I really love that one of the guitarist.M: Yeah, it’s from a concert I went to with my elder brother.(Text 5)M: This ring has a style of the 19th century.W: The main character in The Hills wore this k ind of ring. But I don’t think it is to my taste.M: Well, take a look at this CD player. A great bargain today only.(Text 6)W: Your aunt Petra tells me you’ve been working nonstop every day.M: It’s true. Last Saturday, we were busy getting the special s ready when a tourist group showed up. We hadn’t even opened yet, but they would have gone somewhere else if we hadn’t let them in. Uncle Alonzo was running around screaming at the kitchen staff.W: He must be afraid you’ll lose those customers.M: Yes. A nd Aunt Petra was trying to calm him down. The waiters hadn’t arrived yet, so I went out to take the drink orders.W: Had you ever waited tables before that?M: No, I hadn’t.(Text 7)M: Excuse me! Where does the C73 to the city centre stop?W: It doesn’t stop here.M: But this is the bus station, isn’t it?W: Yes, it is. Buses only go to other cities from the bus station. Go over the bridge and turn right. Walk towards the shopping center. The train station will be on your right between the car park and the shopping center.(Text 8)M: Hi, Wanda. Did you have a good vacation?W: Yeah, we had a great time. But I have to tell you the most amazing thing happened!M: Really? What was that?W: Well, I was playing on the beach and a huge wave came along and knocked my sunglasses into the water. It was the expensive sunglasses Roy had given me for my birthday. Anyway, I had to have sunglasses, so I bought another cheap pair. The next day, I was lying on the beach, sunbathing. Then, suddenly another huge wave completely covered me. I was so wet and …M: Are you sure this was a good vacation?W: Yeah — but listen! When I looked down, there on the sand, right next to me, were my expensive sunglasses. I couldn’t believe my eyes!(Text 9)W: How can I help you?M: My name is Karl Fischer. I have an interview at 2:00 with Mr. Welsch. I’m a little bit early.W: Are you here for a job interview?M: That’s right. Have you had a lot of interviews today?W: Well, 8 in total, including you. I think actually that you are the last person Mr. Welsch is going to interview. Right now I need to have you fill out a few forms, if you don’t mind.M: Oh, sure.W: On this form, you need to put your name and address, as well as your telephone number. By the way, are you currently employed?M: Yes, I am. I am currently at the university right now. I’m working on teaching materials development for the Department of English.W: Well, it sounds like you are a good candidate for the job! Do you need a pen?M: No, I have one. Can I just sit over there while I fill out these forms?W: Yes, and I’ll let you know when Mr. Welsch is ready for you.(Text 10)W: This is Suzie Chu on Three Triple Campus Radio. I have the results of the entertainment survey we did last week with the students here at the university. We went into the student union last Thursday, the twenty-fifth of March and interviewed a total of 150 students. 70% of the students we talked to said that they liked going out with friends more than anything else. I had expected them to say doing sports or listening to music or something like that.Next on the list … and I wasn’t surprised at all by this … was watching TV. Most students spent 15 hours a week doing that. Going to the cinema was pretty popular too and so was watching sports, but something that surprised me was that some students considered shopping to be entertainment. So wha t don’t students like doing? Well, although quite a lot of them like acting and even belong to the acting club, surprisingly enough going to the theaterwas not very popular at all. In fact, it came bottom of the list! Why? It could be because a lot of students really do have financial problems. Most students spent between £12 and £35 a week on entertainment and this represents about a quarter of their total budget. The main problem was that there was no transport into the town so it was hard getting to the theater. In fact a lot of students complained about that, so it would be great if there was some way a theater could be built or even just a space set aside for performances here in the student union.。

I hope I can win the competition.Text 5M: I’m going to the caf e. Can I pick up anything for you?W: No, thanks… Isn’t this your second trip there today?I think you drink too much coffee! Text 6W: I’m selling my car.M: But you love your car!W: I know. But now that there’s a bus station near where I live, I don’t need it.M: I didn’t know you liked catching the bus.W: I don’t mind… Because I’ll have to pay a hundred dollars a month for parking, and I think that’s way too much.M: I agree.W: Do you know how I can advertise my car?M: Well, some people put a sign on their car and park it on the street. But it takes a while to sell it that way. It would probably be best to advertise it online.Text 7M: Do you have anything you want to tell me, Ruth?W: No, Mr. Choate. I promise.M: So, if I were to look in your bag, I wouldn’t find anything out of the ordinary?W: Like what? It’s just my book, pencils, and paper s — the usual school stuff.M: Well, it smells like a dog. You know you aren’t allowed to bring pets to school, righ t?W: Of course, I know that. I wouldn’t bring my pet Rex to school. Why would I do that?M: What was that? I just heard a small sound…like a dog’s bark.W: Oh, no! Fine, you caught me. I won’t do it again, I promise. I just missed him, that’s all.M: Very well, young lady. Now, I have to call your parents.Text 8M: Hey there, I’m running for class president.W: Why? So you can put it on your college applications?M: No, so I can make a difference in our school… I hope I can count on your vote in next month’s election.W: Well, you have to earn my vote.M: Of course... Well, first of all, I’m going to improve the school by convincing the administration to have more after-school programs, like sports and clubs.W: Well, that won’t help me. I work after school most days, so I can’t participate in those things.M: Well, another thing I’m going to do is figure out how to get healthier food in the school cafeteria.W: That doesn’t interest me either. I go home for lunch every day.M: Well… How about school dances? I know that you love to dance, and if I’m president, we’ll have one at least once a month.W: Now that sounds like fun! OK. I’ll consider giving you my vote.Text 9W: Welcome back, Larry. It’s been so long! I thought I would never see you again.M: Oh, come on! I told you I’d be back. And here I am. Maybe a little fatter, but it’s still me.W: No, you look great! Nine years in China. That sounds like it would make a good story for a movie.M: Yeah! There are so many fantastic stories to tell.W: Which city were you in?M: Beijing mostly. But I traveled to many different cities during my time there: Shanghai, Kunming, and Chengdu were some of my favorites.W: I’ve heard that some of the hottest food in the world is in Chengdu. I can’t stand al l that hot food.M: There is some seriously hot stuff going on there. But you’ll get used to it. Going to Chengdu and not having hot food is like going to France and not having wine or cheese.W: Well, I’m sure your family is glad to have you back.M: Yes, they are. I am, too, but finding work is not easy.W: I know the feeling. I lost my job a few years ago and was unemployed for 11 months!M: But it seems like everything worked out for you.W: Yeah, I guess so. Well, good luck with the job search. Call me when you have a chance.Text 10“New York City is the greatest city in the world,” said Herman. “I’ve been here my whole life, and I can’t imagine moving anywhere else. We have the best of everything. Don’t you agree? Think about it. We have 8 mi llion friendly people. That’s a lot. Sometimes it can be crowded, but people are generally very nice. We have 10,000 friendly taxicab drivers, even though sometimes I can’t quite understand what they are saying due to their thick New York accents. We have the world’s greatest subway system! Even on weekends when hundreds of trains aren’t running, you can take a cheap train to anywhere in the city. It’s super convenient. We also have the Brooklyn Bridge, the world’s greatest bridge for walking and taking pictures. We have Grant’s Tomb and the Staten Island Ferry —they’re both free! We have the world’s best pizza because it’s made right here in New York City! We have I Love NY T-shirts. We have everything! Who would ever want to go anywhere else?” His friend Maria said, “But there are a lot of other nice cities in the world. Maybe you should visit them to compare.”Herman thought for a moment, and then said, “Why should I visit other cities? People from those cities are out here visiting us. That just proves how great this city is!” Just then, a taxicab drove by and muddy water was all over the two friends. “God, I hate this place!” shouted Herman.。
