I’m so honored. I never expect there are so many people coming here to listen to my talk.

And when I sitting there I feel so important. Thank you, thank you very much.

Before my talk I would like to ask how many people here have used Alibaba services. Good, not many. [Laughs]. And how many of you here have never been to China? Never been, never been to China. Good, thank you very much.20年前,我第一次踏上美国,美国之旅的第一站是西雅图。

Well, 20 years ago I came to America. My first trip to America, to Seattle. Before that I learned so much about America, from my books, from my teachers, from my school, and my parents. And I think I know enough about America. But when I came to America I thought totally wrong. America is not what I learned from the books. And in Seattle I found the Internet.

And then I came back and tell my friends that I’m going to open a company called Internet. I invited 24 of my friends, had a two-hour discussion. And finally we had a vote. 23 of them against me. “Forget about it. There’s no such kind of network called Internet. Don’t do it.” There’s only one person who said “Jack, I trust you. I don’t know what that is, but if you want to try it, go ahead, try it. Because you’re still young.” At that time I was 30 years old.

So I started my business, without knowing anything about computer, without knowing anything about business. I started my first company, my wife and I and a school mate. We borrowed [start] from US $1,000 we start the business. It was so difficult. I called myself like a blind man riding on the back of blind tigers. Jumping around for the past 20 years I survive today. For the first three years life was really bad. I remember I tried to borrow US $3,000 from the banks. It took me three months asking any friends I know to borrow the money.Still failed, cozverybody said “Jack is telling a lie, because there’s no such network called Internet in 1996.”

So one day, later 1996, China was connected to the Internet. I invited ten media friends to my apartment. I want to tell them I’m not telling a lie. There is a network called Internet. We waited three hours and a half to see the first – to download the first picture. And people said “Is that thing going to work?” And I say “Yeah, it’ll work, but not today. In ten years it’ll work.” But at least it proved that I was not telling a lie.

I remember when we tried to help our small business to sell online. Nobody want to sell because nobody come to buy. So first week we have seven employees, we buy and sell ourselves. The second week somebody start to sell on a website. We buy everything they sell. We have two rooms full of things we bought for New Year’s, [all garbage] for the first two weeks. In order to tell people that it works. It was noteasy. Since 1995 to 1999 we failed. We go nowhere, our business, because nothing was ready.

In 1999 I invited 18 friends of mine who came to my apartment. We decided to do it again. We call the name . And people say why Alibaba? We believe Internet is a treasure island which opens sesame for small business. And we used Alibaba because it’s easy to spell, easy to remember. And we want to focus on helping small business.

Because at that time we see commerce [with the] Americane-commerce they focus on helping on big companies, they’re focusing on helping big companies to save the cost. We believed China we don’t have a lot of big companies, we have so many small business, and small business it’s so difficult for them to survive. If we can using Internet as a technology to help small business it’ll be fantastic.

Ma Hannover Expo opening ceremony speechGood evening everyone!Dear chancellor Merkel, deputy prime minister Makai, ministers, ladies and gentlemen, it’smy great honor to speak in the CeBIT.I remember 14 years ago, when I first came to Hannover, I tried to rent a small booth to sell the Chinese products to the west and to the Europe, t hat’s been a long time to looking for the booth, and at that time Hannover was not that prosperous, but the fair was very successful. It's difficult to get a booth, finally, we got a small booth, we got the booth, but very few people found us.Eight years ago, we came back again, We tried to help off the booth to move them online, help them to sell on the Alibaba , it didn't work, it goes at that time, people think, the trade fair and online are conflict to each other.Today I come back again, the reason that I come back again, is trying to find the important missing part of the Internet business, Internet in the past 20 years, was pretty successful, but one thing that is very strange that I found that very few Internet companies can survive peacefully and healthily for more than 3 years, that means most of the Internet companies can only have honeydays, honey weeks, they don’t have evenhoney months, what is the problem Where is the missing part So I think that I strongly believe that the missing part is in is that ?Whether we like it or not, in the past 20 years, the Internet has larged a huge impact to the human lives, everybody believes that Internet has done great things to the world, and also lot of the traditional business hate the Internet, because they destroyed their business. But what the rest is that why Internet companies always worry, worry You see whether Google, Facebook, Amazon, eBay and Alibaba, all of us worry everyday. So we think that there must be a problem, and the problem is that we have to find a solution, that how we can be a company can live long and healthily like Mercedes-Benze, Siemens. If any industry can not live more than 3 years, if all the companies can not live happily for 3 years, this industry will never become the mainstream, this industry can never become the deep economy, So, what we want to do is that how we can find the solution. The world is changing so fast, most people don't realize what is IT, what is Internet, we’re moving very very fast today to technology.IT technology and digital technology, is not the technology difference, is the differences of people, the way people think, the way people deal with the world .We don't know what the world will look like in 30 years, and we don't know what the data will look like, but we are sure that the whole world in next 30 years will be changed .If the first and the second innovation and technology revolution relief all liberate the human strength, the physical strength, this revolution release a liberate the strength of human brain, the brain in innovation. The future world, we believe we’ll be connected not by oil, not by other things, but by datas. The future world, the business will be C2B notB2C, C2B is consumer to business, not business to consumer. because there will be a lot of datas, because of the datas, the manufacturer must do customerlized things, otherwise manufacturer will be very difficult. In the future, all the manufacturers, they make the machines, the machines can not only produce products, the machines must talk, the machine must think, And the machine is not going to be supported by oil, by electricity, the machine is going to be supported by datas. The future world, business will not focus on the size, business will no longer focus on standardization and power, they will focus on the flexibility, nimbleness, personalization and user friendly. And I also strongly believe the future world, we are going to have a lot of women leaders, because in the future, people will not only focus on muscles, powers, and they focus on wisdom, they focus on careless and responsibility. And I think the Internet must find the missing part,This missing part is how the clickers and motors can work together, and how we can make sure in the next 30 years, the internet and clickers and moters can work together, only clickers and moters can work together, the Internet and companies can survive, can live happily for next 30 years, and if that comes, that is what we called D-economy, is not just the digital economy, which I called data economy, and everything is going to be changed. And I also believe that the world is going to be beautiful, but also very challenging.Apple may not be the future, but Apple tells us what the future will look like, that is something in the machine is moving, that is data.We are at a great time of innovation, inspiration, invention and creativity, and I think everybody is working hard, try to realize their dreams. Today you see here, a real world ofworkers, truck drivers and game players, and also all these senior people, everybody in the ancient time, nobody can use technology to realize their dreams. But today, because of datas, everything becomes true. And I strongly believe, it’s not the technology that changed the world, it’s the dreams behind the technology that changed the world. If the technology changed the world, I'll never be here, I’m not betrained to be a science and technology experts.I know nothing about computer, and I know very little about the Internet, but I have a strong dream that we want to help small business. So, 14 years ago so we came here to sell Chinese products to Europe, that didn’t wor k. 14 years later, we try to help the European small business to China, to the world by using the Internet. It’s the dreams that drives the world, it’s not only the technology. So Ladies and gentlemen, let's work hard together, it is a fantastic world, it is a world belongs to young people, it is a world belongs to the future. And thank you very very much for listening!

Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. It's my great honor to be here at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to share with you some of my thoughts on the future of the global economy. As we stand on the cusp of a new era, it's crucial for us to understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The world is changing at an unprecedented pace, driven by technological advancements, shifting geopolitical landscapes, and evolving consumer behaviors. In this rapidly changing environment, it's imperative for businesses and governments to adapt and innovate in order to thrive in the future. One of the key drivers of this change is technology. The rise of artificial intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things has fundamentally transformed the way we live, work, and interact with each other. These technologies have the potential to revolutionize industries, create new economic opportunities, and improve the quality of life for people around the world. However, they also pose significant challenges, such as job displacement, privacy concerns, and ethical implications. As leaders, we must navigate these challenges with wisdom and foresight, ensuring that the benefits of technology are equitably distributed and that no one is left behind.Another major trend shaping the global economy is the rise of emerging markets. Countries like China, India, and Brazil are becoming increasingly influential players in the global economy, driving innovation, investment, and consumption. As these markets continue to grow, they will create new opportunities for businesses and investors, but also pose new competition and geopolitical tensions. It's essential for us to foster cooperation and mutual understanding among nations, in order to build a more inclusive and sustainable global economy. In addition to these trends, we must also address the urgent issue of climate change. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and environmental degradation pose a serious threat to the stability and prosperity of our planet. We must take bold and decisive action to mitigate the impact of climate change, transitioning to alow-carbon economy, investing in renewable energy, and promoting sustainable development. By doing so, we can create a more resilient and environmentally responsible global economy for future generations. In conclusion, the future of the global economy is full of promise and potential, but also fraught with challenges and uncertainties. As leaders, we must embrace change, foster innovation, and promote cooperation in order to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable world. By working together, we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead and create a brighter future for all. Thank you.。

Ladies and gentlemen,It is an honor to be here with you today. I want to thank the organizers for inviting me to speak, and for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts and experiences with you all.As most of you know, I am the founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, one of the world's largest and most successfule-commerce companies. But my journey to this point has not been easy, and I'm here today to tell you a little bit about that journey.Growing up in China, I didn't have a lot of advantages. I wasn't born into a wealthy family, and I wasn't the best student either. But I had a dream, and I was determined to pursue it. I started my first business selling English-language lessons to Chinese schools, and even though it failed, I kept going. Eventually, I founded Alibaba, and the rest is history. One of the things I've learned from my experiences is that success doesn't come easy. It takes hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks and try new things. But it also takes a dedication to a larger vision. For me, that vision was to create a platform that could help connect people and make commerce more inclusive and accessible to everyone. I wanted to use technology to break down barriers and bring people together, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.Today, Alibaba has more than 1 billion customers in over 190 countries, and it's not just about buying and selling goods anymore. We've expanded into finance, logistics, media, and a whole range of other businesses. But the core ethos remains the same: to use technology to make the world a better place.Of course, we face many challenges along the way. There are always competitors, new technologies, changing consumer preferences, and geopolitical shifts to contend with. But the key is to stay focused on your vision, and to never give up.In recent years, I've also become more involved in philanthropy, and I believe that business and philanthropy can go hand in hand. At the Jack Ma Foundation, we are working to promote education, entrepreneurship, and environmental protection. We believe that these are some of the most pressing issues facing the world today, and that by workingtogether, we can make a difference. So, I urge all of you to think big, to dream, and to never give up. Remember that success comes not just from hard work, but from a dedication to creating something that can improve people's lives. And always remember that the greatest asset you have is not your money or your intelligence, but your passion and your belief in what you are doing. Thank you.。

Ladies and gentlemen,Today, I stand before you not as a successful businessman, but as a dreamer. My name is Jack Ma, and I want to share with you my journey, my failures, and my dreams. I believe that dreams are the seeds of success, and they can transform our lives. It all started in a small village in Zhejiang Province, China. I wasborn in 1964, and my family lived in poverty. My father was a farmer, and my mother was a teacher. We had very little money, and we had towork hard to make ends meet. When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. I loved books and knowledge, and I believed that education could change my life. However, my dream was shattered when I failed the college entrance exam twice. I was disappointed and frustrated, but I didn't give up.I worked as an English teacher for two years, and I saved every penny I earned. Finally, in 1988, I got a chance to study at Hunan University. It was a dream come true, but I quickly realized that the world was much bigger than I had imagined. After graduation, I worked at a state-owned enterprise for four years. It was a stable job, but I was not happy. I felt trapped and unfulfilled.I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life.In 1995, I traveled to the United States for the first time. I was amazed by the technology and innovation there. I saw people using the Internet, and I realized that it was the future. I knew that I had to do something with this new technology.Back in China, I started a small company with 17 of my friends. We wanted to provide Chinese businesses with a platform to sell their products online. It was a challenging project, and we faced many obstacles. We had no money, no technology, and no experience. But we believed in our dream, and we worked hard.In 1999, we launched our first product, a B2B website called Alibaba. It was a hit, and we grew rapidly. However, we faced another challenge: thedot-com bubble burst in 2000. Many companies went bankrupt, and we were not immune. We had to lay off half of our employees, and we were on the verge of bankruptcy. But we didn't give up. We believed in our dream, and we kept working hard. We focused on our customers, and we provided the best service we could. Slowly, we started to recover, and we grew stronger.Today, Alibaba is one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world. We have millions of customers and thousands of employees. We have achieved our dream, but we are not satisfied. We want to continue to innovate and to create a better future for everyone.Ladies and gentlemen, my message to you today is simple: dream big, work hard, and never give up. Dreams are the seeds of success, and they can transform our lives. Here are some lessons I have learned from my journey:1. Believe in yourself. You are the most powerful person in your life. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.2. Dream big. Dreams are the seeds of success. They can inspire you and motivate you to work hard.3. Work hard. Success is not easy to achieve. You have to work hard and be persistent.4. Be patient. Success takes time. You have to be patient and keep working hard.5. Focus on your customers. Your customers are the most important people in your life. They are the ones who will make your business successful.6. Be innovative. The world is changing rapidly. You have to be innovative and keep up with the times.7. Never give up. Failure is a part of life. You have to learn from your failures and keep moving forward.Ladies and gentlemen, let us all dream big, work hard, and never give up. Together, we can create a better future for ourselves and for the world.Thank you.。

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is a great honor and privilege to stand before you today to share my thoughts and experiences. I am Jack Ma, a man who came from a small town in China, with dreams bigger than my own reality. Today, I want to talk about the power of dreams, the importance of determination, and how they can transform lives and shape the world.Let me start by sharing a little about my background. I was born in 1964 in a small town in Zhejiang Province, China. My family was not wealthy, and I had to work hard to support myself through school. I failed the college entrance exam twice, and it was during these challenging times that I developed a passion for learning and a strong determination to succeed. My first job was a teacher, but I quickly realized that I was not cut out for a traditional career. I was always dreaming of something bigger, something that would allow me to make a difference in the world. It was during this time that I discovered the Internet, and I knew that this was the future. I quit my job and started a small translation company, hoping to bridge the gap between China and the rest of the world. However, success did not come easily. I faced countless rejections and setbacks. My first company went bankrupt, and I had to start all over again. But I never gave up. I believed in my dream, and I knew that with hard work and perseverance, I could achieve my goals. In 1999, I co-founded Alibaba with a group of friends. At that time, no one believed in us. We had no money, no experience, and no connections. But we had a dream, and we were determined to make it a reality. We worked day and night, constantly innovating and adapting to the changing market. Our vision was to create a platform that would connect businesses all over the world, and we were passionate about making it happen.Today, Alibaba is the largest e-commerce company in the world, with a market capitalization of over $500 billion. We have created millions ofjobs, and we have empowered small businesses to grow and succeed. But our journey was not without challenges. One of the biggest challenges we faced was the skepticism of others. People told us that our dream was impossible, that the Internet was just a fad, and that we would never succeed. But we never let these negative comments discourage us. We believed in our vision, and we were determined to prove them wrong. Here are some key lessons I have learned on my journey:1. Believe in Yourself: Your dreams are your own, and no one can take them away from you. Trust in yourself, and never let others' doubts undermine your confidence.2. Embrace Failure: Failure is not the end; it is a stepping stone to success. Learn from your mistakes, and use them as fuel to propel you forward.3. Stay Passionate: Passion is the driving force behind any successful endeavor. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, it will be difficult to overcome the challenges you face.4. Surround Yourself with Great People: The right team can make all the difference. Find like-minded individuals who share your vision and are committed to achieving it.5. Innovate and Adapt: The world is constantly changing, and you must be willing to adapt. Innovate and find new ways to solve problems.6. Dream Big: Dreaming big is not about being unrealistic; it is about thinking beyond the limits of your current circumstances. Dreams inspire you to push beyond your comfort zone and achieve greatness.Ladies and Gentlemen,As I stand before you today, I am reminded of the words of my mentor, Steve Jobs: "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do."I have always loved what I do. I have loved every challenge, every setback, and every moment of triumph. I have loved building Alibaba, and I have loved helping others to achieve their dreams. To all of you who are dreaming of a better future, I want to say this: Dream big, work hard, and never give up. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you that your dreams are impossible. The world is full of opportunities, and it is up to each and every one of us to seize them. We have the power to change the world, and itstarts with a single dream, a single vision, and the determination to make it a reality.Thank you for listening to my story. I believe that together, we can create a brighter future for all.Godspeed.[Applause]。
