surprise 作名词时,有两个重要的短语:to one’s surprise ( 令某人惊讶的是 ) 和 in surprise ( 惊奇地 )。例如: To our surprise, the child was able to work out the problem alone. The two men looked at each other in surprise. surprised和surprising都 是 从 动 词surprise变 来 的 形 容 词,但 其 用 法 区 别 在 于: surprised 是过去分词作形容词用,有被动意味,指人“对……感到惊奇”,其后多接介词 at;surprising 是现在分词作形容词用,有主动意味,指“使人惊奇的”,常指事物。例如: I was surprised at his surprising success. The news was surprising. I was surprised to hear that. 类 似 surprising,surprised 形态的形容词还有:exciting/excited;interesting/ interested;relaxing/relaxed;disappointing/disappointed;embarrassing/ embarrassed 等。
