2019届高考英语(外研版)一轮复习练习必修5 2 Module2知能演练轻松闯关Word版含解析Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·南昌十校模拟)I hate Black Friday sales. It’s often a gathering of people who are there for many different reasons. Some are looking for a deal on that one item for their loved one, or perhaps themselves. Their intentions are completely unrelated to the festive time of the year.It was several years ago when my wife asked me to meet her at the local department store on Black Friday morning. They had advertised a child’s bike that she wanted to purchase for our son. We stood with a very large crowd, waiting for the manager to blow the whistle. After a while the whistle blew. It was like throwing a bucket of small fish into a tank of sharks. I told my wife that if we obtained a bike, fine, but if we did not, I was OK with that too.As the pile of bikes began to gradually decrease in size, I saw my “polite”opportunity to wrap my hands around the corner of one of the boxes. I lifted it up and suddenly felt some mild resistance. I looked up to see one of the largest gentlemen I had ever seen in my life. Frightening was not the word to describe his presence. He wore lots of belts of metal studded leather around both arms and even his neck. Tattoos(文身) were an obvious passion of his.I started to give up the box but he gently pushed it into my direction and back into my hands. He then directed it into my shopping cart. He looked at me, smiled, and said, “Merry Christmas.”My wife and I went to the checkout, paid for the bike and went home. All the way home I was thinking that this moment was by far the best gift I had ever received for Christmas. The kindness of a stranger broke all preconceived notions(预想) I may have had of stereotypes and prejudices.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。

Ⅰ阅读理解AIsabel has turned down two job offers in the past year. The first jobshe considered was the director of HR for a company in Utah. After theinitial interviews, she felt the job fit her except for the location. Still, sheflew west to meet the hiring manager. The hiring manager explained thatIsabel was the top candidate for the job but that, before she continued withthe process, she should better understand the firm’s culture. She directed Isabel to several videos of the company’s CEO, who regularly appeared in front of the company in costume as part of morale-building exercises and expected his senior leaders to do the same.“Even though I was desperate for a job, I knew I couldn’t do that,”Isabel says. She called the company to turn down the job and explained that she didn’t feel there was a cultural fit.A few months later, she had an interview for another job:a director of employee relations at a local university. After several interviews, the hiring manager told her the job was hers if she wanted it. The job had many positives:it provided a low-stress environment, it offered great benefits, and the university was an employeefriendly place. But the job was relatively junior despite the title and Isabel worried it wouldn’t be challenging enough. Finally, she turned it down.“It would be great to have a paycheck and great benefits but I would definitely have trouble sleeping at night,”she says.In both cases, she was frank with the hiring managers about why she wasn’t taking the jobs.“In the past, it felt like dating, and I was worried about hurting people’s feelings,”she says. However, they appreciated her frankness and thanked her for her honesty. She says it was hard to turn down the jobs and it was a risk for her financially but she felt she had to.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了Isabel拒绝两份工作的经历和感想。

Unit 5 The power of nature阅读提速练Ⅰ阅读理解A(2017·浙江卷10月)There are energy savings to be made from all recyclable materials, sometimes huge savings. Recycling plastics and aluminum, for instance, uses only 5% to 10% as much energy as producing new plastic or smelting(提炼) aluminum.Long before most of us even noticed what we now call “the environment,”Buckminster Fuller said, “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be left around because we’ve been ignorant of their value.” To take one example, let’s compare the throwaway economy with a recycling economy as we feed a cat for life.Say your cat weight 5kg and eats one can of food each day. Each empty can of its food weighs 40g. In a throwaway economy, you would throw away 5,475 cans over the cat’s 15year lifetime. That’s 219kg of steel—more than a fifth of a ton and more than 40 times the cat’s weight. In a recycling economy, we would make one set of 100 cans to start with, then replace them over and over again with recycled cans. Since almost 3% of the metal is lost during reprocessing, we’d have to make an extra 10 cans each year. But in all, only 150 cans will be used up over the cat’s lifetime—and we’ll still have 100 left over for the next cat.Instead of using up 219kg of steel, we’ve used only 6kg. And because the process of recycling steel is less polluting than making new steel, we’ve also achieved the following significant savings: in energy use—47% to 74%; in air pollution—85%; in water pollution—35%; in water use—40%.【解题导语】本文首段点明主旨:回收利用可大大节约资源,并引用伟大建筑师富勒的话和养猫喂食的例子肯定循环经济的价值所在。

Ⅰ阅读理解A(2018·合肥高三调研性检测)In our everyday lives we meet situations in which we take many things for granted. We only treasure things when they are gone. This is a sad truth of human nature. One day, I found myself as a witness to a similar situation. One evening, I left work and boarded the train. After entering, I noticed something unusual. The center of the car had a few empty seats while both ends were crowded with people standing. I didn’t pay much attention and sat down on one of the empty seats. I sensed a funny smell. It wasn’t long before I noticed a homeless person sleeping on three seats in front of me. He was bleeding from his nose. Why wasn’t anyone helping him?His clothes were torn and he was giving off a strange smell. Along with the smell, his eyes were dull, watery, and red. Occasionally he scratched himself and people looked at him as if he had committed a crime. As the train stopped at stations and more people came in they covered their noses and faced away from him. All the seats around him were empty.Suddenly, he began to swear at the people around him. A plainclothes police officer who looked like a construction worker took out his certificate and showed it to the homeless man. The officer, not wanting to touch the homeless man, told him his rights and directed him to exit the train. As the officer walked the man out of the train, the homeless man turned around and said “MY HOME!” and started crying.A man doesn’t value thin gs until they are gone. If he didn’t have a home, at least he had freedom. Now he has neither. No one wants to help someone who won’t help himself.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。
