核心素养测评二十二必修5Unit 2The United Kingdom(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解AI started reading Shakespeare when I was nine, after my grandfather, an actor, sent me a copy of Romeo and Juliet. The story and the language attracted me. I found out about Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ)and started volunteering for them when I was about 10. When I was 13, I managed to run a film project with SGCNZ.I’m home-educated and a part-time correspondence student(函授生)as well. We have a drama group made up of quite a few people who are also home-educated. I’ve also joined Wellington Young Actors, a youth theatre company. There are many similarities and differences between being home-educated and attending a five-day programme. I love hearing other students’ reactions when meeting them and share my different ways of experiencing the world with them. While explainingthe way I learn can be a challenge, I love helping people to understand the re isn’t just one way of learning.Being home-educated has offered me the freedom to have an individualized education and to pursue my passions. My education has always been about making those focuses but I do lots of the same things as people who attend five-day programs do. Shakespeare is a great approach to lots of things around English, history and the arts. I think something you learn when you perform is connection. You have to have a connection with your fellow actors, with the audience and with Shakespeare. I learn this from actually being on stage and from taking part in different Shakespeare festival programs.I believe it’s the emotion in Shakespeare that makes it relevant today. You can be reading something that was written 400 years ago and be able to see parts of your life in the work as it shows you how to understand the world and explore a lot of different ideas.【文章大意】这是一篇记叙文。

BBritish people work some of the longest hours in Europe, but are among the least productive. Now some companies are shortening the working week to increase efficiency, health and happiness.Rich Leigh has introduced a four-day week at his PR company. In fact, his entire company has Friday off, because his firm has adopted a four-day week. It is one of a handful of UK businesses that now operate like this: staff still get paid their previous five-day salary, but they work a day less. The company found that they achieved just as much—and there were even sighs of growth. “The key to the scheme’s success, ” Leigh says, “is how happy our employees now are. ”The average British worker takes only a 34-minute lunch break and works 10 hours overtime each week (more often than not this is unpaid). Yet UK productivity falls seriously behind their European neighbors, who tend to work fewer hours.British working practices have caused loss and damage to thenation’s health and happiness. More than half a million workers in the UK were signed off with work-related stress or anxiety last year. Moreover, the work landscape itself is changing. Automation and AI will have a significant impact on the labor market, where unsteady work becomes more common.Britain is the only EU member that allows workers to ignore the EU working time limit and work longer hours. For campaigners, now is the time for a change. O’Grady, an advocate, argues that where businesses have increased their profits as a result of automation, success should be shared with workers in the form of reduced hours. “It’s time to share the benefits from new technology, not allowing those at the top to grab them for themselves. ” she says.【文章大意】这是一篇说明文。

This is the future of air travel according to Japanese company First Airlines, which has used the power of virtual reality to create dream vacations.Passengers avoid the costly airport transfer, the baggage fees or busy airport terminal(航站楼)—and instead enjoy the privileges of business or first-class travel and an expensive tour of Paris—all while remaining motionless in Tokyo. As well as Paris, First Airlines also offers the virtual destinations of New York, Rome and Hawaii. After boarding, guests can settle down for the two-hour flight on their advanced Airbus seat—surrounded by decoration that is modeled on the inside of an aircraft, for maximum realism. There is flight serviceand VR, foods, music for every destination. Passengers will be served a delicious meal by air stewards, alongside drinks and other desserts. The menu depends on the destination of choice—Manhattan clam chowder and cheesecake for New York and salmon tartar and onion soup for Paris. After landing at the destination, guests can enjoy a 360-degree tour of the destination—all thanks to projection(投影)mapping and video. It makes for a supposedly stress-free vacation, perfect for those whose ability to travel abroad is limited by cost or health. Virtual reality is becoming increasingly present everywhere at all times in the world of travel—allowing travelers to appreciate the wonders of the world, all without leaving their house. At just 4, 980 yen($46)for business class and 5, 980 yen($56)for first class—these two-hour flights are far more affordable than their real-life flights. Tokyo citizens eager to experience First Airlines can book a trip on the website, with reservations currently being taken until May 2020. 【文章大意】本文是一篇科普类文章。

Today, Alaa Al Aswany is a best-selling writer across the globe.Aswany was born in Cairo in 1957. His father was also a novelist, who won the state award for literature in 1972. “He was my first professor of literature. He told me what to read and what not to read, ” said Aswany, who had a traditional French education and then went to Chicago to study for his dentistry degree. In 2002, his novel The Yacoubian Building, was quietly accepted by a small, independent publisher in Cairo. Its first edition sold out in four weeks and it was the Arab world’s best-seller for five successive years, selling 250, 000 copies in a region where print runs seldom go beyond 3, 000. Word spread quickly, people talked about it. It was made into a hit film and a TV serial, and has since been translated into27 languages.Aswany said, “Society is a living organism and you must keep up. That’s why I still practise, though for only two days a week. I will never close the clinic (诊所). The clinic is my window. I open it to see what is happening in the street. You can’t get disconnected from the street, as a writer; that’s a common mistake. You can be too easily welcomed every night by the richest people and the most influential. It is very dangerous because it is that relationship with the street that made you succes sful in the first place. ”【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。

核心素养测评二十三必修5Unit 3Life in the future(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解ASlowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the Internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the U. S. top out at an average of 19. 42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds.“5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age, ” said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. “The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It’s pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditionsdown the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基础设施) construction. There’s lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed.Augmented reality glasses and virtual headset haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist—or perhaps even replace—smartphones.Ericsson stated at February’s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on hardware for processing power. But don’t get too excited. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the meantime including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infr astructure construction so 5G isn’t concentrated only in big cities.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。

Shortly after Streng sat down to pose, the piece of ice broke off and floated into the water.“I thought it was safe. One girl had been on it and then two girls at the same time, and it was very secure with them. When I got on it, it started to shake and a wave was coming in. A very large wave came in and made the throne kind of shake, and I could tell that I was slipping off, ” Streng told ABC News.Streng’s story went hot after her 24-year-old granddaughter Catherine tweeted a text message exchange she had with her father about the incident. “My gran dmother almost got lost at sea in Icelandtoday! ”Catherine, who teaches English in Seoul, South Korea, explained via Twitter that her father described the scene vividly. He has a PhD in English, and described the event in the following words, “She climbed to the throne after a wave had pulled back and left it briefly exposed on the beach. Then a wave washed in and removed the ice throne, rocking it from side to side. When the wave left, it lifted the throne and carried her out into the sea with the tide. ”Luckily for the Streng family, Randy, a licensed boat captain from Florida with knowledge of water rescue strategies witnessed the whole thing, and was able to save the day.【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。

核心素养测评二 必修1 Unit 2 English around the world(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解ASign has become a scientific hot button. Only in the past 20 years have specialists in language study realized that sign languages are unique—a speech of the hand. They offer a new way to know how the brain generates and understands language, and throw new light on an old scientific controversy(争议): whether language, complete with grammar, is something that we are born with, or whether it is a learned behavior. The present interest in sign language has roots in the pioneering work of one teacher at Gallaudet University in Washington, D. C. , the world’s only liberal arts university for deaf people. When Bill Stokoe went to Gallaudet to teach English, the school let him teach a course in signing. But Stokoe noticed something strange: among themselves, students signed differently from his classroom teacher. Stokoe had been taught a sort of gestural code, each movement of the hands representing a word in English. At the time, American Sign Language (ASL) was thought to be no more than a form of pidgin English (混杂英语). But Stokoe believed the “hand talk”his students used looked richer. He wondered: Might deaf people actually have a genuine language? And could that language be unlike any other on Earth? It was 1955. Stokoe’s idea was academic heresy (异端邪说). It is 37 years later. Stokoe—now devoting his time to writing and editing books and journals and to producing video materials on ASL and the deaf culture—is having lunch at a cafe near the Gallaudet campus and explaining how he started a revolution. For decades educators fought his idea that sign languages are natural languages like English, French and Japanese. They thought language must be based on speech, the modulation (调节) of sound. But sign language is based on the movement of hands, the modulation of space. “What I said, ” Stokoe explains, “is that language is not mouth stuff—it’s brain stuff. ”1. The study of sign language is thought to be ______.A. a new way to look at the learning of languageB. a challenge to traditional views on the nature of languageC. an approach to make the grammatical structure of a language simpleD. a try to clear misunderstanding about the use of language【解析】选B。
