GRE Analytical Writing

写作的目的是沟通,通过语言类和逻辑思维来表达nguage中,style(GRE文章是学术的、严谨的、一丝不漏的)、grammar(语法错误一定要规避,以此来体现英语水平)、vocabulary(选择合适的词汇,而不是难词)Write Clear,Conise and Understandable不要追求繁文缛节,把文章写得平实易懂2.Logic&Thoughts,Organization(以怎样的逻辑层次来写这篇文章)、Topic Development (怎样把观点一点点递进)、Idea(思想是骨架)、Argument(很明确的论点论据论证)Make a solid argument1.2 认识GRE写作1.GRE写作考查的是批判性思维和分析性写作的技能,考察清晰地表述和支持复杂的想法、搭建并评估观点、写作有重点的和一致性的文章。

有一个Official Pool,E-rate(6)3.Issue要求evaluate the issue, consider its complexities and develop an argumet with reasons and examples to support your views4.Argument要求to consider the logical soundness of the argument rather than agree or disagree with the position it presents.

Understand the task Complicated thinking&Persuasive writing Idea-develop the content2.

Passage:The human brain, despite its many complexities, can be understood as a network of interconnected neurons. This network allows information to be transmitted throughout the brain via electrical and chemical signals. However, the brain is not a static network; it is constantly changing and adapting to new experiences. This is known as brain plasticity.Question 1: According to the passage, what is brain plasticity?A) The network of interconnected neurons in the brain.B) The transmission of information via electrical and chemical signals.C) The constant change and adaptation of the brain to new experiences.D) The complexity of the human brain. This is known as brain plasticity."

GRE是Graduate Record Exam in ati ons 的缩写,我们参加的是叫做 General Test ,用以区别 Sub Test 。

GRE® Revised General Test: Analytical Writing Question TypesThe Analytical Writing section of the GRE revised General Test consists of two separately timed analytical writing tasks:∙An Analyze an Issue task∙An Analyze an Argument taskAnalyze An Issue TaskThe Analyze an Issue task assesses your ability to think critically about a topic of general interest and to clearly express your thoughts about it in writing. Each issue statement makes a claim that you can discuss from various perspectives and apply to many different situations or conditions. The issue statement is followed by a set of specific instructions. The specific instructions could be one of the following:1.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which youagree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoningfor the position you take. In developing and supporting yourposition, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shapeyour position.2.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which youagree or disagree with the recommendation and explain yourreasoning for the position you take. In developing and supportingyour position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.3.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which youagree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supportingyour position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons orexamples that could be used to challenge your position.4.Write a response in which you discuss which view more closelyaligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for theposition you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented above.5.Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which youagree or disagree with the claim AND the reason on which thatclaim is based.6.Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policyabove and explain your reasoning for the position you take. Indeveloping and supporting your position, you should consider thepossible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.Sample Analyze an Issue Tasks1. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.Analyze An Argument TaskThe Analyze an Argument task assesses your ability to understand, analyze, and evaluate arguments and to clearly convey your evaluation in writing. You are presented with a brief passage in which the author makes a case for some course of action or interpretation of events by presenting claims backed by reasons and evidence. Your task is to discuss the logical soundness of the author's case according to the specific instructions by critically examining the line of reasoning and the use of evidence. The specific instructions could be one of the following:1.Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence isneeded to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidencewould weaken or strengthen the argument.2.Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstatedassumptions of the argument. Be sure to explainhow the answers to these questions would help to evaluate theprediction.7.Write a response in which you discuss one or more alternativeexplanations that could rival the proposed explanation and explain how your explanation or explanations can plausibly account for the facts presented in the argument.Sample Analyze an Argument Tasks1. In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports (swimming, boating, and fishing) among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the city is rarely used for these pursuits, however, and the city park department devotes little of its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. For years there have been complaints from residents about the quality of the river’s water and the river’s smell. In response, the state has recently announced plans to clean up Mason River. Use of the river for water sports is, therefore, sureto increase. The city government should for that reason devote more money in this year’s budget to riverside recreational facilities.Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted.2. The following is a memorandum from the business manager of a television station.“Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to national news and less time to weather and local news. During this time period, most of the complaints received from viewers were concerned with our station’s coverage of weather and local news. In addition, local businesses that used to advertise during our late-night news program have just canceled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to the program and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should restore the timede voted to weather and local news to its former level.”Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.。
