So for any of us in this room today, let's start out by admitting we're lucky. We don't live in the world our mothers lived in,our grandmothers lived in, where career choices for women were so limited. And if you're in this room today, most of us grew up in a world where we have basic civil rights, and amazingly,we still live in a world where some women don't have them. But all that aside,we still have a problem, and it's a real problem. And the problem is this:Women are not making it to the top of any profession anywhere in the world. The numbers tell the story quite clearly.190heads of state--nine are women.Of all the people in parliament in the world,13percent are women. In the corporate sector, women at the top,C-level jobs, board seats--tops out at15,16percent. The numbers have not moved since2002and are going in the wrong direction. And even in the non-profit world,a world we sometimes think of as being led by more women, women at the top:20percent.
We also have another problem, which is that women face harder choices between professional success and personal fulfillment.A recent study in the U.S.showed that,of married senior managers,two-thirds of the married men had children and only one-third of the married women had children.A couple of years ago,I was in New York, and I was pitching a deal, and I was in one of those fancy New York private equity offices you can picture. And I'm in the meeting--it's about a three-hour meeting--and two hours in,there needs to be that bio break, and everyone stands up, and the partner running the meeting starts looking really embarrassed. And I realized he doesn't know where the women's room is in his office. So I start looking around for moving boxes, figuring they just moved in, but I don't see any.And so I said,"Did you just move into this office?" And he said,"No,we've been here about a year."And I said,"Are you telling me that I am the only woman to have pitched a deal in this office in a year?"And he looked at me,and he said,"Yeah.Or maybe you're the only one who had to go to the bathroom."
”So the question is,how are we going to fix this? How do we change these numbers at the top?How do we make this different?I want to start out by saying,I talk about this--about keeping women in the workforce--because I really think that's the answer. In the high-income part of our workforce,in the people who end up at the top--Fortune500CEO jobs, or the equivalent in other industries--the problem,I am convinced,is that women are dropping out.Now people talk about this a lot,and they talk about things like flextime and mentoring and programs companies should have to train women.I want to talk about none of that today, even though that's all really important.Today I want to focus on what we can do as individuals. What are the messages we need to tell ourselves?Whatare the messages we tell the women that work with and for us?What are the messages we tell our daughters?
Now,at the outset,I want to be very clear that this speech comes with no judgments.I don't have the right answer.I don't even have it for myself.I left San Francisco, where I live,on Monday, and I was getting on the plane for this conference. And my daughter, who's three, when I dropped her off at preschool, did that whole hugging-the-leg,crying,"Mommy, don't get on the plane"thing. This is hard.I feel guilty sometimes.I know no women, whether they're at home or whether they're in the workforce, who don't feel that sometimes. So I'm not saying that staying in the workforce is the right thing for everyone.

As an introverted person myself, I often find myself in situations where I feel out of place in the loud, extroverted culture of the modern workplace. But over the years, I've come to learn that my introverted nature is not a hindrance, but a strength that I can use to my advantage. In this TED talk, I'd like to share with you some of the ways in which introverted individuals can thrive in the workplace and achieve success.First and foremost, it's important to recognize that introverted individuals have a unique set of skills and talents that are valuable in the workplace. We tend to be good listeners, empathetic, and highly observant. These qualities make us effective team players, as we are able to pick up on the nuances of group dynamics and contribute to the success of the team in a meaningful way. We also tend to be very detail-oriented and analytical, which can be extremely helpful in roles that require careful analysis and decision-making.Another key factor in achieving success in the workplace as an introverted person is to play to our strengths. Thismeans seeking out roles and projects that align with our natural inclinations and strengths, rather than forcing ourselves into roles that are better suited for extroverted individuals. For example, introverted individuals may excel in roles that involve researching, writing, or developing detailed plans and strategies. We may also find success in roles that allow us to work independently or in small groups, rather than in large, noisy teams. It's also important for introverted individuals to recognize and embrace their need for alone time. This might mean taking short breaks throughout the day to recharge our batteries, or finding ways to carve out alone time in our schedules outside of work. By prioritizing our need for solitude and quiet, we can ensure that we are able to bring our best selves to the workplace each day, rather thanfeeling burned out and overwhelmed. Finally, introverted individuals can find success in the workplace by developing strong communication skills. While communication may not come naturally to many introverts, it is a critical skill that is necessary for success in almost any professional setting. By learning to articulate our thoughts and ideas clearly and assertively, as well asactively listening to others, we can build strongrelationships with colleagues and clients alike. Additionally, we may find success in roles that require us to act asthought leaders or subject matter experts, where ouranalytical skills and strategic thinking can shine. In conclusion, while the modern workplace may seem likeit favors extroverted individuals, introverted individualscan absolutely thrive and achieve great success by playing to their unique strengths and embracing their natural tendencies. By seeking out roles that align with our strengths, prioritizing our need for solitude and quiet, and developing strong communication skills, introverted individuals can make a valuable contribution to almost any team or organization. So let's embrace our introverted nature and show the world what we're capable of achieving!。
Women represent 50 percent of middle management and professional positions, but the percentages of women at the top of organizations represent not even a third of that number. So some people hear that statistic and they ask, why do we have so few women leaders女性占据50%的中层管理和专业职位,但在企业高层职务中女人所占的百分比,甚至还不到上述数字的三分之一。
But I look at that statistic and, if you, like me, believe that leadership manifests at every level, you would see that theres a tremendous, awesome resource of leaders who are leading in middle management, which raises a different question: Why are there so many women mired in the middle and what has to happen to take them to the top但是我看着这个统计数据,并且,如果你跟我一样,相信那上面显示的各级别领导人数,你会看到中管管理有着数量惊人的杰出女性领导者,由此你会提出另一个问题为什么有这么多女性卡在中层她们怎样才能升到高层So some of you might be some of those women who are in middle management and seeking to move up in your organization. Well, Tonya is a great example of one of these women. I met her two years ago. She was a vice president in a Fortune 50 company, and she said to me with a sense of deep frustration, Ive worked really hard to improve my confidence and my assertiveness and develop a great brand,
知识、技能和能力:成功职业生涯的三大支柱(TED英语演讲稿)Ladies and gentlemen,I am honored to be standing before you today to discuss one of the most important aspects of a successful career - the three pillars of knowledge, skills, and abilities. These three aspects are vital to anyone who wishes to achieve greatness in their chosen field, and I believe that they form the foundation of any successful career.Knowledge is the first pillar of success. It is the accumulation of facts, information, and wisdom that one gains through learning and experience. Without knowledge, it is impossible to move forward in any field, as it provides the necessary background and understanding for effectivedecision-making, problem-solving, and communication.Skills are also a critical component of any successful career, forming the second pillar of success. They involve the practical application of knowledge, and are developed through practice and repetition. Skills can be refined and improved over time, and those who possess highly developedskills in their particular field often have a competitive advantage over their peers. Finally, abilities are the third pillar of success. These are the innate qualities and talents that individuals possess, such as creativity, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Abilities are difficult to measure or teach, but are often essential for success in any field.Together, these three pillars form a strong foundationfor success in any career. However, it is important to remember that each of these pillars is interdependent, andthat success in any one area requires a strong foundation inall three.Of course, the development of these three pillars is nota simple process. It requires dedicated effort, ongoing education and training, and a willingness to learn and grow.It also requires a willingness to take risks and embrace failure, as well as a strong work ethic and resilience in the face of challenges. As we navigate an ever-changing and increasingly demanding job market, it is essential that we focus on thesethree pillars and work to develop them throughout our careers. By doing so, we can ensure that we are well-prepared not only to achieve success, but to thrive in whatever challenges we may face.So I urge you all to continue your pursuit of knowledge,to refine your skills, and to embrace your abilities. With these three pillars firmly in place, there is no limit toyour potential for success. Thank you.。

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is a great honor to stand before you today and share some thoughts on the subject of women's success and empowerment. In a world that is rapidly evolving, it is crucial for us to embrace our power and strive for success on our own terms. Today, I want to inspire you, motivate you, and remind you that success is not just a destination but a journey that we all embark on.Let us begin by acknowledging the incredible progress that women have made over the past century. We have come a long way from the days when women were expected to stay at home, raise children, and服从 their husbands. Today, we are breaking barriers, shattering glass ceilings, and leading in various fields. However, despite these advancements, we still face numerous challenges and stereotypes that hinder our path to success.Firstly, let us talk about self-belief. Self-belief is the cornerstone of success for any individual, and it is especially crucial for women. Too often, we doubt our abilities, compare ourselves to others, and allow societal expectations to dictate our worth. It is time to break free from these chains and recognize our unique talents and strengths. To build self-belief, start by acknowledging your achievements. Every small victory is a step towards your ultimate goal. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem, and use them as fuel to propel you forward. Remember, success is not measured by the destination but by the journey itself.Next, let us address the issue of stereotypes. Women have been portrayed as emotional, irrational, and incapable of handling high-pressure situations. These stereotypes not only limit our potential but also reinforce the gender gap. It is essential to challenge these perceptions and redefine what it means to be successful. One way to combat stereotypes is by being visible. Show the world that women are capable of excelling in any field they choose. Break the mold, be bold, and take risks. Embrace your power and let your actions speaklouder than words. Remember, you are not limited by your gender but by your own beliefs and limitations. Now, let's talk about the importance of mentorship. Finding a mentor can be a game-changer in your journey to success. A mentor is someone who has walked the path you are on and can provide guidance, support, and advice. They can help you navigate through the challenges and celebrate your victories. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, challenge you, and push you to be the best version of yourself. In addition to mentorship, it is crucial to build a strong support system. Success is not a solo journey; it requires the collaboration and encouragement of others. Seek out like-minded individuals who share your passion and vision. Create a network of friends, colleagues, and family who will uplift you during tough times and celebrate with you when you achieve your goals. Now, let's delve into the importance of work-life balance. Achieving success does not mean neglecting your personal life. In fact, a healthy work-life balance is essential for long-term success and happiness. It is important to prioritize your well-being, take care of your mental and physical health, and allocate time for relaxation and self-care.Remember, success is not just about climbing the corporate ladder or achieving material wealth. True success lies in finding fulfillment, happiness, and purpose in your life. It is about living a life that is authentic to who you are and making a positive impact on the world around you.As women, we have the power to create our own destiny. We have the strength to overcome adversity, the resilience to bounce back from failures, and the compassion to lift others up. Let us embrace our power and use it to make a difference in the world. In conclusion, the journey to success for women is filled with challenges and triumphs. It requires self-belief, the courage to challenge stereotypes, a strong support system, and a commitment towork-life balance. Embrace your power, redefine success on your own terms, and let your actions inspire others to do the same.Remember, you are not just a woman on a journey to success; you are a leader, a pioneer, and a beacon of hope for generations to come. Your success is not just for yourself but for all the women who will follow in your footsteps.Thank you for your time and attention. Let us embark on this journey together, with unwavering determination and an unwavering belief in our own potential.Together, we can and will make a difference.God bless you all.。
Reshma
So a few years ago, I did something really brave, or some would say really stupid. I ran for Congress. For years, I had existed safely behind the scenes in politics as a fundraiser, as an organizer, but in my heart, I always wanted to run. The sitting congresswoman had been in my district since 1992.
She had never lost a race, and no one had really even run against her in a Democratic primary. But in my mind, this was my way to make a difference, to disrupt the status quo. The polls, however, told a very different story. My pollsters told me that I was crazy to run, that there was no way that I could win.
