The longest ones were around 500 feet, which is like three or four times longer than a modern cruise ship. They had nine different decks and could carry over 27,000 passengers. Just one single ship was way bigger than the entire fleet of Christopher Columbus when he first sailed to the Americas!With his absolutely ginormous treasure fleet of over 300 ships, Zheng He embarked on an epic seven major ocean voyages between 1405 and 1433. He was the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty and he united China into one big country for the first time ever.Emperor Qin was born in 259 BC. When he was just 13 years old, he became the King of the Qin State. Wow, can you imagine being a king when you're only 13? That's really young! But Emperor Qin was very smart and strong, even as a kid.After he became king, Emperor Qin spent many years fighting wars to defeat the other six states in China. It took a long time, but finally in 221 BC he won and brought all of China under his rule as the first emperor. Yay! No more fighting between states.As emperor, Qin Shi Huang did some really cool things. First, he joined the existing walls from the different states into one giant Great Wall of China to protect against invasions from the north. The Great Wall was super strong and really long - over 5,000 miles! That's like going from New York to California and back again. Wow!Emperor Qin also introduced new words for writing, money, weights, and measures to make them the same across China. This made things easier for everyone. He even built a ton of newroads connecting the different parts of his empire. Cool roads like highways but just for walking or horses and carts.However, Emperor Qin could be pretty mean too. He didn't like when smart scholars disagreed with his ideas. So he had many of them killed or buried alive! That's really not nice at all. He also forced a lot of people to do hard labor like building his giant palace complexes and mausoleum tomb. Thousands may have died from the heavy work.After ruling as emperor for just 11 years, Qin Shi Huang sadly passed away in 210 BC while traveling. His death remained a secret for a little while though! The prime ministers were worried about chaos if people found out, so they pretended the emperor was still alive.When Qin Shi Huang was finally buried, it was in an incredible mausoleum with a massive underground palace. Archaeologists found over 8,000 life-size terracotta warrior statues guarding his tomb! Each warrior was unique with different facial features, hair, outfits and everything. So awesome!There was supposed to be flowing rivers of mercury acting as the ground too. And on the ceiling above his tomb, they recreated the night sky with pearls representing stars.
