而目前中国室内设计专业的相关人员主要是从艺术设计、平面设计等职业转行而来，大多数设计师没有经过室内设计系统专业的教育和培训，而造成了设计水平和装修质量等诸多问题。
市场的高需求造就了室内设计这个朝阳产业，在未来二、三十年就将处于高速上升阶段。
美国的室内设计一直处于国际领先地位，越来越多的学生开始申请美国的室内设计专业硕士课程，能够学到国外更为先进的设计理念，在毕业后回国发展将会有更大的发展空间。

作品集：除此之外，学校会要求申请者递交作品集（Portfolio），内容包括素描、油画、动画、网页、室内设计作品或可展现艺术天分和室内设计的创作，一般是10-20份，并且为每一个作品写上一段说明的文字。
作品集要用彩色打印，不要用黑白，对于实际的设计图纸不要使用PS编辑。
除了纸质的作品集以外，还有CD和自己作品主页的链接的方式。
大部分学校要求CD盘片中不带任何驱动程序，而网页链接可以作为纸质或CD作品集中提到的内容。
