William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is undoubtedly one of the greatest love stories of all time. This tragedy, set in Verona, Italy, tells the story of two young lovers from feuding families, who can only be together in secret. Despite the fact that the play was written over four hundred years ago, it still resonates strongly with modern audiences. As I read the play for the first time, I couldn't help but be moved by the timeless themes of young love, family loyalty, and the tragic consequences that ultimately result in the death of the two titular characters. At the heart of Romeo and Juliet is the enduring power of love. From the very beginning, the audience is introduced to a passionate and intense romance between the two young lovers. Despite the fact that they come from families that are sworn enemies and that their love is forbidden, Romeo and Juliet cannot help but fall deeply in love with each other. The intensity of their love is palpable throughout the play, and it is what makes it so memorable. However, it's not just their love that captures the audience's attention, but the obstacles they face in trying to be together. From the restrictions of their families' conflicting loyalties to the scheming of outside forces, it seems that Romeo and Juliet are never able to be safe in their love for each other. This builds tension throughout the play and ultimately leads to their tragic deaths. One of the reasons why Romeo and Juliet continues to be so popular is the way in which it explores the idea of tragedy. Theplay's two young protagonists are caught up in a world of family honor and loyalty, and are ultimately destroyed by it. It is impossible not to feel sympathetic toward them as they struggle against a world that seems intent on keeping them apart. The play's ending is truly heart-wrenching, leaving the audience with a deep sense of loss and sadness.Ultimately, Romeo and Juliet is a play that explores many of the themes that continue to be relevant to today's audience. It is a story of young love overcoming all obstacles, but also of the destructive power of violence and hatred. The message of the play is clear - love is a powerful force that has the potential to overcome even the strongest of barriers, but it is ultimately up to individuals to choose a path of peace rather than conflict. In conclusion, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a timeless classic that continues to captivate audiences to this day.

1After reading Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", I was deeply moved and my heart was filled with a myriad of emotions. The story of Romeo and Juliet is a poignant tale of love that defies all odds and boundaries. The love between Romeo and Juliet is so intense and passionate. They brave numerous obstacles and risks, defying their families' enmity, just to be together. Their love is like a wildfire, burning bright and fierce, unyielding in the face of adversity. For instance, when Romeo sneaks into Juliet's garden at night, their exchange of vows under the moonlight is truly touching. It shows their determination and courage to pursue love. However, when comparing this tragic love story to the love in real life, we find significant differences. In modern times, love often seems more pragmatic and less passionate. We tend to consider various factors such as material possessions and social status before committing to a relationship. The pure and selfless love of Romeo and Juliet makes us question the true meaning of love. Is it about convenience and practicality, or is it about sacrificing everything for the one you love?In conclusion, "Romeo and Juliet" has made me realize that true love is not only about happiness and joy, but also about facing difficulties and challenges together. It is a force that can make us brave and strong, but alsoa force that can lead to great tragedy. This story will always remain in my heart, making me ponder the complexity and beauty of love.2The play "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare is a poignant and timeless masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my soul. The story, filled with passion, tragedy, and the unyielding grip of fate, has compelled me to delve deep into the human condition and the forces that shape our destinies. The feud between the Montague and Capulet families serves as a stark reminder of the destructive power of societal divisions. Love, the purest of emotions, was stifled and crushed beneath the weight of this ancestral hatred. Romeo and Juliet's love was like a fragile flower trying to bloom in a barren and hostile land. Their attempts to overcome the barrier of family enmity were heroic yet tragically futile, highlighting the harsh reality that social constraints often trample upon the most beautiful of human connections. The characters' personalities also played a crucial role in determining their fate. Romeo, with his impulsive and passionate nature, rushed headlong into love without considering the consequences. Juliet, though young and innocent, showed remarkable courage and determination in the face of adversity. Their combined naivety and intensity ultimately led them down a path of inevitable doom. This play has made me question the nature of fate and the extent to which we are prisoners of our circumstances. Are we truly free to shape our own destinies, or are we constantly at the mercy of external forces beyond our control? "Romeo and Juliet" has not only entertained me with its captivating narrative but has also provoked profound thoughts about the complex web of life and the often cruel hand of destiny.3After reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, my heart was profoundly shaken. This tragic tale of love has left an indelible mark on my soul. The selfless and great love between Romeo and Juliet is truly astonishing. They were willing to sacrifice everything for each other, defying the strict boundaries set by their feuding families. Romeo risked his life to be with Juliet, and Juliet chose love over societal expectations. Their love was so pure and intense that it knew no bounds. This story has given me a new perspective on love. It has made me realize that true love is not just about the joy and happiness but also about the willingness to face difficulties and make sacrifices. It has taught me that love has the power to overcome even the most insurmountable obstacles. In my own life, I long for a love like that - a love that is deep, passionate, and selfless. I hope to find someone who will stand by methrough thick and thin, just as Romeo and Juliet did for each other. I believe that such a love will bring meaning and fulfillment to my life. The play Romeo and Juliet is not just a story; it is a powerful reminder of the beauty and strength of love. It has touched my heart and will remain in my thoughts for a long time.4The play "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare is a timeless masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on the world of literature. The raw and intense love between Romeo and Juliet defies the boundaries imposed by their feuding families, highlighting the universal theme of love's ability to overcome all obstacles. This play has had a significant influence on subsequent literary works. Many authors have drawn inspiration from its themes and characters, reinterpreting and reinventing the story in various ways. It has set a precedent for depicting passionate and forbidden love, shaping the way such themes are handled in modern literature. Moreover, "Romeo and Juliet" holds a crucial position in literary history.

《罗密欧与朱丽叶》的英文读后感500字《Romeo and Juliet》is a classical tragedy that has been popular for centuries. It tells the story of two young Verona teenagers, Romeo and Juliet, who fall in love with each other despite their families being engaged in a bitter feud. In order to be together, the two lovers ultimately take their own lives out of despair.Reading Romeo and Juliet was an incredibly powerful experience. It is amazing how much emotion can be generated from a text that is hundreds of years old. The idea of two star-crossed lovers struggling against a seemingly insurmountable obstacle (their two families) really resonated with me. The play shows us how powerful love can be, even in tragic circumstances. It also highlights the consequences of hate and bigotry, as the family feud would not have resulted in such a tragic ending if the characters had embraced love instead.I was struck by the timelessness of the piece. Romeo and Juliet could easily be set in any era, yet the themes remain relevant and powerful today. We all have something to learn from this classic. No matter our circumstances, it is imperative that we choose love over hate if we wish to create a better world for ourselves and those around us.The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet serves as a haunting reminder of what can happen when we choose hatred and prejudice over love. Though it is a heartbreaking tale, it is important to remember the strength of love and the importance of positive values. Faced with a difficult choice, Romeo and Juliet chose love, and it is atestament to the power of human connection that drives us to fight for what we believe in.。

1The notes were prepared for use with an edition of Romeo and Juliet bound together with the book for West Side Story and in conjunction with a showing of Franco Zeffirelli"s film version of the play, but they will be useful with any edition or production. The introduction focuses primarily on comparisons with West Side Story, so it has relatively little to say about the play as such. As noted, this is often regarded as a lesser Shakespeare tragedy by scholars, but what should also be kept in mind is that audiences have made it one of the most beloved plays of all time from the Elizabethan Age to the present. Romeo and Juliet are often considered the archetypal lovers, and at one time a romeo--meaning a lover--was a common noun. Several operas and ballets have been based on the story. The play also contains some of Shakespeare"s most-quoted lines, and some of the most beautiful.Although Shakespeare"s dialogue often reads beautifully enough on the page, please keep in mind that he never intended his words to be read. This is a script for performance, and our study of it will prepare us for a version of the real thing: the film version directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Like all productions, it is an interpretation, leaving some things out, putting others in, placing emphases differently than other productions. Your goal in thisassignment should be to familiarize (or refamiliarize) yourself with exactly what Shakespeare wrote so that you can observe what it is Zeffirelli has done with it.Shakespeare wrote almost no original plots. He used an English poetic retelling of an old Italian tale: Arthur Brooke"s The Tragicall History of Romeus and Juliet. Despite its Italian setting, the language, attitudes, and customs are generally English. In one respect, Shakespeare altered the story in a way which is shocking to modern audiences: he lowered Juliet"s age from sixteen to just under fourteen. There are several reasons he might have done so. Boys played the female roles in Shakespeare"s theater, and they might have been more convincing as young girls than as more mature women (though audiences presumably found a boy playing Cleopatra or Lady Macbeth satisfactory)。

Shakespeare shows his dramatic skill freely in Romeo and Juliet, providing intense moments of shift between comedy and tragedy. Before Mercutio's death in Act three, the play is largely a comedy. After his accidental demise, the play suddenly becomes very serious and takes on more of a tragic tone. Still, the fact that Romeo is banished, rather than executed, offers a hope that things will work out. When Friar Lawrence offers Juliet a plan to reunite her with Romeo the audience still has a reason to believe that all will end well. They are in a "breathless state of suspense" by the opening of the last scene in the tomb: If Romeo is delayed long enough for the Friar to arrive, he and Juliet may yet be saved. This only makes it all the more tragic when everything falls apart in the end.
Shakespeare also uses subplots to offer a clearer view of the actions of the main characters, and provide an axis around which the main plot turns. For example, when the play begins, Romeo is in love with Rosaline, who has refused all of his
advances. Romeo's infatuation with her stands in obvious contrast to his later love for Juliet. This provides a comparison through which the audience can see the seriousness of Romeo and Juliet's love and marriage. Paris' love for Juliet also sets up a contrast between Juliet's feelings for him and her feelings for Romeo. The formal language she uses around Paris, as well as the way she talks about him to her Nurse, show that her feelings clearly lie with Romeo. Beyond this, the sub-plot of the Montague-Capulet feud overarches the whole play, providing an atmosphere of hate that is the main contributor to the play's tragic end.
Shakespeare uses a large variety of poetic forms throughout the play. He begins with a 14-line prologue in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet, spoken by a Chorus. Most of Romeo and Juliet is, however, written in blank verse, and much of it in strict iambic pentameter, with less rhythmic variation than in most of Shakespeare's later plays. In choosing forms, Shakespeare matches the poetry to the character who uses it. Friar Lawrence, for example, uses sermon and sententiae forms, and the Nurse uses a unique blank verse form that closely matches colloquial speech. Each of these forms is also moulded and matched to the emotion of the scene the
character occupies. For example, when Romeo talks about Rosaline earlier in the play, he uses the Petrarchan sonnet form. Petrarchan sonnets were often used by men at the time to exaggerate the beauty of women who were impossible for them to attain, as in Romeo's situation with Rosaline. This sonnet form is also used by Lady Capulet to describe Count Paris to Juliet as a handsome man. When Romeo and Juliet meet, the poetic form changes from the Petrarchan (which was becoming archaic in Shakespeare's day)to a then more contemporary sonnet form, using "pilgrims" and "saints" as metaphors. Finally, when the two meet on the balcony, Romeo attempts to use the sonnet form to pledge his love, but Juliet breaks it by saying "Dost thou love me?" By doing this, she searches for true expression, rather than a poetic exaggeration of their love. Juliet uses monosyllabic words with Romeo, but uses formal language with Paris. Other forms in the play include an epithalamium by Juliet, a rhapsody in Mercutio's Queen Mab speech, and an elegy by Paris. Shakespeare saves his prose style most often for the common people in the play, though at times for other characters, such as Mercutio.
