Step1. Lead-in
1.Show a map of the world and say ‘This is a map of the world. Can you find
China?’
2.There are about 200 countries in the world. Which countries do you know of? Step2. Welcome to the unit
1.And write the six countries: Japan, the USA, France, Canada, the UK, Russia on
the blackboard. And help Ss learn to read them.
2.The teacher describes countries in English. And ask Ss guess their names.
3.These countries are famous and beautiful. I have some pictures of them. Do you
know of them?
4.Ask Ss try to finish Part A on page7. Then talk with them about these places to
check their answers.
5.Red Square is famous. Tian’anmen Square is also very famous. Where is
Tian’anmen Square? Yes, it’s in Beijing. And Beij ing is the capital of China.
Where is Red Square? It’s in the capital of Russia—Moscow.
6.Do you know the capitals of the following countries? Please match the capitals
with the countries.
(1)the USA a Tokyo
(2)the UK b Ottawa
(3)France c Moscow
(4)Japan d Washington D.C.
(5)Russia e London
(6)Canada f Paris
Then practice reading all the places together. And read them one student by one student.
7.Listen to Simon and Annie’s conversation and answer the questions:
What country are they talking about?
What’s in the photo?
Is Mount Fuji in Tokyo?
8.Read the conversation after the tape
9.Ask Ss to work in pairs to make a conversation about other countries by using the
information in Part A and B. Then ask three pairs to act out.
Step3. Comic strip
1.There are many beautiful places in the world. Where would you like to live?
2.Listen to the tape and answer my question:
Where would Eddie like to live?
Which is Eddie’s favourite restaurant?
3.Read the conversation after the tape together. Then read it in role.
4.Work in pairs to act the conversation out.
5.Learn some language points in the comic strip:
