2019高考英语一轮复习构想 Unit 3 Under the sea课时作业新人教版选修7Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2017·河北省第二次联考)In 1971 we were living in Wichita, Kansas—Lincoln was about seven, Brendan was three and Kristen was a baby. Mom was staying with us during the holidays. On Christmas Eve I stayed up very late. I was totally alone with my thoughts, alternating between joy and sorrow, and I got to thinking about my paper route(送报历程), that tree, what my mother had said to me and how dad had tried to make things better.I heard a noise in the kitchen and discovered that it was mom. She couldn't sleep either and had gotten up to make herself a cup of hot tea which made her feel better. As she waited for the water to boil, she walked into the living room and discovered me there. She saw my open Bible and asked me what I was reading. When I told her, she asked if I would read it to her and I did. When the kettle began to whistle, she went and made her tea. She came back. I told her how happy I was that she was with us for Christmas and how I wished that dad could have lived to see his grandchildren and to enjoy this time because he always loved Christmas so much. It got very quiet for a moment and then she said,“Do you remember that time on Twelve Mile Road when you bought that tree with your paper route money?”“Yes,” I said,“I've just been thinking about it you know.”She hesitated for a long moment, as though something was bottled up so deeply inside her soul that it might take surgery to get it out. Finally, great tears rolled down her face and she cried,“Oh, son, please forgive me. That time and that Christmas have been a burden on my heart for twentyfive years. I wish your dad were here so I could tell him how sorry I am for what I said.”【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。

课时达标(三十三) Unit 3 Under the sea(见学用课时P77)Ⅰ 阅读理解Ain our oceans. Both mammals and fish benefit from the clean ocean. It is reported that more than 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, and nearly half of the plastic we produce is singleuse only. This shoe brand, however, is riding the wave of change and is on a mission to help clean up our waters and rid the sea of plastic bottles that can take up to 400 years to break down. Vivobarefoot's newest footwear uses recycled plastic materials and has created an education program that spreads awareness about how harmful plastic is for sea life.Every pair of shoes is made up of 17 plastic water bottles taken from the ocean and turned into a sustainable, comfortable pair of shoes, which are also healthy for your feet. And while not everyone can take part in ocean cleanups, choosing little ways we can give back to our planet goes a long way.Vivobarefoot's new products include a variety of highperformance styles such as casual sneakers, running shoes, and hiking boots. The brand hopes that its latest initiative(新方案) will help lessen the indifference to pollution and how harmful it is for all living beings. In the future, Vivobarefoot hopes to increase their production of shoes created from sustainable materials, and thankfully, it is now one of many brands that aim to increase environmentalism and educate communities on how global warming affects everyone. This year, they'll add more recyclable and traceable materials into more than half of their production line, and they have plenty of creative developments in the works as well. The shoes also have a health benefit. Based on the concept that wider, minimallydesigned shoes enable our foot to function at maximum potential, wearers also experience better balance and sensory input.语篇导读本文主要介绍了一家利用海洋中的废弃塑料瓶制作鞋子的公司。

The culprit is climate change, and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US.Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit, for instance. An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys, this species of cottontail is a great swimmer—it lives on the islands!—but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, an ocean level riseof only 0.6 meters will send these guys jumping to higher ground and a 0.9meter rise would wipe out their habitat(栖息地)completely. The snowshoe hare, on the other hand, has a color issue. Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer, each designed to give them better cover from predators(捕食者). As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country, however, more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring, making them an easier mark for predators. Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlight, but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question. The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down.American pikas or rock rabbits, a relative of rabbits and hares, might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change. About 78 inches long, pikas live high in the cool, damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains. As global temperatures rise, they would naturally migrate(迁移) to higher ground—but they already occupy the mountaintops. They can't go any higher. The National Wildlife Federation reports that they might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up.The volcano rabbit has the same problem. These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico, and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters, but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher, so they are stuck in the middle. Scientists are concerned about their populations.Native to the US, pygmy rabbits weigh less than 1 pound and live in the American West. They are believed to be the smallest rabbits in the world. Their habitats have been destroyed by development. Several populations, such as the Columbia Basin pygmy, almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs. Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators, but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed. All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter.36.The writer mentions Easter at the beginning of the passage in order to ________.A.show the importance of Easter DayB.introduce the issue about bunniesC.remind people of Easter traditionsD.discuss the relationship between Easter and bunnies37.The word “culprit”(Paragraph 2)is closest in meaning to ________.A.criminal B.judge C.victim D.producer38.According to the passage, some rabbits can now be easily discovered by predators because they ________.A.are exposed to more skillful huntersB.have moved to habitats with fewer plantsC.haven't adapted themselves to climate changeD.can't change their fur color into white in the fall and the spring39.The problem faced by volcano rabbits and rock rabbits is that ________.A.both are affected by less snowB.both are affected by rising sea levelsC.neither can find enough foodD.neither can migrate to higher places40.Which best describes the writer's tone in the passage?A.Approving. They will work hard to reduce ocean noise pollution.B.They will protect animals from harmful noises.C.They will try to set a limit of 120 decibels.D.They will study the effect of ocean noise pollution.BThe sea has always interested man. From it he can get food, minerals, and treasure. For thousands of years, he could sail on it.But he could not go far beneath its surface.Man wants to explore deep into the sea. However, he is not a fish.He must breathe air, so he can't stay under the water's surface for any length of time.To explore deep water, man faces even more dangers and problems.A diver who wants to stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. He can wear a diving suit and have air pumped to him from above. He can carry a tank of air on his back and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece.Water weighs 800 times as much as air.Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea.His body is under great pressure. When a diver is under great pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes. As he rises to surface, the water pressure becomes less.If the diver rises too quickly, the gases in his blood form bubbles. The diver is then suffering from the bends. The bends can cause a diver to double up in pain. They can even kill him.15.On the whole, this passage is about ________.A.special mixtures of gases in deep seaB.the problems man faces in deep-sea divingC.air pressure under the surface of sea waterD.a kind of illness that man suffers in the sea16.A diver's body in deep water ________.A.is under great pressureB.is just like that of a fishC.suffers from the bendsD.weighs very little17.The passage does not say so, but it makes you think that ________.A.deep-divers should be in good healthB.divers explore the deep sea only for treasureC.diving under the water too quickly causes a kind of illnessD.there is a special mixture of gases under the sea18.From the passage we can see that ________.A.the sea began to interest man a few years agoB.man is not at home deep in the seaC.all divers will get the bends sooner or laterD.the air in the sea water will kill a diver if he is not carefulⅢ.完成句子阅读下列各小题,根据每句后的汉语提示,用句末括号内的英语单词完成句子。

B(2018·北京)Plastic-Eating Wormsgreater wax mothHumans produce more than 300 million tons of plastic every year.Almost half of that winds up in landfills(垃圾填埋场),and up to 12 million tons pollute the oceans. So far there is no effective way to get rid of it,but a new study suggests an answer may lie in the stomachs of some hungry worms.Researchers in Spain and England recently found that the worms of the greater wax moth can break down polyethylene, which accounts for 40% of plastics. The team left 100 wax worms on a commercial polyethylene shopping bag for 12 hours, and the worms consumed and broke down about 92 milligrams,or almost 3% of it.To confirm that the worms' chewing alone was not responsible for the polyethylene breakdown, the researchers made some worms into paste(糊状物)and applied it to plastic films.14 hours later the films had lost 13% of their mass—apparently broken down by enzymes(酶)from the worms' stomachs.Their findings were published in Current Biology in 2017.Federica Bertocchini,co-author of the study, says the worms' ability to break down their everyday food—beeswax—also allows them to break down plastic.“Wax is a complex mixture, but the basic bond in polyethylene, the carbon-carbon bond,is there as well,”she explains.“The wax worm evolved a method or system to break this bond.”Jennifer DeBruyn,a microbiologist at the University of Tennessee, who was not involved in the study, says it is not surprising that such worms can break down polyethylene. But compared with previous studies, she finds the speed of breaking down in this one exciting. The next step,DeBruyn says, will be to identify the cause of the breakdown. Is it an enzyme produced by the worm itself or by its gut microbes(肠道微生物)?Bertocchini agrees and hopes her team's findings might one day help employ the enzyme to break down plastics in landfills. But she expects using the chemical in some kind of industrial process—not simply “millions of worms thrown on top ofthe plastic.”【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。
