在过去很长的一段时间，山村一直都是默默无闻。
到了近年，由于该村拥有了一处目前潮州市保持得最好的原始森林而开始“名声在外”。
许多山外的旅游者更是被原始森林神秘的色彩所吸引，纷纷不辞辛劳，来此游览观光。
这里有林面积近5000亩，密林面积近2000亩，其中鹤顶山方圆500亩的密林属原始森林，从未开采砍伐过。
林中还有成片的古树林400亩，其中一棵犁树已近700年，胸围达6.5米。
因为生态环境十分理想，密林中鸟兽种类也相当丰富，斑鸠、鹧鸪、山鸡、彩雀、画眉、野兔等野生动物屡屡可见。
