The report is a response to the effectiveness investigation of the training course on ‘Improving Business English Writing’, which was organized because our company found our staff had problems carrying out their work due to their poor skills in writing business English. The main purpose of the report is to identify the efficiency of the course and recommend ways to improve.1.2 SummaryIn the report, I present findings which explain the evaluation from our colleagues of the course. Following the findings, brief conclusions are drawn and a number of recommendations are made as to how the training course might be improved.2. ProcedureData for report were gathered two weeks before the writing date of the report. Primary data were collected from the questionnaires sent out to 150 senior staff and 100 junior staff who attended the course. 1.结构方面:Report一般由Table of Contents, Executive Summary, Introduction, Body, Conclusion/Recommendation, Reference六部分组成。

2. 语言方面:Report中,如果题目是假如你是某公司CEO或其他某个角色,可以使用第一人称;如果没有这样主人翁的假设,还是不能用第1,2人称。

请注意这点和Essay的区别。

3. 内容方面:1) R eport实践性更重一点,少写理论,多结合实际情况分析。

2) 数据和图表的使用很重要。

如果用到某公司几年内的某一项数据的变化,可以先列数据表格,再用柱状图、馅饼图或曲线图进行直观反映。

4. 特别注意问题:1) Table of Contents,一定要用Word自动生成格式。

2)Executive Summary,一般要出现“The main purpose of this report is to……”这样的标志性语句。

一般来说,这部分主要介绍这篇Report的研究内容、研究对象、研究目的、研究意义等等一些概括性的东西。

3) Introduction,在一篇Report中,Introduction部分相当于是一个Background,而不是概括R eport的内容。

一、Report格式之一——文字格式1、字体:Times New Roman, 字号:小四,行距:1.5倍。

标题字体可加粗二、Report格式之二——整体结构:Essay的写法大体上和essay差不多,但要求要严格一些。

第一:标题页:包括标题和executive summary(总结)。

一般都不写recommendation,除非特殊要求。

三、Report格式之三——重中之重的主体部分的写作要求:Abstract (序)Abstract的目的就是让读者知道你的在你的文章里写了些什么。

Abstract的开头要用1-2自己的语言总结和解释文章的题目,简单来说就是用自己的话把文章的题目写一遍Abstract细节是概括你在你的文章里都写了什么,每个论点就用2-3句话总结Abstract的结尾就是写总结和延伸你的所有论点和整个的大标题。

1-2段字数为文章的的10-15%,例如,一篇文章2000字,那么abstract 一般写200-300字,除非特殊要求。

Subject: Available solutions to improve service
It has been five years since our cafeteria was opened in XISU campus. But in the past months, there have been many complaints about our cafeteria. In order to investigate the causes and improve our service, I conducted a series of surveys around the campus and interviewed some students also. According to them, the complaints are due to these reasons:
◆The cafeteria is always crowded during the dinner time. Finding a table is as
difficult as it is in the canteen around 12 a.m and 6 p.m .
◆Our current open hour is 10 a.m to 11 p.m . It is not quite convenient for some
late students.
◆The waiters and waitresses are not enough. Customers always wait for a long
while to be served.
◆The food is not new. It remains unchanged for so long.
◆Compared to the canteen, prices in the cafeteria are more expensive.
Based on the problems above, I have the following available solutions:
◆Increasing more tables and adopting “ phone order “ service
◆The open hour changing into 8 a.m to 12 p.m
◆Employing students to be part-time waiters and waitresses
◆Improving our menu , adding breakfast and afternoon tea into menu and selling
some set meals
◆Carrying out VIP system to give regular customers discount and conducting
sales promotion activities often
Advantages & Disadvantages:
Advantages are apparent. First, enlarging the scale and hiring more employees can
improve our service and attract more customers. At the same time , hiring students as employees can not only save labor cost but also provide part-time job opportunities and we can also gain more first-hand information from them. Besides, selling set meals is a wise way to increase our sales. And VIP system appeals to most of customers, especially the regular ones. But to achieve these solutions, we need to increase more producting and human resources cost. This is the disadvantage. In consideration of the protential profits, this disadvantage is less important. Our future profits will certainly compensate for the cost.
Summary:
During the interviews, I referred to some of the available actions to solve the problems . Students all feel satisfied with them. They trust us to improve the cafeteria and hope to see a better cafeteria. I recommend that you take actions as soon as possible, so both you and the students can benefit from it as early as possible.。
