There were tons of interactive exhibits where we could do experiments and learn about scientific concepts through play.I built a mini roller coaster to learn about velocity and acceleration. I also encoded secret messages using binary code. Who knew science could be so much fun?We even got to watch an amazing 3D movie about the origins of the universe at the museum's IMAX theater. Soaring through galaxies and nebulae on that huge screen felt like I was in outer space! The special effects were mind-blowing.Throughout the day, we attended some workshops by real scientists and engineers too. A marine biologist taught us about ocean conservation efforts. A computer programmer showed us the basics of coding. And a chemist let us make our own slime! Talking to experts in their fields was super inspiring.By the end of the trip, my brain was bursting with new knowledge and my feet were sore from all the walking. But it was totally worth it! I'll never forget watching that comet simulation,assembling a robot arm, or stepping through a vacuum chamber. This trip made me love science even more.On the bus ride back to school, I could barely keep my eyes open. I was completely exhausted but incredibly happy. We'd never really traveled much outside of Shanghai before. This was going to be an adventure to remember.Our first stop was Beijing. I'd learned all about the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Great Wall in my history and geography classes, but actually being there in person was mindblowing. The Forbidden City was like a real-life museum, with its bright red walls, ornate roofs, and all those amazing relics from ancient times.At Tiananmen Square, I couldn't believe just how massive it was - the biggest public plaza in the world! It's hard to picture just how many people that open space can hold. And then there was the Gate of Heavenly Peace with its iconic portrait of MaoZedong. I felt so small standing under it, but also proud to be Chinese.The real highlight though was hiking a section of the Great Wall. Some parts were super steep and difficult to climb, but the views from the top were breathtaking. I could look out for miles across the surrounding mountains and valleys. No wonder it's considered one of the great wonders of the world! My legs were jelly afterwards but it was so worth it.From Beijing, we drove west towards Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors. Along the way, the scenery changed from the flat plains around Beijing to rugged, rolling hills and farm fields. I'll never forget the first glimpse I got of the warriors - thousands of life-sized statues assembled in battle formation, each with a unique facial expression and details. It was like being transported back 2,000 years to ancient China. Simply incredible.The food in Xi'an was delicious too. My favorite was the lamb skewers Dad got from a street vendor. So tender and full of flavor from the special spices. And then there were those nourishing, stretchy noodles Xi'an is famous for. Slurping them up made the biggest satisfying noise!Our next destination was Chengdu to visit family and see the famous pandas. I have an aunt, uncle and cousins living there soit was amazing to meet up with them after so long apart. They took us to the best hot pot restaurants - I'd never had such delicious spicy broth before! And don't even get me started on the little steamed buns stuffed with sweet pork. My mouth is watering just thinking about them...But as great as the food was, nothing could top our day at the Chengdu Panda Research Base. Seeing those gentle, bamboo-munching giants up close was a dream come true. They looked so cuddly and soft but the zookeeper told us their jaws were strong enough to crush bamboo trunks! We even got to prepare some panda snacks by smashing bamboo and spreading out some vitamin supplements. Meeting those endangered creatures was an experience I'll never forget.From Chengdu, we drove southwest towards the scenic town of Dali in Yunnan province. The winding mountain roads were a little scary at times with all the hairpin turns, but the views of the jade-colored lakes and limestone hills made it so worthwhile. Dali itself was like a real-life fairy tale town with its cobblestone streets, traditional white-washed houses, and ancient pagodas.We took a boat tour across Erhai Lake one day and the water was so crystal clear you could see straight down to the bottom. Our guide pointed out beautiful Butterfly Spring near theshoreline, where millions of butterflies are said to go to rest. I didn't spot any that day but it was still serene and picturesque.Our final stop was the bustling city of Kunming, also in Yunnan. By that point we'd traveled over 3,000 kilometers from Shanghai! One of the biggest highlights in Kunming was visiting the breathtaking Stone Forest. It's this bizarre landscape of karst rock formations, some shaped like petrified trees and others like twisted ribbons of gray rock. Wandering through those eerie, maze-like paths made me feel like I was on an alien planet. Definitely one of the coolest (and strangest) natural wonders I've ever seen!We finished off our Yunnan adventures by hiking up to a scenic overlook in the Western Hills. The views across the lush valley and Dianchi Lake were simply stunning at sunset. A perfect final memory before heading back to the big city buzz of Shanghai.Well, that was my incredible cross-country summer adventure in a nutshell! Three and a half weeks of unforgettable sights, sounds, and flavors. I took so many pictures and videos to help me remember every single amazing moment. Even though I saw so many iconic landmarks and natural wonders, I think my favorite part was all the little things - like watching thelandscapes gradually change out the car window, trying delicacies from each new region, and meeting locals to learn about their customs and way of life.This trip really opened my eyes to just how vast, diverse and beautiful China is. There's still so much left for me to discover too!I know I'm lucky to have gotten the chance to venture beyond Shanghai and experience my home country in a whole new way. It's a summer I'll cherish forever and hopefully just the start of many more memorable adventures to come.So that's my story for now. The milk kept spraying everywhere at first before I got the hang of it.After our chores, Grandma and I went for a walk around the village. She introduced me to some of her neighbors and showed me the old stone church, the village well, and the little stream where she used to play as a child. Everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming. I loved how peaceful and quiet the village felt compared to the bustling city.When we got back home, Grandma taught me how to bake a simple bread in her wood-fired oven. Kneading the dough was hard work but fun! While the bread was baking, we played a card game called "Chowkay" that she learned from her own grandma. The smell of the freshly baked bread made my mouth water. For dinner, we had the warm bread along with a salad from the garden and some chicken soup. Such a homey and satisfying meal!That night, I slept like a log in Grandma's cozy guest bedroom after the long day. With summer break just around the corner, it was hard to focus on anything but the freedom and fun that awaited. Finally, that glorious day arrived - the final bell rang, and we poured out of the classroom, backpacks overflowing, ready to embrace the next two months of no school, no homework, and no routines.I had grand plans for my summer adventure. Top of the list was finally learning how to ride a bike without those silly trainingwheels. My parents had promised to teach me, and I was determined to master it this year. Or getting an extra couple of quarters for the ice cream truck that would inevitably come trundling through the neighborhood in the late afternoon, coaxing kids out of houses with its incessantly cheery jingle. Slurping freezing cold popsicles or gooey ice cream sandwiches on sweltering days, feeling the sugary-sweet stickiness slowly enveloping your face and hands. What bliss! Somewhere in there, we'd inevitably start a bunch of ambitious get-rich schemes like lemonade stands and lawn mowing services that would inevitably get abandoned when the novelty wore off.Really, the possibilities for summer revelry felt deliciously endless after being cooped up in the classroom for the better part of the year. Of course, my parents would probably start nagging me about all the fun I was having by about mid-July, reminders that I should leave some time for academic activities too lest my brain turn completely to pudding. Maybe I'd even dabble in the summer reading list or math practice book they always over-optimistically purchased. But for those first few weeks at least, I could just bask in the freedom of being a young kid on glorious summer break again.So while my friends were all busy making their own summer bucket lists, I think I'd keep my plans nice and loose, flexible to whatever whims and fancies struck me on any given day.
