Unit 3 Science versus nature一、阅读理解。

Pollution’s great effects on the environment have become more obvious in recent years, leading to a movement to promote energy efficiency(效率),less reliance on fossil(化石) fuels, and a reduction in air and water pollution. Most scientists agree that such changes are necessary to protect our environment from further harm. The construction industry consumes a large quantity of energy and resources and creates a huge amount of pollution. In the United States, building and development account for 39% of the country's total energy use, 12% of total water consumption,68% of total electricity consumption and 38% of carbon dioxide emissions(二氧化碳排放), according to the Environment Protection Agency.Green buildings use less energy, water, create less waste, and are healthier to live, work, and go to school in than standard buildings. Builders of green buildings use techniques that use resources more efficiently during the entire building cycle—construction, restoration, operation, maintenance(维护)and demolition(拆毁)—than those who construct more regular buildings。

新高考英语人教版一轮复习课时作业必修5Unit3Lifeinthefuture

Unit 3Life in the future课时作业Ⅰ.阅读AWhat picture do you have of the future? Will life in the future be better, worse or the same as now? What do you hope about the future?Futurologists predict that life will probably be very different in 2050 in all the fields of activity, from entertainment to technology. First of all, it seems that TV channels will have disappeared by 2050. Instead, people will choose a program from a “menu” and a puter will send the program directly to the television. By 2050, music, films, programs, newspapers and books will e to us by puter. In what concerns the environment, water will have bee one of our most serious problems. Demand for water will increase ten times between now and 2050 and there could be serious shortages. Some futurologists predict that water could be the cause of war if we don't act now. In transport, cars will run on new, clean fuels and they will go very fast. Cars will have puters to control the speed and there won't be any accidents. Today, many cars have puters that tell drivers exactly where they are. By 2050, the puter will control the car and drive it to your destination. In the domain of technology, robots will have replaced people in factories. Many factories already use robots. Big panies prefer robots—they do not ask for pay rises or go on strike, and they work 24 hours a day. By 2050, we will see robots everywhere—in factories, schools, offices, hospitals, shops and homes.Last but not least, medicine technology will have conquered many diseases. Today scientists have discovered how to control genes. They have already produced clones of animals. By 2050, scientists will be able to produce clones of people and decide how they look, how they behave and how much intelligence they have. Scientists will be able to do these things—but should they?篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。

Then gradually, English becomes less like German because those who ruled England spoke first Danish and late French. These settlers enriched the English language, especially i t’s vocabulary. But by the 1600’s Shakespeare was able to make use a wider vocabulary.高三英语天天练(6)NAME_____完型填空One day a man was asked to paint a boat by the owner of the boat. This decision was in order to help young people feel more engaged in politics. But it may also signal the change of social views regarding the beginning of adulthood.Adulthood has traditionally been defined by a combination of age and the achievement of social milestones(里程碑).Most countries have a legally defined age to determine when a person becomes an adult—the age of majority. In Australia, most states consider a person to be an adult in court at 18. The age of 18 is also consistent with other adult privileges, such as the right to purchase alcohol and to marry. However, 17-year-olds can serve in the army andget a driver's licence. The law defines adulthood on the basis of age and it also recognizes the process of becoming an adult as involving himself gradually in social responsibility. This legal approach to adulthood is mirrored in other countries, where there are differences between the age of majority and social responsibility given to young people.Socially, determinants of adulthood traditionally focus on a person taking increasing responsibility for their lives in various ways. Completing school, taking fulltime employment, getting married and parenthood—these are all observable indicators to determine when a person is viewed as an adult.Since the 1980s, however, people have achieved some of these observable milestones at later ages. Increased access to education has delayed young people leaving home and developing romantic relationships. Economic changes have also resulted in unstable employment markets and increases in costs of living, prompting many young people to remain at home and dependent on parents.Due to these social changes, our expectations of young people and their level of social responsibility have also changed. The recognition of a new life stage—emerging(发展初期的) adulthood—has been recommended to account for the changes to social milestones that have traditionally represented adulthood.21.What can we learn about adulthood from the text?A.People reach observable indicators much later.B.Age alone is a reliable determinant of adulthood.C.Participation in politics is a responsibility for adulthood.D.Economic changes mainly shift people's views on adulthood.22.What right can people enjoy at the age of 17 in most states of Australia?A.V oting. B.Buying wines. C.Getting married. D.Driving legally. 23.What does the underlined word “prompting” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Encouraging. B.Advising. C.Forbidding. D.Persuading. 24.What's the main idea of the text?A.Emerging adulthood reflects a new life stage.B.Adulthood is defined differently in different places.C.Social changes are challenging the idea of adulthood.D.Adulthood is a combination of rights and responsibilities.语法填空It's almost a common belief that the best food you can find in a place is not in the fancy restaurants, in the backstreets. Unit 2 The environment一、阅读理解。

Vinegar makes salad, fries and dumplings taste better, and you can even use it to clean your windows. And now, according to scientists, it may even the planet’s population survive climate change.Researchers from the RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) in Japan found that growing plants in vinegar makes them more resistant to droughts. This could mean that in the future, worries about climate change affecting the world’s supply of food will be much lower. The discovery was made after the researchers studied the Arabidopsis, a plant known for its ability to survive in dry weather. It was found that when the plant was placed in drought-like conditions, it produced a chemical called acetate(醋酸盐)—the main component of vinegar. After discovering this, the scientists experimented further by adding acetate to the soil of other plants, before they stopped giving them water completely. After leaving the plants for 14 days, they found that the ones treated with acetate had survived, while the untreated plants had dried up and died. It’s hoped that this simple method of survival could soon be used to help farmers in dry countries keep their crops alive. "In the experiment, we targeted the staple foods of the world—rice, wheat and maize—and the basic plant of breeding species, rapeseed(油菜籽)," Jong Myong Kim, co-author of the study, told Popular Science magazine.Kim also told the magazine he’s already been in touch with people all over the world who are interested in trying this simple and cost-effective method out for themselves from flower growing companies to amateur gardeners. Although at this point keeping thirsty plants alive isn’t as easy as just pouring vinegar over them, Kim said he and his team are working on making the process as simple as possible. "Now we are trying to cooperate with some farmers, and also some companies, to make a method to apply this system, "he said. And for those of us who always forget to ask our neighbors to water our plants when we go away, hopefully this means the end of returninghome from a trip to find our favorite flowers have died.1.What is the article mainly about?A. The world’s food supply will be increased.B. Plants better survive droughts.C. The Arabidopsis is resistant to droughts.D. Vinegar could be used to fight droughts.2.It was discovered that acetate can .A. be used by farmers to replace soilB. only be produced by the ArabidopsisC. help plants survive dry conditionsD. be used to improve poor soil3.What are the target plants of the experiment?A. all breeding species.B. wheat and Arabidopisis.C. rice and maize.D. rapeseed and Arabidopisis.4.Jong Myong Kim’s experiment of trying out the method .A. can make people’s trips pleasantB. turned out a worldwide successC. is as simple as pouring vinegar over the plantsD. appeals to many flower growing companies【文章大意】本文属于科普类文章。

必修5 Unit 5 高考试卷分块专练阅读理解提速练(4篇阅读+1篇七选五,限时35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解AMost buildings are built to stand up straight, but these look as if they might fall over! The church tower of SuurhusenBuilt in 1450, the 27-metre-high church tower lies in Suurhusen, Germany. It was built in wet land on foundations of oak tree trunks (树干). When the land was drained (排水) later, the wood broke down, causing one side of the tower to be a little lower than the other. In 1975, the tower became a real hazard and people were not allowed to enter until the foundations were made strong again. The lean (倾斜) of the tower is now about five degrees. The Leaning Tower of PisaThe work of building the tower began in 1173, and was finally completed in 1372. In fact, it began to lean after just a couple of floors were built. And this condition continued in the centuries after its completion. The tower was finally closed to the public in 1990 after people failed to stabilize (使稳固) its foundations. In 2001, it was reopened after engineers removed soil from underneath its raised side. Now it leans just an angle of 3.97 degrees.Capital Gate of Abu DhabiCompleted in 2011, the Capital Gate tower in Abu Dhabi was designed to lean eighteen degrees. The building stands next to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and contains, among other things, a fine hotel with wonderful views of the harbour. Also known as the leaning tower of Abu Dhabi, the tower is one of the tallest buildings in the city.Big Ben of LondonThe building leans 0.26 degrees to the northwest. This was mainly caused by the engineering projects (项目) that have been carried out in the ground below it since the late 1800s. The tower, which has been continuously open since it was completed in 1858, has nowhere near the lean of the Tower of Pisa and is still completely safe to enter.语篇解读:本文是一篇应用文。

The computer is the only one allowed to do so.”I looked down on the computer and every passenger was just standing there drinking coffee and staring at the black screen. Sometimes it‟s down for 10 minutes, sometimes for two hours. There‟s no way we can find out without asking the computer, and since it‟s down it won‟t answer us.”After the girl told me they had no backup(备用) computer, I said. “Let‟s forget the computer. What about your planes? They‟re still flying, aren‟t they?”“I couldn‟t tell without asking the computer.”“Maybe I could just go to the gate and ask the pilot if he‟s flying to Washington, ” I suggested.“I wouldn‟t know what gate to send you to. Even if the pilot was going to Washington, he couldn‟t take you if you didn‟t have a ticket.”“Is there any other airline flying to Washington within the next few hours?”“I wouldn‟t know, ” she said, pointing at the dark screen. “Only …IT‟ knows. …It‟ can‟t tell me.”By this time there were quite a few people standing in lines.
