A: So what did you do today?B: I went out with Susie.A: Susie?!B: Yeah.A: How long has it been since you've seen Susie?B: Oh, It's been, not that long. Maybe two weeks is all, or so.A: My gosh.B: She's my best friend after all.A: That's true. Yeah. So, what did you do with her today?B: We went to see two movies, and out to eat.A: Two movies?B: Yeah.A: Two?B: Yeah.A: Why?B: We sneaked into the second.A: You don't pay for the second movie?B: Shh...A: Alright, alright, that's OK.B: We were in the theater. We paid for the first one. We just, we can do the second one.A: Sounds like a fun. Yeah. What movies did you see?B: Ah, I knew you were going to ask and I don't remember the names of them.A: They mustn't be very good, huh?B: They weren't very good, either one of them. But it's so much fun to see with her, that I don't really care, if there weren't good. We see, you know we went to lunch afterward, and talked and talked and talked, like we always do.A: Yeah.B: You know, mostly about you.A: How interesting, is that? Yeah, That could be a very boring conversation.B: Not the way I tell it.A: So what other things do you like to do with Susie?B: Well, you know. We exercise together. So that's fun. And we always go for walks. And I like that. We hardly ever talk on the phone. We do e-mail a lot, so.A: That's good.B: Yeah. She is just such a good friend. I just love her so much that... I don't know. I enjoy every thing about her.A: That's nice.B: Yeah.A: Good. OK.A: I had a terrible day today in school.B: Another one? Why?A: The lousy kids are very lazy.B: Seems like you have this problem every year about this time.A: I know. You know we're singing. I mean, my choir is a pretty good choir. And they can be really good if they just apply themselves. But they sit there and they talk, and they do homework, and they just don't care sometimes, and it's really frustrating. And I'm not sure what to do about it. B: Have you sent any of them to the principal's office?A: Yes. It works a little bit. Then they come back. And they're lazy again. So I had the principal come down to the room.B: Good, good.A: And, she talked to them, and, kind of lectured them, kind of yelled at them. You know, it was pretty effective. But I think that the thing that turned it around most was that I finally made them realize that we've got a concert in two weeks. A concert. And when they realize that they might be a little embarrassed if they don't do well, well then they kind of shaped up.B: Does the music have to be memorized?A: Yes it does.B: Oh.A: So I'm testing them on the music tomorrow, and that's going to . . .B: Good.A: You know. Then they'll see if they really know it. If they don't, then they're in big trouble. So that's motivation for them.B: I think they think that choir's an easy A.A: Ah. Yeah.B: Not so easy.A: Not so easy. Yeah. So, I am hoping tomorrow will be better.B: Good.W: So, can you believe that ...brought you a hot air balloon ride?M: It was the best thing in the whole world. I know Abby is very nice to do that. And she took me up and it was amazing.W: Was it scaring?M: First of all yes. I don't like heights, you know, got a little fear of that. And the basket we sat there is pretty small, only three inches between me, and balloon guy. When we went up, we have to get the basket very fast and it kept turning over and it was very scaring. And when we started to go up . I was free, cos ...W: Oh, boy.M: Cos you just can sit there, go up and weigh up and you look down and ...W: Is it loud the ways of ...M: When the fire is up, I don't know what they do. They have to heat it up so that it rises. And it is noisy when that happens. But, then you get used to that it is fast, you relax, and you look out and the way is all trees. And it was really much fun, and it was really cool.W: I heard you saw like deer everywhere.M: Well, over the country flying over the country there are ... all you can see from miles around you can see bunches of farmlands and fields and there have to be three or four dozens deer. W: That is something.M: Yes, and you can see from the ground ...W: Could you see your house?M: Well, we were not in that area but we could see other people's house. No kidding.W: That sounds like fun. How was the landing?M: Well, landing is OK. It is a little scary. They blew up the radar said be prepared for a little bumpy landing and it was. But it was not too bad and kind of fun.W: That was nice to hear that.M: Yes, it was, it was great.Unit 4W: You will not believe who I ran into today?M: Tell me please, who did you run into?W: Vis, from high school.M: Vis? How long has it been since you saw him?W: I think it was the ten-year class reunion.M: Oh, my god.W: And he's in town now for the thirty-year class reunion.M: Wow!W: It was so wonderful to see him. He was he looks exactly the same. It just brought back high school back into my mind completely - all the times we were dancing together, all the times we were doing plays together, and singing in choir together.M: You used to tell me all about Vis. I mean, you told a thousand times all the things you did together. Wow!W: ... is just the nicest, nicest, nicest person.M: Has he changed at all?W: He looks exactly the same, exactly the same. He is a little bit heavier. M: Wow.W: I wouldn't say fat. He is just the same sweet-faced man that I remembered in high school.M: How about his personality? I mean, has it changed at all? Or is he stillfunny, or is he you know?W: Just the same. And it was like we had never even been apart. You know, I mean, here you have twenty years goes by and it's as if no time has gone by at all. And so he gave me his e-mail address.M: Oh, that's great!W: And he's going to e-mail. He lives in Chicago now.M: Chicago?W: Yup. So he's gonna e-mail me and I'm gonna e-mail him and we're gonna try to keep in touch that way.M: That is great. Did you get a phone number from him?W: I didn't get his phone number. But I'll ask him that when we e-mail. M: That's a great idea!W: And he is going to come and see our play.M: How exciting. That'll be great!W: Yeah, isn't that great?M: You know, it has been a long time since I've seen him. I would enjoy that. It would be fun to go out with him after the play, or something like that.W: Exactly.M: OK.W: So we'll do it.M: Great.Unit 5Eh. All right. Ladies and gentleman. Thank you very much for this honor. I feel eh ...That's no good either. OK, here we go. Friends, faculty. Thank you very much for the honor of Teacher of the Year. I'm extremely honored and pleased to accept this award. But you have to know that it has really been a team effort. I would not be where I was if it weren't for the wonderful help and support of my fellow faculty members and the administration, of course, all the students and the parents in the community. And once again, I'm highly honored and I thank you very much for this award. That's pretty good. OK. Yeah, That'll do.Unit 6A: Well, I've been doing some thinking about this issue around human cloning. And I'm trying to make up my mind about it. I'm really not sure what to think about it.B: Yeah, it's a very controversial subject and there is some good things and bad things. I mean... you know. Well, ...A: Let me tell you what I was thinking. First of all, I kind of supporthuman cloning because it seems like it has the potential of solving some real problems for people.B: Well.A: Person needs a heart transplant or liver transplant. If we could develop the technology that will allow the cloning of an organ from my own cells that would not be rejected. That seems a very good thing.B: Yeah. It would be good, but it's awfully expensive, isn't it?A: Well, that's the side of it that I find a little disturbing. And if we need spending that kind of resource on human cloning that may not really work down the road. And that's preventing spending money on things, like clean water or ...B: Social problems.A: Yeah, social problems.B: Help the poor ...A: Help the poor people. I agree that's one of the things that worries me. On the other hand, another thing that worries me about cloning is the possibility of ... Well, they talk about it's sort of a science fiction idea, but cloning complete human beings who are then, what kind of risks do they have, who are these people.B: I don't, I think you are talking about playing God and I just think that's going somewhere we shouldn't go.A: It does. It really worries me. But you know, these technologies, they, they have their strong points and they have their weak points. And I think all in all, we should pursue understanding. And so I like to see us go a little bit further in terms of understanding human cloning before we really come up with a decision.B: yeah. I don't think we know enough yet to say that it's a bad thing for sure.A: Huh. Well that's the conclusion I come up with.B: It's a good one.Unit7A: So tell me, you know, it seems to me that a year ago or so you were talking about Julie. Having met Julie? I wonder what happened with that relationship?B: Julie, Julie, Julie. Julie was a really cool person. She was very nice, very attractive. I was really attracted to her. And so we, you know, we work together. It's a little awkward because of that, but I asked her out on a date. We went out, had a great time, and it, it developed into a pretty serious relationship.A: I remember that a year ago you were talking about Julie all the time. B: Well, we were thinking, you know, we got really serious. We even talked about marriage, we talked about kids. I mean, you know, we got into it big time, and, and at one point, I thought this is the woman I am going to marry. How about that? Huh? But as we got to know each other even further, the relationship kind of, I don't know, deteriorated.A: What seemed to happen?B: Well, I realized that she and I really didn't have that much in common. A: Ahhh.B: I think it was the physical attraction you know, at first, you know, that made things click. And, but she's, she doesn't have the same beliefs about religion that I do. She really doesn't share all those interests that I do, like my sports, my racket ball, and I happen to like choral music, and she really can't stand choral music, you know, those kinds of things. So,we just kind of separated and went further apart.A: I see.B: Got further apart.A: Well, how do you feel about that now, now that it's a year later?B: Well, I, I really like her still and I see her almost everyday. And she's great. Now, and now we're friends. I mean we've got into a place where we can say hello to each other and even kid around and joke with each other.A: That's great! That's great.B: It's a lot of fun. And I even had lunch together with her the other day. A: Well, cool, terrific. That's great.B: I took her to lunch the other day. We are just friends and it's a, it's a real nice relationship.A: Well I'm glad it all seems to have worked out well.B: Yeah. Yeah. Did great.A: Good.Unit 8A: Hello. I'm having problems with my computer, and I was wondering if you could help me.B: I'll be happy to try.A: Here is the situation. I am on the Internet, and about every minute or so, it just kicks me off, just shuts down. I don't know what to do. It's very frustrating.B: It sounds really bad. Tell me a little more. Is there any message on the screen at the time it shuts down?A: A little window pops up that says: “Your computer is going to shut down in one minute”. I don't know what that is.B: Ah! Well, I do! Because we've heard a lot of that complaint.A: Oh good. So I think you can help me here?B: Oh, yes. Fortunately, this is not a serious problem. It's very annoying as you described.A: You bet it is.B: Yes, but the solution is fairly easy. Do this if you would, please.Disconnect your computer from the Internet.A: OK.B: Once you do that, you will be able to turn your computer on and it will not shut off at that point.A: OK. All right.B: Then what you are going to need to do is to find somebody else who has the blaster worm virus removal tool.A: Wait a second, blaster worm virus removal tool.B: That's right!A: OK.B: And that program you can load on to your computer and run it.A: I don't suppose I can download that program, can I?B: Well, you can, but you'll have to do it very quickly, because as you say, ...A: Oh, that's right!B: Your computer will shut off on the Internet in a minute, and so you'll need to do it quickly. I have had people been, they've been able to do it. A: So it's best if I can find it from a friend or something like that?B: It's better if you can. It's easier if you can find it from a friend.A: Can I buy it in the store too, that program?B: Yes, it's usually available now in the computer shops. They have this to fix computers.A: OK, all right.B: All right, just run that program. It will take about 10 minutes or so to run. It will clean off your computer, and then be sure to upgrade your computer and get the patch.A: All right. Wait a second, which patch were you talking about?B: There is a patch provided by Microsoft.A: OK.B: It will prevent this problem from happening in the future.A: Great. Wow, I really appreciate this, because it was just driving me crazy. I was very frustrated and it sounds like it's going to be really easy to fix.B: OK, good luck.A: Thank you very much!B: You're welcome.A: Bye!B: Bye!Unit 9A: All right, so I loaned Abigail my favorite CD.B: Your favorite one?A: The 'Allison Krauss' one, and she lost it.B: You are kidding me? How did she lose it? Do you know?A: How do you lose anything? I don't know. She ...She promised. She had said "could I just take it on the way to work and I promise I will bring it right back" and somewhere between here and work she lost it.B: Oh.A: And I don't know what to do because she doesn't have any money, and I really, really want it replaced. But ...you know. It cost $14.99. It was kind of expensive. I don't usually spend that much on a CD. But I really, really wanted it.B: I think it is too bad that she lost it. But I also think she's got to replace it. I mean, come on, you got to be a responsible person.A: I know but she doesn't have any money.B: Well. Here is what you could do. Make her pay it back to you on time or something. You can buy it. You know, we can afford it. You can buy it and then make her ...A: That's ...B: You know, make her give you five bucks a week, or something like that.A: That's a good idea. That's a good idea. I am not lending it to her again.B: Well, I don't blame you. I wouldn't let her borrow anything anymore. This is the third time this has happened. So ...A: Yeah, you are right. She is very irresponsible, how does she lose it from her car, house to the car to work?B: I don't know.A: I don't even think she takes it out of her car.B: Yeah.A: Somehow they always disappear.B: Yeah, don't let her borrow anything again.A: Right.B: It's the easiest way.A: Right.Unit 10A: How's school going?B: It's going great.A: Good.B: I specially like my drama class.A: Theater?B: Yeah.A: Really?B: I thought I was gonna hate it. I thought I was gonna be so scared and worried but it's so much fun.A: Alright, you got to tell me about that. Why is it so good?B: We played these stupid theater games. And I thought I would hate them.A: Yeah.B: And I thought I would be embarrassed. But I am not. They are really fun. They really do sort of get you to express yourself better and to be more comfortable in a crowd. And they really they really work.A: Well certainly you have expressed interest in being able to do that a little better, you've always been uncomfortable with that.B: I've always been scared of talking in front of people, and get up in front of people, and I am doing it.A: Congratulations.B: But you know there are some people who just won't. They won't get up and do it.A: Are they in your class?B: Yes, and they are flunking the class. They are failing.A: What's gonna happen to them?B: Well, I don't know if she...if the professor's gonna kick them out.A: I think that's what she should do.B: Well, except...A: Get rid of them.B: Well, they paid for the class.A: Well.B: But they are not doing anything. They are just sitting there. She'll have an exercise we‘ll have to do we'll do we do this human chain where we wrap ourselves around each other. And they won't do it. They'll just sit in their chairs.A: What kind of fun is that? It wrecks the class for everybody.B: Exactly.A: Yeah.B: Fortunately, they're not loud and obnoxious about it, but they are definitely not participating and they are definitely failing the class. She posts our grades right up on the door.A: Wow, how are you doing?B: I am getting an A.A: Well, that doesn't surprise me.B: Oh, I really like it, I really like the teacher, and I really like everything we are learning. And I've learned all about different plays. . .A: Wow.B: And some musicals that she talks about sometimes.A: You know this sounds like a class I might want to take.B: I think you'd love it.A: Good. I am gonna do that.B: Yeah.Unit 11A: You'll never believe what happened to me at school today.B: Ooh, what?A: Dana, OK. I like Dana normally.B: Yeah. That's what I thought.A: But she got furious at me today. She got totally mad.B: What did you do?A: It was just ridiculous why she got mad. Somebody at... in the office rearranged the all the mailboxes because, they, you know, we have more, different people working there now so that had to re-alphabetize all the mailboxes.B: Oh, OK.A: So I went to the office, just, you know, as I always do in the morning, I grabbed my mail, Ithought that was my mail, but I grabbed Dina's mail. So I took it to my office and just laid it down because I had a bunch, I had a bunch of things to do. And,...eh, so Dana couldn't find her mail. When she found out I had it, she went ballistic on me.B: Wait a minute, how did she even know that you had it?A: Well, I don't know how she figured it out. I mean, my mailbox is right next to hers. So I think what she did was, she went and saw Frank. Frank didn't have it. And she came to me. And I looked at my mail. It was on my desk. I said: “Oh, I've got your mail. Sorry about that, Dina.” An d she went crazy. She got really mad at me. And I apologized. I said: “I am sorry. It was just an accident.” But, you know ...I don't get it sometimes.B: That is ridiculous. She must have been having a bad day about something else.A: Maybe that is it.B: You know, because nobody gets that angry over mail.A: Well, not usually. But she was really mad. I apologized. She, you know, she got her mail ...and ...B: Did she calm down?A: Yeah, she did. Eventually.B: OK.A: I think she is ok now. But ...it was really a surprise when she got that mad and I don't get it. B: I hate to think what she does to her students.A: No, no, thanks. I don't want to go there. So, she is ok though. We're fine.B:OK. Well ...Unit12A: Where do you see us in ten years, you know, when the kids are all grown and gone? And, probably we can retire? What do you think we are going to do?B: Wow! I haven't thought about that too much. That will be a huge change.A: I know. I know.B: Well. I want to go to New York.A: Ah, me too.B: It would be fun to be able to even, maybe have a place in New York, that we can split our time between...you know...A: Do you think we can afford just, maybe a part-time place there.B: I don't know. That will be very exciting. Very expensive, but very exciting.A: I know. Do you think we'll stay in this house?B: Yeah, I think so.A: Because if we stay here, we've got a lot of things we have to fix.B: Oh, that's true.A: We've got to get new carpeting ...B: Oh ...A: We've got to get a new furnace ...B: Yeah, the furnace is about ready to go, isn't it?A: Yeah, we may have to get that long before we ever think of moving. We are going to have to get...I'd like to turn one of the bedrooms, as long as the kids are gone, into a computer room. B: Oh, that will be great! Have a place where we can keep it so it's not in the way any more.A: Exactly!B: I love that idea!A: And clear out all the crap! Won't that be great?B: That will really be fun! Yeah! But, I don't know, maybe we should do some more traveling.A: That would be wonderful.B: I mean we've always wanted to go to London. I think we should do this.A: OK!B: All right.。

Could you give me a few pointers?B: I'd be happy to. Why don't you hold it and just do as I say and I think that'll ... You'll be able to figure it out pretty quickly.B: First of all, that little button on the top right, is the power switch. You press it and it comes up. A: Look at that.B: All right? The next thing you want to look at is that bottom part on the screen where all the icons are.A: I see.B: All right? And you see there's a house icon?A: Uh huh.B: That takes you home.A: OK.B: And so if you tap it with stylus, there you get to see all the programs that are on there.A: I see.B: And then you can see one that has the numerical symbols ...or the arithmetic symbols, excuse me ... Tap that, you get a calculator.A: OK, great.B: And then the screen just looks like a calculator, and you can use it as you would any other calculator.A: OK. I see.B: Got the idea?A: I understand.B: Now, you'll notice at the very bottom the case there are a bunch of switches that you can press. A: Uh huh.B: And those take you to the applications that you will use most frequently.A: OK, great.B: So the left most one has a sort of picture of calendar - that takes you to your calendar.A: I see.B: OK. And then the one with a picture of a phone takes you to your telephone list.A: OK, great.B: Your address list. And then there is one with ... That looks like little check boxes? That takes you to your To-Do-List.A: OK, I see.B: And then right most button is where you take notes.A: Oh, great. Well, that really gets me started that I'll be ... Have to start putting my phone numbers and to-do-list in here and get it filled up.B: OK. I think you'll enjoy it once you learn how to use it.A: Thanks for the tips.B: You're welcome.第四单元A: Hi, Dr. Banghart.B: Yes.A: I'm really not feeling well at all, and the medicine you gave me isn't doing any good at all.B: Oh, I'm really sorry to hear that. Remind me again of what your, your first symptoms were? A: Well, I have ... My chest hurts, and my throat is sore. And I kind of have a stuffy nose, and a little bit of an earache.B: I see, I see. Is it hard to breathe?A: It's not really hard to breathe, but it ... Whenever I breathe, I cough.B: You cough. Is there any pain associated with your breathing?A: Only in my chest, it hurts a little bit, yes.B: It does, it does. All right, well, I want you to continue to take the medication that I gave you. A: OK. Well, I've taken it for three days and it doesn't seem to be doing any good at all.B: Well, I understand. The literature suggests that four to seven days it may take to really do this if it's what we think it is.A: OK, OK, I see.B: So be sure to keep taking that medication. Uh, I'm thinking that you could also ... Do you have a humidifier in your house?A: Yes, I do.B: OK, because we want to make sure that the air isn't too dry in your house.A: OK, now it's a warm air humidifier. Is that all right?B: That would be the best. That's actually very good. That's very good. And that might give you some comfort until the medication really starts working. OK?A: OK, great. Thank you so much.B: And if it, if it still is bad in another day or two, better, better make an appointment and come in, and we will take some closer look.A: Great, I will do that.B: OK.A: Thank you very much.B: I'm sorry you are not feeling better but I'm sure you will soon.A: Thank you. Do you like the area?B: It's wonderful. I love your house. (A: Thank you!) It's just... I can't believe how long it took me to actually get here.A: I know.B: But, I'm here now. And what I was thinking. I know you've got to go run some errands. I wanted to just drive around a little bit, see what your neighborhood's like, (A: Great! Great!) Maybe I can cook the dinner tonight, 'cause... that's all.A: That's so maze. You want me to tell where some shopping is?B: Great, yeah!A: OK, there is a real close store, if you just go out of the neighborhood here, and then make a left, on Elmwood.B: As I wind around, that's the road I turned off to get here, OK?A: Yes, yes. You take all the way in and you will run into a big grocery store, and a mall, so you can go clothes shopping, too.B: Well.A: And if you really want some like specialty things, like some good breads, from the mall, you'll make a right, (B: OK) and that's Saginaw. You go down Saginaw, and on your left, will be a bakery.B: Oh, perfect.A: Has lots of good bread and cakes and all sorts of delicious things.B: I was thinking maybe salmon, you know, a big salad and some good bread, and there (A: That sounds wonderful) you go. Maybe pick up a little ... Something sweet for dessert.A: Yes, yeah, thank you. That would be really nice. So I have to run, OK?B: OK.A: So thank you so much.B: I will see you, I don't know what, an hour?A: Probably an hour and a half. OK?B: OK!第六单元A: Hello.B: Hi, I missed you at the party the other day.A: Oh, hey, I am sorry I couldn't make it; you know how I was sick all last weekend.B: Oh, total bummer.A: How was it?B: It was great. I was so surprised. I can't believe they'd do that for me. It was so great.A: Yeah, I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you had a happy birthday.B: Oh, I had a great birthday. It was really fun. Yeah, I got a karaoke machine!A: Oh, wow, that's great!B: So the rest of the party kind of ended up revolving around the karaoke machine, and a little bit too much alcohol, and you know, it was a good time.A: Oh, that sounds fun. So, who all was there?B: Well, let's see, Angie came, and Dave and Tom came, and Amy came all the way from Arizona. A: Wow, it must have been great to see her again.B: I haven't seen her in so long. It was wonderful.A: Wow, that sounds like a really fun party. I'm sorry I missed it. Yeah, I wish you'd been there. Well, I'll come to the next one. OK, I am sure there will be another one. Well, I'll talk to you later. B: OK, see you later.A: Bye.B: Bye.第七单元A: I'm a little embarrassed, but um, so you know, I'm on my own for the first time, and my mom always did my grocery shopping for me, and I got some like major food shopping to do... any advice?B: Oh, you haven't really been shopping before on your own, hu ... OK, well, I can give you a few pointers I think. Um, you want to the big grocery store, right? And, um, what you'll need to do, before you go shopping, it's important to make a list. It's a mistake I make sometimes, is you don't make a list before you go and then you come back, and you didn't get everything you needed. So you want to make sure that you make your list, as far as what cooking you want to do, and other things you need and things like that. And then, try to organize the list in terms of parts of the store, so that you can, you know, do your shopping more efficiently, as you move around the store, you know, so you don't have to go back and forth across the store.A: The less walking the better.B: Exactly, exactly, and that way it's quicker and everything like that, so. That'll be good. Um, you want to make sure that you do some comparison when you're pricing. Compare prices and make sure that you're getting the best product for the value, so look at, you know, how much you're getting, and the quality and the price, and uh, you know the products that are similar are all there right next to each other, so it's easy for you to compare and make sure you're getting the best value for your money. And, um, I would get the cheapest brands usually, because usually ...A: Don't they taste worse or anything?B: No, not usually. They taste about the same, and uh, you're really just paying more for, you know, the packaging and things like that, so ...A: That's true.B: Um, so, yeah, and then afterwards you just bring it up, you, you know, they'll bring it up for you, and bag it for you, and then you just take your bags and bring it home.A: OK.B: So, and just make sure you put the cold things in the refrigerator right away, or else they'll spoil, so ...A: Right! Thank you.B: Well, good luck with that.A: Very helpful, thank you.第八单元A: Hey, Abby, how is it going?B: Pretty good, how are you?A: Oh, I'm OK, I'm OK. I just called cause I need some advice. I just hung up the phone with my dad. And we kind of had an argument.B: What was it about?A: Well, I needed to borrow some more money from him. You know how it is, being a college student - always need more money.B: I understand.A: Yeah, but he doesn't like the way I spend my money. He thinks I've been pretty irresponsible. And so we kind of got into an argument about that. I'm feeling kind of bad. And I was wondering if you had any advice, or maybe what I should do.B: Well, I'm wondering how the conversation ended, it sort of ended badly, or you guys fightingwhen you hung up the phone?A: Yeah, yeah, it ended pretty badly, yeah.B: Well, you know, I would call him back. I think the more you talk, the better, the better it can get. You know, you are an adult, you live your own life, and I think how you spend your money is probably valid, and you just try to convince him of that.A: Hmm, it seems like a good idea. But, he's pretty, he's pretty set his way, I think he, I don't know if he'd really listen to that, or change his mind, I don't know if that would work.B: Can you go without the money?A: Hmm, I don't know, I really need it. I was hoping to, you know, go up to the city this weekend and have a good time, and I'm really just too broke to do that.B: Well, you may just have to give that up for one weekend to kind of stand up for yourself. Kind of win the fight.A: Yeah, maybe it's worth it. I guess maybe I have to adjust my life style a little bit.B: Maybe I can treat you to movie.A: Oh, that would be great. Maybe that'd make me feel better. So you think I should probably call him back?B: Yeah, call him back, just talk it over. It's always better have things settled.A: You know, I think you're right. That's what I will do. Well, thanks a lot, Abby.B: No problem.A: I'll see you later.B: Bye.A: Bye.第九单元A: OK, I am going to tell you the worst travel experience I ever had.B: OK.A: OK. I am flying from the Bahamas to Florida, and we're in a little plane, that's got like ten seats in it. So, already I'm scared because I hate little planes. And we're flying toward Miami, and I look out the window, if I could look out of the window, because the plane is going like this, and bouncing up and down, and up and down, and we are being thrown back and forth. And I look out the window, and there is a tornado hitting the Miami airport. The one we're supposed to be flying into. So we circled around the ocean, and tried... Circled around the ocean again, we circled around the ocean again; I thought we were going to land in the ocean. So we ended up having to land in Fort Lauderdale, which is a long ways from Miami, and my plane was supposed to ... my connection is supposed to be in Miami. So we ended up having to spend the night in Fort Lauderdale, and my sister in law is praying and crying on the plane, I am holding Jeff's hand so tightly, that I think we are going to die, and he says, "don't worry, be calm, look at how calm the pilot is, he is so calm." We land the plane, I go up to the pilot and I say, were we OK, was everything safe? And he said, "I have never been so scared in my entire life." OK. Try to top that. B: No, I haven't got a chance.第十单元A: hello dadB: yesA: Hi, how’s it going?B: Oh, all right, how are you?A: I am pretty well, pretty well. I just wanted to call …you know how I was looking for an apartment.B: YeahA: yeah,I just …I saw an ad in the paper that sounded good, I wanted to let you know about it. B: Well, I’d like to hear about it.A: Well, it’s a two-bed apartment ,and it’s on lake Lansing ,right on the lake .so that sounds nice .and it’s got a lot of amenities. It’s got air conditioning, washer and drier, dishwasher, so that’s good…B: And what’s the rent?A: It’s only 665 a month.B: Six hundred sixty five dollars a month, for rent right on Lake Lansing, that sounds really nice …does that include utilities?A: I’m not sure, I’ll have to call and ask about that, but I think either way it sounds like a good deal.B: Mum.A: Another thing that is nice is it actually has a boat dock.B: A boat dock? Well, that sounds like fun ,are you going to get a boat?A: Year, I think I might get a small boat, maybe go out on the lake with my friends or something B: Well, that sounds good.A: Yeah, I think it sounds good.B: Well, how about …are you going to need any help with the security deposit?A: Actually, that’s another great thing about it .it says no security deposit with approved credit so ,and my credit’s pretty good, so I think I should be able to do it without that .B: Oh, that’s real good.A: So, yeah, I just wanted to let you know about that. looks like… looks like my search for an apartment has come to an end.B: Well, that’s good to hear. Well, thanks for calling and telling me about itA: Sure, I’ll keep you posted .talk to you laterB: Ok.bey第十一单元A: So where are you living now?B: I'm living at home right now. Trying to save some money while I'm in school.A: Sure, sure, that's good. How long have you been living at home?B: Well, I moved out for a while, and lived in an apartment, and then I came back. And so I've been living here for about a year.A: Oh, OK, great, so you are from around here originally?B: Yeah. Born and raised in Lansing.A: Oh, OK, great, wow. So, do you think you gonna live here for a while longer or do you think you're going to move somewhere else?B: Probably, for another year or so, so I can save some money, while I am going to school.A: Sure, sure.B: But ideally, ideally, ideally, I would like to live in New York City.A: Oh, wow.B: Yeah.A: Big city.B: I would love to live there, like right downtown, in an apartment, just so I could step outside and be in the city.A: Wow, that sounds great, be really close to everything, huh?B: I would love to, yes.A: So, you think in a few years you think you are going to try to move out there?B: In a few years, that's the plan, yeah.A: Wow, that sounds great.B: Look, I'll have to save up a lot of money, because, you know, that's expensive, very expensive to live there.A: It is expensive, in New York City, it's true.B: But you know, hopefully I could you know, pursue the theatre, and just...I live the dream.A: Sure, that sounds great, that sounds great. Well, I hope you make it.B: Thanks. I'll try第十二单元A: So, Rick, what is the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?B: Hmm, now you might ... This might not seem so weird, but I once tried escargot.A: Hum. How were the snails?B: Well, they weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, but I don't know if I'd try them again.A: Yeah, I don't think I could do the snail thing.B: Uh uh.A: Do you usually like foods that are from, you know, other countries, foreign foods?B: Sure. I like to try different things; I like to try foods from Asia, and Europe, interesting things that I haven't tried before.A: I really like Middle Eastern cuisine.B: Oh, yeah, I think that's the best, yeah, absolutely.A: I am not a big meat eater, and they have a lot of really good like lentils and vegetable things. B: Sure, a lot of good vegetarian foods. Yeah, yeah, that's good stuff, that's good stuff. Would you say that's your favorite, do you think?A: I think Chinese food might be my favorite.B: Mm, yeah, Chinese food is pretty great第十三单元A: So, I hear you're looking for a new job.B: Yeah, I just graduated, and so, I've got my certificate in massage therapy, and I'm looking for a job.A: Looking for a job as a massage therapist?B: Yeah, I was thinking maybe something in a spa, because it's a really nice relaxing environment. A: Yeah, that sounds like a good kind of environment to work in. How much do you think you'd be getting paid?B: I'm not sure, I think depending on how high class this spa is or how nice it is, I could probably get 30 dollars an hour, maybe more.A: Oh, wow, it's not too bad, yeah. You'd do pretty well that way.B: Give an hour massage, get 30 dollars.A: Mmm, that sounds great, that sounds great. So, are there any spas around here, or do you think you'd have to move? Have to relocate.B: Well, there's a really nice one called the "Yellow Strawberry" and it's downtown, and that might be really nice. Honestly, if I had to ... If I had to drive a long way, I don't think I'd ever go to work. So I am not willing to commute, so I would really like to find something around here.A: I see. So if you couldn't find something around here, and you don't want to commute, would you be willing to relocate, you think?B: Yeah, yeah, I would be willing to move, I am pretty open right now, so I could move.A: That sounds good. Well, I hope you find something. I'm sure ... I'm sure that they are looking for people, so good luck.B: Thank you。
