废塑料随垃圾填埋不仅会占用大量土地，而且被占用的土地长期得不到恢复，影响土地的可持续利用。
进入生活垃圾中的废塑料制品如果将其填埋，200年的时间不降解。
国务院办公厅发出通知，要求各地限制和禁止生产、销售与使用塑料购物袋，并规定自2008年6月1日起所有超市、商场及集贸市场零售商品销售过程中必须实行塑料袋有偿使用制度。
