Unit 2 Poems李仕才一、阅读理解“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father’s.Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any pity or any moments of regret. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature. The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe… With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the irondoor that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Love----it’s second to none.1.Which is the correct order of the following events according to the passage?a. I opened the door and entered the house.b. I ran out into the street angrily.c. I reached the place where I lived and saw my house still brightly lit.d. I recalled my happy childhood.e. I began to walk about in the street without any aim.A. e, b, d, c, aB. b, e, d, c, aC. b, e, c, d, aD. e, b, c, a, d2.According to the author, why did his father often shout at him?A. Perhaps the father was getting older and older.B. Perhaps the son had already grown up.C. Perhaps they never agreed with each other.D. Perhaps the father had been used to doing that.3.What did the author mean by the underlined sentence “My heart was frozen on this hot summer night”?A. He felt lonely because there were so few people on the street.B. He felt uncomfortable because it was a very hot night.C. He didn’t know where to go at all.D. He had a bad cold on such a hot day.4.What was the author’s attitude towards his father at the end of t he story?A. He loved his father.B. He was worried about his father.C. If you want a little extra security against thieves stealing your bicycle, designer Dennis Siegel has designed a solution. The RFID Bikealarm is attached to the seat on a bicycle and gives off an alarm when it senses movement.“The RFID Bikealarm is meant to be a useful add-on to mechanical bicycle locks because it greatly extends the range of protection with only a few components, ” Siegel explains on his website. “It is low-cost, durable and easy to use. ”The Bikealarm was de signed as part of Siegel’s Bachelor’s degree thesis at the University of the Arts Bremen in Germany. The device will scare off any would-be thief the moment he begins to steal the bicycle to which it is attached. It is able to continuously sense the environment to distinguish between specific events, for instance a passing tram/car and a serious theft.Siegel created a working model of an alarm that would sound when it sensed movement, but wasn’t initially sure how it would be best attached to a bicycle. “I decided to mount it to the rails of the seat because it allows for comfortable interaction and the position is less obvious as it looks like a small repair kit, ” he says.Siegel chose to use RFID technology rather than Bluetooth to keep the costs down. Siegel explains that the most difficult aspect of creating the alarm was to get the electronic circuit down to a small enough size. The device runs off a kind of battery that can be charged by USB within 2 hours and lasts for a few days with normal use. As the Bikealarm is only at development stage, Siegel hasn’t signed any agreements to put it on the market.【文章大意】文章介绍了一种新型的防止自行车被盗的报警装置。

Unit 2 PoemsⅠ阅读理解A(2018·浙江温州检测)(CHINA DAILY Oct. 20th, 2016) Itdoesn’t seem that U.S. singer Bob Dylan has much in common withliterary mavens(内行) like Ernest Hemingway and T.S. Elliot. But,last week, these three figures became forever bonded(黏合) by theNobel Prize in Literature. This year’s prize makes Dylan the first American since ToniMorrison in 1993 to win the title. At the same time, the surprisingannouncement has also burned a firestorm of discussion around the globe.Influential U.S. writer Jodi Picoult joked that she might now deserve a Grammy(格莱美奖). And well-known British-Indian novelist Hari Kunzru lamented(悲叹) on social media by saying:“This feels like the lamest Nobel winner since they gave it to Obama for not being Bush.”Dylan’s new status—a musician awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature—to a degree challenges tradition. However, this is by no means his first prize in his writing talents. Back in 2008, the Pulitzer Prize jury(普利策奖评委会) awarded Dylan a special award “for his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power”. To this point, it could be argued that what the Nobel Committee is doing is simply strengthening Dylan’s unshakable standing in th e world of literature. The words behind Dylan’s songs address social issues and have been spread from generation to generation. Protest songs like Blowing in the Wind(1962) were the anthems(圣歌) of anti-war and civil rights movements in the 1960s U.S. Densely poetic and image-rich songs such as Mr. Tambourine Man(1965) pushed the folk-rock movement. And even today, many of Dylan’s songs are still relevant and streamed regularly by people all over the world.【解题导语】曾获得奥斯卡奖、普利策奖和格莱美奖等多项大奖的美国歌手鲍勃·迪伦,以其充满诗意的音乐作品又获得了诺贝尔文学奖,这也使他成为名副其实的跨界之王。
