T: S2, can you tell me your favorite language?

S2: I like Chinese best.

T: What about you, S3?

S3: I like English best.

T: Yes. English is widely spoken around the world, but Chinese is spoken by the largest number of people. What do we use languages for? We use them to communicate.

Step 3 Presentation

1. Talk about Picture 1:

T: What are the students doing?

Ss: They’re planti ng trees.

T: Yes, they’re planting trees. Do you know

when to plant trees?

Ss: On March 12th. / In March./In spring.

T: Trees are planted on March 12th.

T: What are they doing?

Ss: They are taking part in the Olympic Games.

T: Do you know when to hold Olympic Games?

Ss: Every four years.

T: Yes. Olympic Games is held every four years

3. Show the table below and discuss it:

T: Is English spoken in Cuba? Can you tell me in which country people speak English? Discuss with your partners carefully. Work in pairs, then ask some pairs to act it out:

T: Is English spoken in Great Britain?

S4: Yes, it is.

T: Good! S5, is English spoken in Japan?

S5: No, it isn’t.…

4. Summarize the sentences with passive voice by students:

Disneyland is enjoyed by millions of people from all over the world.

(1) be + past participle+by

English is widely spoken around the world now.

(2) be + past participle+around
