MTU公司前身，德国Friedrichshafen(弗里的希哈芬)制造过Zeppelin（齐柏林硬式飞艇）发动机，Maybach、Zeppelin（迈巴赫、齐柏林）超级豪华轿车及Maybach引擎等最昂贵的德国工业产品，Friedrichshafen的创办者、天才设计师威廉·迈巴赫在1907年创办Friedrichshafen以前作为Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft(DMG)的技术总监，是第一辆梅赛德斯-奔驰汽车（1901年）的设计者，这是汽车历史上公认的第一辆现代轿车，而凭借于此，威廉·迈巴赫在汽车界也被尊称为“设计之父”。

Friedrichshafen在1960年并入Daimler集团，一个新品牌诞生了：Motoren-und Turbinen-Union Friedrichshafen GmbH(发动机及涡轮机联盟弗里的希哈芬股份有限公司，简称MTU)。

自此，MTU Friedrichshafen工厂，成为了铁路机车引擎，舰船引擎、柴油发电机组引擎的主要制造商。

产品声誉MTU作为陆用、水用和铁路推动系统以及发电设备引擎的供应商，MTU以其领先的技术、高可靠性的产品以及一流的售后服务，在世界范围内享有盛誉。

MTU一向以输出功率大、效率高、体积小并且经久耐用而闻名于世，但以往，偏高的价格也限制了MTU的产品绝大部分只应用在军舰、坦克、核电、运输船、铁路机车等要害领域。

公司当代20世纪90年代MTU凭借其四冲程柴油机全球领先的技术与著名的美国军用柴油机最大的供应商—底特律柴油机公司（detroit diesel company，简称DDC）进行合作，现在MTU已经全资拥有DDC，而detroit diesel 正是以其独特的两冲程机享誉市场达一百多年并长期稳定占有美国军用柴油机75%的份额，两强的技术融合最终导致了新型柴油机的诞生——MTU/DDC2000系列及4000系列柴油发动机。

2000年，MTU与DDC正式合并，至此，MTU公司成为世界上发动机技术最先进，功率范围最大的发动机供应商。

目前世界上绝大部分主战坦克使用的都是MTU系列柴油机，诸如“挑战者”2E，豹2系列。

MTU在中国2010年9月9日MTU公司在大同市的工厂山西北方安特优发动机有限责任公司正式投产。

山西北方安特优发动机有限责任公司是由山西柴油机工业有限责任公司与MTU亚洲私人有限公司共同组建的合资企业，投资总额为2824万欧元。

该公司主要生产核电应急柴油发电机组。

2010年11月，MTU公司，北京在京发布了该企业在中国的发展战略规划。

该企业将把燃油喷射、涡轮增压、电子系统、废气后处理等技术及产品作为未来在中国市场发展的重点。

正德国MTU公司最新推出了1600系列新型发动机,标定功率270～730kW,这使得MTU公司产品系列的低端功率向下延伸。

1600系列主要针对非公路应用领域,例如发电系统、工程机械、农业和林业机械以及轨道车辆。

1600系列是MTU公司制造的最小发动机,可以提供直列6缸和V型8,10,12缸机型产品,排量10.5～21L安特优发动机工程（苏州）有限公司是位于新加坡的MTU亚洲私人有限公司的全资子公司，属于Tognum集团；安特优公司在北京、上海、青岛、大连、深圳和成都设有分支机构。

MTU的总部位于德国弗里的希哈芬。

安特优发动机工程（苏州）有限公司于1996年在苏州工业园区成立。

作为MTU在中国的服务中心，安特优公司有着完善的培训设施及维修车间，为MTU在中国的所有客户提供服务。

为满足在中国进行MTU柴油机组装的需求，安特优公司于2006年3月搬迁至位于苏州工业园区龙运路9号的新厂房。

这个新的发动机生产工厂是MTU在全球的第三个生产基地，主要生产应用于发电机组的MTU2000系列发动机。

新工厂配备有现代化的电脑控制的发动机试验台，环保的喷漆房，装备精良的质量控制部门，以及来自MTU德国的技术专家。

苏州工厂严格按照MTU高水准的生产和质量标准进行柴油机的装配。
