迪• I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.
