所谓主旨大意题指针对段落或短文的subject(主题)、main idea(主题思想)、title(题目)或purpose(目的)拟题。

Listening is an extremely complex communicative
activity. In order to have a better understanding,
to anticipate what is coming is very important. An
effective listener should continuously develop
more or less specific readiness for what will come
next. If a listener hears what he has expected, it
will be much easier for him to receive the
information. But if what he hears is totally out of
his expectation,he will fail to get the message.
The skill to anticipate what is coming in listening
comprehension depends largely on the listener’s
familiarity with the theme(主题) of the message. It
also depends on the listener’s knowledge of the
speaker as well as the situation. Obviously, when
we listen to something that we already have some
information about, it is generally much easier for

The first rule stepping up your luck is to look for variety.
More variety willresult in a richer life with more opportunities. The
more varied life is, the more likely that unexpected combinations of
events will occur, giving us the chance to improve our situation. Being
able to change is the best way tosurvive in changing, unpredictable
times.
When we are searching for something, like a pair of lost
eyeglasses, it isn't a good idea to always follow the same pattern of
search. Searching for happiness islike that as well. Be flexible. Learn
from your mistakes. Try lots of different possibilities.
Variety is necessary for happiness. No matter how rich our lives
may seem, if they consist only of expected events and repetition,
boredom steps in. We find pleasure in the unexpected and the surprising.

My mother was born in a small town in northern Italy. She was three when her parents immigrated
to America in 1926. They lived in Chicago where my grandfather worked making ice-cream. Mama
thrived in the urban environment. At 16 she graduated first in her high school class went on to
secretarial school and finally worked as an executive secretary for a rare wood company. She was
beautiful too. When a local photographer used her pictures in his monthly window display she felt
pleased. Her favorite portrait showed her sitting by Lake Michigan her hair wind-blown her gaze
reaching towards the horizon.
My parents were married in 1944. Dad was a quiet and intelligent man. He was 17 when he left
Italy. Soon after a hit-and-run accident left him with a permanent limp. Dad worked hard selling
candy to Chicago office workers on their break. He had little formal schooling. His English was self-taught. Yet he eventually built a small successful whole-sale candy business. Dad was generous and

Rowena and Billy Wrangler are model high school students. They study hard and do extremely well on achievement tests. And next year, Rowena will be attending Harvard
University. Billy, her younger brother, hopes to go to Cornell. What makes Rowena and
Billy different from most students is that they don't go to school. In fact, they've never been to school. Since kindergarten, they've studied at home. Neither Rowena nor Billy feels as if they've missed out on anything by being taught at home. Like many of more than
one million people who receive home schooling in the United States, they feel as if they've gotten a good education.
The home-schooling trend began in the U.S. in the 1980s with parents keeping their
