More children 1 (allow) to choose their favorite clothes, which is 2 relatively new trend. Many years ago, children had to suffer the whims(突发奇想)of adults as far as clothes were concerned. Like 3 (adult) clothes, children’s clothes followed fashions as well. About 120 years 4 , boys in Europe and America wore white ankle-length dresses, just like their sisters, until they 5 (reach) the age of five. Older boys from wealthy 6 (family) were then dressed in pretty velvet(丝绒) suits 7 lace collars. Their hair was grown to shoulder length 8 longer. For many unlucky boys, these carefully planned and organized costumes were nor reserved for special occasions; they had to wear the same 9 (restrict)and uncomfortable outfits for everyday play. Clean and proper clothes say that the person has both self-respect and respect for other people. Clothing can tell quite a lot about the person, sometimes more than we would like to reveal. So we should pay more attention to 10 (wear) proper clothes in different occasions.【文章大意】文章讲述了在西方,孩子们服装的发展,同时说明了着装的注意事项。

Who defeated a kind of deadly disease exposed to the neighbourhood? An expert or a physician? Who would like to attend to the patients and challenge the severe disease? Who would like to handle the terrible situations? Were they afraid to be victims? I am absorbed in the stories of famous people. They may be suspected to be mad men. They themselves couldn't foresee the future. They may be blamed for doing something crazy. But they link their life to the world. They hope to make contributions to the world. Apart from their positive attitude, their enthusiastic dream instructed themselves to be constructors. They were strict with themselves. They were cautious. Unit 1 Great scientistsⅠ.阅读理解AMy dearest son and daughter,The story of New Jersey high school student Rachel Canning suing her parents for child support and high school education inspired me to write you a little letter.Let me just put this out there:the only way I expect to see you in a court is as a lawyer or a judge. There are two things about this case that seem to be disaster.First,it's natural for parents and children to argue.I can guarantee that we will disagree. One or both of you will,at some point, scream at the top of your voice the various ways you hate me.And I won't always like you, either. But I will always love you and do everything I can to keep your best interests as my focus, even when I'm so angry. We are family. That means we are as much a part of one another as the flesh, blood and bones in our body. And we all should think about it very deeply instead of breaking that bond.Second,to be honest,no matter how far apart we are on your life choices, your father and I will most certainly pay everything we can for your higher education. But that doesn't mean you deserve it.To be clear, that is a privilege we happily extend(给予) to you—not a right you are born with. And you will have to work hard to earn that privilege.Growing up is hard work.If I do my job properly as your mother—and you do yours as my children—you would sooner get a job or two,and find a way to make your dreams come true rather than go to trial over what you think you are entitled to.Love always,Mom[语篇解读] 本文为一篇应用文。

Ⅱ.阅读理解AAlbert Einstein had a great effect on science and history, and his achievement was even greater than only a few other great scientists haveachieved.AnAmericanuniversity president once said that Einstein had made a new outlook, a new view of the universe. It may be some time before the average mind understands fully the identity (特性)of time and space and so on—but even ordinary men now understand that the universe is something larger than ever thought before.By 1914 young Einstein had been worldfamous. He accepted the offer to become a professor at the Prussian Academy of Science in Berlin. He had few duties, little teaching and unlimited chances for study, but soon his peace and quietness were broken by World War Ⅰ.Einstein hated fighting and killing. The great suffering of war affected him deeply, and he sat unhappily in his office doing little. He lost interest in his research. Only when peace came in 1918 was he able to get back to work.In the year following World War I, honours were increasingly put on him. He became head of the Kaiser Whihem Institute of Theoretical Physics. But he himself refused the effort to put him in a position far above other people. He was well known for his humble (谦逊的) manner. He often said that his success would certainly have been achieved by others if he had never lived. In 1921 he won the Nobel Prize, and he was honoured in Germany until the rise of Nazism (纳粹) when he was driven from Germany because he was a Jew.篇章导读:本文是一篇人物传记。
